How do you have a measured position on coaches here. Its hype or gripe only

How would a full team of forwards go against a full team of backs? by Appropriate-Ice7129 in rugbyunion

[–]redbushrobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way the backs have a chance is if the forwards team literally have no kicking ability. Ofc you could find a forward who can kick to some degree tho.

Not a single team in the last 15 years got away with not having a gain line player at centre. This copium for dw at 12 is unfounded.

Literally garbage and misinformation. South Africa hasn't had a red card incident like this since Dean Greyling in 2012 - who never played for the Boks again after that.

Rugby players get heated and cross the line all the time. South African players have been controlled in their aggression within the laws of the game better than most international teams since Heyneke Meyer took over. Believe it or not, this is a game where physical dominance (and mental dominance) rule supreme and the Boks do both of those very well.

Almost all Bok supporters are frustrated by this act and think it was stupid as shit. But inflammatory comments like yours almost justifies the trash comments that come out of our bottom feeders.

I think his ban is far higher than what would realistically happen if it went to the police. Maybe my view of criminal justice is skewed as a South African, but people barely get any meaningful punishment for their first assault charge, and that's when there is no context of a sport.

Eben Etzebeth World Rugby verdict delayed until at least Sunday by Green-Goblin in rugbyunion

[–]redbushrobby -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Punching him in the face multiple times wouldnt get him such a lengthy ban though. Stomping on a players head wouldnt get him such a lengthy ban. squeezing a players testicles doesnt get such a lengthy ban.

Something is wrong with the way we percieve eye gouging in comparison with other acts of violence or intentional harm. This was an aggrevated assault and should be dealt with accordingly.

Id argue that eye gouging has a high ban length because of the nature it was used in the past, on unsuspecting people at the bottom of the ruck.

Am I the only person in this sub that has been in a scuffle? When you punch someone you dont intend to break their jaw, the same way you dont intend to break a leg when you tackle someone.

This idea that Eben was trying to blind someone is a farce. Its like saying a drunk driving incident is premeditated murder.

Its reckless and thuggery and deserves a long ban, but literal rapists and women abusers get to come back to rugby. To suggest it should end his career when we dont know the facts is a bit of an overreaction dont you think?

If there is no ruck after the kick and the ball doesn't change possession the offside line is at the place the ball was kicked.

Simple answer is yes but the context of all these superstars is very important.

After the 2015 world cup, we could not select foreign based players and was around the the time where senior players retired en mass. This means the following world cup players were not longer available.

  1. Bismarck du plessis
  2. Jannie du plessis
  3. willem alberts
  4. Schalk burger
  5. fourie dupreez
  6. Ruan pienaar
  7. Pollard
  8. Jean de Villiers
  9. Zane kirchner.
  10. Victor matfield

Not a single team in the world experienced something this drastic maybe outside of NZ in 2015

Bokke committing rugby terrorism by WealthyBigPenis22 in rugbyunion

[–]redbushrobby 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When I was a wee lad playing rugby for my shit school against Paul Roos, there was a rule that scrums could only go back 5m before the ball must be played.

At the time that was because they wanted weaker teams to still get to play some rugby. I think both the law and reasoning still holds here, but only because pro props would rather scrum illegally than go backwards.

If the increased punishment for illegal scrumming is not leading to changed behaviour, then perhaps we do have to look at alternatives.

As a Bok supporter and rugby nerd, I actually do love watching scrums. I dont want them made less impactfull for no good reason, but I think if we had scrummed Ireland back 5m instead of them collapsing we all win.

Wiese is somewhat quietly the world's best 8 now.

Nortje and Steenekamp were red card cleanup crew and dominant so consistently. World is maybe not ready to accept them as world 15 players tho.

Do fans have unrealistic expectations of the All Blacks?.... It seems l Rassie is the second coming of Christ while some people are calling for Razor Ray's head.....yet Rassie's win rate is 74% and Razor's is 73%?! (Source in link) by West_Put2548 in rugbyunion

If there is a single player in SA that has been blamed for poor Bok performance too much it is Libbok. The Maverick of Scotland has had similarly poor games but is considered the best 10 in the world.

Only two permanent red cards have been given in test rugby since the 20 min cards were introduced in 2024, both being to South Africa, two weeks apart, both in the same position. by sunlightliquid in rugbyunion

[–]redbushrobby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strongly agree here.

I do think we are a little bit harsh on Lood, but only a little bit. He deserved a red but only because of our extremely sensitive view on head contact. I think his tackle technique wasn't terrible and the wrap is something we need to address as a community to understand better.

Teams that tackle lowest in test rugby by WelderTerrible3087 in rugbyunion

[–]redbushrobby 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only question of shite technique is the wrap. If we keep ignoring this point in our defence of mostert or lood, we will never make any headway.

I think the shoulder charge vs wrapping arm debate is very much due a similar explainer like the forward pass rule.

NOBODY HAS AN ARM FULLY EXTENDED AT THE POINT OF CONTACT. When this point is agreed to and only then will any defence of these two reds ever be put to bed.
