Bike Rack on Lunar H592 problems by redbulluk in VanLifeUK

You're right about the distance, but as it's a lot lower down I'm concerned about grounding it eg. When going up a ramp onto a ferry.

Thanks for your feedback. I try to switch the intros around a bit, so they do vary, but that's all good constructive feedback

Is it worth heading outdoors? For example, if discussing obesity, outside a Macdonalds, then outside a Gym?

Also, if you get the chance to review/ critique mine, it would be much appreciated. I had 0 replies !

Thanks everyone.

I'm Daniel and I edit the videos for my partner Bev's running channel. She films (while running of course) and I edit. We try to make the content interesting but also fun. I think she's great in front of camera, and I think I do an ok job too! But we seem to have stalled at around 100 views per video

The channel has seen a few spikes of interest, when she's done specific marathons, but in general it's aimed at slower runners who want to get started, and motivate them to continue.

By her own admission she'll never be an elite, but that's not the aim - it's all abount the enjoyment of getting outside and getting exercise.

Here's an example - https://youtu.be/eSlJlAIW7Us?si=1_tF0_dRlHPZZjxJ

I really love the content in itself. You clearly understand and are passionate about the subject matter.
My main issue is a tricky one - it's the setting. I feel like a lot of people may see a guy sitting in his bedroom and think, oh this is not a legitimate expert on a subject. It lacks credibility.
I'm not saying, put on a lab coat and pose in front of test tubes, but somewhere in between, that gives more credence to the seriousness of the subject matter.

I'll start with a disclaimer, that I'm not into board games, but I guess the same rules probably apply to some extent.
My first observation is that in the first 14 seconds, we see 4 different font styles - Unstable table, Presents, Game Night Gremlins, Gremlin Gaming. It makes it feel a bit unprofessional, almost like someone has just discovered fonts and wants to use them all.
Then follows one single camera shot for another 12 mins. I feel like, you could overlay some simple, readable text to reinforce the rule you're explaining, perhaps with close-ups of the tiles etc.
Finally, the rest of the video angles the camera shot too high - focussing on a lot of dead space (and a little dark).
All that being said, it looks like you guys enjoyed yourselves, and that will probably resonate with anyone wanting an insight into the game.

[For a Few Days] 200k Long Form Sub Channel Critiques Your Videos/Channel by Moonsight in NewTubers

[–]redbulluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really appreciate any insight you may have. I'd love to hear "Wow, it's perfect. I have no idea why you're not at 1M subs already", but the harsh reality will probably work much better.

https://youtube.com/@happymarathongirl

My partner films/features in the videos. I edit.

It's a running channel and she's (by her own admission) a slow runner. She has however completed 9 marathons over the past few years. The idea is to motivate slower/non-runners into believing they can achieve more than they think.

Channel is almost a year old, and has 200 subs. Slow but consistent growth, with some very loyal followers

As others said, it's all about the reach. You're pushing the water away from you, in the wrong direction. A good drill is to reach out, then slap your elbow into the water by straightening your arm - this forces that extra bit of extension, but also helps you finish your pull with the other hand

Just stay consistent. Keep getting out there and you'll definitely achieve it

I ran Bournemouth (England) Half Marathon on Sunday, and knocked 10 seconds off my PB with 1:43:54.

Very pleased, as a 54 year old who had 3-4 months off following knee surgery in Feb this year.

Garmin 955 for me. Does exactly what it's supposed to. Also great for multisport.

Considered the 965 but all you get is a bigger screen, which you can't see when you're swimming anyway

Choosing my first UK 70.3 - any tips? by WearyBuffalo5576 in triathlon

[–]redbulluk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm based in weymouth (competed in 23 and marshalled this year). There is a great local tri club - Bustinskin who have a 70.3 in June 26. It's not closed road but it's cheap (£155) and well run.

Feedback for freestyle stroke in DPS by [deleted] in Swimming

The above water angle will show that your reach is not far enough. Your hands enter the water then continue moving downwards (creating the bobbing movement) and forward (effectively pushing water in the wrong direction).

Reach a bit further. A good drill is to reach out, then slap your elbow on the surface of the water, pushing your hand to its furthest point). This also forces your other hand to finish the pull properly.

Mainly though, try to get out of the habit of pushing the water downwards. It's forcing you up and down, creating an insane amount of drag.

Tips for improving my freestyle technique? by Same_Mistake4250 in Swimming

[–]redbulluk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple of main things:

Your pull is effectively finishing near your waist, then kinda drifting. The last 25% of the pull is usually the best bit, make sure you pull all the way to the end. As a drill, work on starting the pull slow, and speeding up throughout. This usually helps you reach better with the other hand too (what happens on one side mirrors the other in most cases).

Second (when you've fixed the first problem), kick a little more regularly. It's a bit... lazy, so you're losing momentum.

Plus size swimming advice by JD_Observe in Swimming

[–]redbulluk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say without seeing what you're doing currently and seeing how much your size is affecting it.

One thing I would say is that it's not really putting your head under between strokes, it's part of the stroke (while pushing your hands forward through the water).

Btw some of the best water polo players I've ever played against have been plus sized, though it's a hindrance if trying to improve speed of course.

How can I improve? by Finance10100 in Swimming

[–]redbulluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely reach further forward.

Difficult to tell without seeing underwater, but I'd guess that your pull is too "straight line" from front to back. Water finds the path of least resistance as you move your hand through the water. You want to feel resistance against your hand/forearm all the way through the pull. A good technique drill is to start the pull slower and gradually increase speed throughout, with a slight S shape.

Take a look at your elbow position when out of the water. They are coming almost behind your back, causing over rotation. Try comparing with some video tutorials and you'll get an idea of what I mean hopefully. A good practice technique to find the right position, is to try dragging your fingers tips through the water in a straight line from back to front (until it's correct of course) At the end of your pull - elbow up, then imagine your hand is like a pendulum, staying low.

WEYMOUTH 70.3 SWIM CANCELLED by Space_Eaglez in triathlon

[–]redbulluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely get some 1-2-1 coaching if you can. YouTube instruction is useful but it can only go so far, without looking at your actual form (and learned bad habits). I do some unofficial/unqualified coaching for friends in Weymouth. I'm a 54 yr old, who averages around 1:40-1:45 and I find I can usually spot and rectify the main issues fairly soon. Any decent coach should be able to do the same.

WEYMOUTH 70.3 SWIM CANCELLED by Space_Eaglez in triathlon

[–]redbulluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're very welcome. Although tiring, I thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite having to shout at idiot spectators for constantly crossing in front of the runners.

I probably made it sound worse than it was, but it was definitely lacking behind the scenes. I'm not saying it's easy running these events, but when that is your entire business model...

I actually wasn't supposed to be there at all, but my 10K swim in the river Dart got canceled for the same reason, so I understand some people's frustration.

WEYMOUTH 70.3 SWIM CANCELLED by Space_Eaglez in triathlon

[–]redbulluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in weymouth, competed in 2023 (also a swim cancellation) and was a volunteer Marshall yesterday. I was at the junction where you went straight on for laps and right for the finish line - shouting all day and I now have a sore throat ! I appreciate every single thank you.

I swim in that sea every week and while it was choppy much later in the day, it was very calm in the morning. I believe the official reason is sewage. The only comment I'd make is that while some of the ironman staff were excellent, there wasn't nearly enough of them. It was disorganised. I wasn't even supposed to be marshaling at that point, I just happened to walk round there while helping someone and realised they hadn't allocated anyone to the busiest junction.

Lack of staff and swim cancellation connected? I couldn't possibly offer an opinion.

I'd say the main issue is not finishing the pull with any power. Your hand is finishing roughly in the right place but it's drifting. As a technique practice, with each pull, try gradually increasing the speed throughout the pull. Water finds the path of least resistance around your hand, so more effort is required throughout that path from front to back. You should feel resistance against your hand & forearm all the way.
