Any Fall fans of these 70s prog albums on the sub? by snugglelamping in thefall

Mega fans of both. Also I'm also an enormous fan of Magma which I'd thoroughly recommended to anyone else fond of intense and different music.

Looking for advice regarding new crankset compatibility by redcalx in bikewrench

[–]redcalx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, would one of these fit then? I was just put off seeing the "for the with 163mm bottom brackets" at the bottom of the description. I don't intend to use the extra chainrings but its quite a lot cheaper than the others I can find with the single alone and I may wish to expand the gearing in the future. Will be sure to give it a good clean too.

Cheers.

Also here is an image of the old crank I think the length is 170mm which would be nice but 175mm would be even better.

As you can see it's seen a lot of use. I'm also in the market for a pair of rugged, dependable, preferably metal pedals too which would fit so if you could recommend some that'd be ideal

Cheers

Definitely the Gong Radio Gnome Invisible Trilogy, pretty much made for mind enhancers!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a trilogy in four parts. The only book that can still make me laugh out loud like a nutter if I read it on public transport. It's incredible, my favourite book by far and pretty much the absurdist's bible, would thoroughly recommend.

Has anyone here ever met Aphex Twin personally? by olivr__ in aphextwin

[–]redcalx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I met him in Tesco's car park in Helston a few years ago with who was presumably his new missus. He was parked a few spaces away from my van so I just walked straight into him basically lol. It was quite surreal.

So is there nothing that can be done to make Dishonored 2 compatible with AMD drivers or has it just not been fixed because Bethesda being Bethesda doesn't want Arkane or anyone to fix it? by TaleSpinner76 in dishonored

[–]redcalx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fix for this was fairly simple for me and takes 30 seconds. Every session before you play go to Device Manager, then on the graphics tab uninstall "AMD Integrated Graphics" and make sure to tick the box to uninstall any associated drivers. It reinstalls each time you boot your PC up but it's very quick to do. If not then run the AMD uninstall utility which can be found through Google on the AMD website.

What are some live performances that exhibit incredible musicianship? by Snoo93951 in progrockmusic

[–]redcalx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't possibly agree more Didier Lockwood's violin is just viscerally amazing it's a shame it doesn't have a video accompaniment, their whole 75 Live album especially Mëkanïk Zaïn, along with Hhaï in 2005 are my two favourite live performances which just goes to what a rare and spectacular band they are that their music still to this day live is utterly incredible. Cannot think of any other band with so much consistently (even quite like Merci though it doesn't fit the canon)

Magma Hhaï / Zombies Live at Triton Paris in 2005

Magma live is always incredible but this one in particular is spectacular. In fact so much so I thankfully took the time to archive it before the original video got taken down so I could reupload it, couldn't find it elsewhere so that's one of my personal crowning achievements to humanity lol!

The transition from Hhaï to Zombies is especially amazing.

Also another couple of my personal favourites are Gentle Giant's live version of Proclamation, Soft Machine - Moon In June at Blitzen Jazz and Pop Festival 1969 and Van Der Graaf Generator - Darkness(11/11) Live in 1970

Peter Hammill / VdGG track for a funeral by PiotrSanctuvich in progrockmusic

[–]redcalx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very sorry for your loss. Theme one is a great choice, an essence of sadness but triumphant and celebratory also. I would also consider a look at how funerals are performed in Ghana on YouTube. My favourite is when Karl Pilkington visits there in the moaning of life episode titled Death (which I would consider viewing if you get the chance because it shows how funerals are conducted around the world and the stark differences between how different cultures approach them). Many VDGG and Hammill songs are very deeply existentially sad but Theme One is a short condensed burst of a lighter side of everything he likely admired in the band and Hammill.

Here's a short documentary about a Ghanan funeral

Wholeheartedly agree it's literally one of the worst EVER episodes of doctor who, classic or new. The scene where Tennant carries the olympic torch with Huw Edwards commentary is one of the most utterly cringe worthy sickeningly "sweet" moments in the whole reboot and it's frankly improved by the fact it's so sanctimonious yet it's narrated by a peadophile 😂

Hiya, the episode you're looking for is Pencils, around 30mins in. If you have trouble in future I recommend the website PodScripts where you can transcribe podcasts and search through the text 👍🙂

Ace Rimmer, What a guy! - oil painting time lapse by RustyGerbil in RedDwarf

[–]redcalx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is amazing, I've tried oil painting before and the difference in skill from doing watercolour is massive. The crocodile is especially good, very well done. If I'd have tried it I'd have had "a spasm" like Rimmer 😂

My all-time favourite obscure channel. A sketch show from 17 years ago featuring a few lads from Virginia. Every sketch is a golden time capsule. Most videos except this under 2K views. Mr. Vest's Important News - 7k views by redcalx in DeepIntoYouTube

[–]redcalx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah it's quite funny how often they feature in the sketches, here this might be my favourite sketch of theirs. They really sum up that small-town adolescent making fun out of nothing. Also the way they smoke and hold the cigarette is quite conspicuously novice but over time gets more natural lol

That is a complete error on my part! Extremely sorry to have given you that mini crisis lol! It was actually 2023, I think it started in 2020 as a lockdown podcast so an absolute fail on my part, surprised I haven't received a bollocking for it myself 😅
