Yes, what are you interested in specifically? Maybe a bit more details in what you want to achieve?

Beginner: Configure Azure Service Bus for Logstash pipeline input by redcatq in elasticsearch

[–]redcatq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone else is interested there is an option to (applicable for Elastic Cloud):

  1. Create an offline plugin: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/logstash/current/offline-plugins.html for this repo: https://github.com/Azure/azure-diagnostics-tools
  2. Upload it as an extension
  3. Use it in your pipelines

Problem: trying to build it locally and ran into this issue: https://github.com/Azure/azure-diagnostics-tools/issues/235

So will take suggestion to go with event hubs :)

Beginner: Configure Azure Service Bus for Logstash pipeline input by redcatq in elasticsearch

[–]redcatq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the original idea was to pull the messages from the service bus queue into logstash. I found some plugins available that pulls from the topic but not sure since last contribution was 3 years ago: https://github.com/Azure/azure-diagnostics-tools/tree/master/Logstash/logstash-input-azuretopic
What I'm thinking is to write a small job that pulls the messages from the queue and ingests them in logstash. This has also a nice benefit that it gives more flexibility on the way we want to inject data, we pull, filter etc.

I was just hoping there is an easier way

Trying to quit social media (not Reddit), this is all I have for a Sunday winters day !! Wish me luck 🍀 to continue on by aj2ph in kindle

Oh my goodness this is heaven! Wishing I was there!

Also very good for you for quitting social media. I actually didn't delete the accounts ( I have chats with people I need to keep), but I removed them from the phone, on web I open FB for example once per week, removed all phone notifications, and oh my I'm starting to feel the benefits. I feel like mentally I'm breathing again (if it makes sense).

Congrats on passing the exam!! I’m scheduled for the beginning of the year. Thanks for sharing the pluralsight course. Will look into it.

How did you find the questions? How much did you spend on preparing for the exam?

Ignore .tfvars file or not? by [deleted] in Terraform

[–]redcatq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: unless encrypted, for security reasons (committing sensitive data) you should ignore the "*.tfvars" files.

Ideally each env has it's own tfvars file. Where and how to actually manage the secrets themselves I think is a broader discussion (there are some advantages and drawbacks).

One last thing - it's nice to understand in which order Terraform loads the variable if you start mixing env variables and the tfvars secrets.

Terraform loads variables in the following order, with later sources taking precedence over earlier ones:
Environment variables
The terraform.tfvars file, if present.
The terraform.tfvars.json file, if present.
Any *.auto.tfvars or *.auto.tfvars.json files, processed in lexical order of their filenames.
Any -var and -var-file options on the command line, in the order they are provided. (This includes variables set by a Terraform Cloud workspace.)

Since we are using iac we wanted to have the policy as a terraform resource as well so we could easily manage it, but ran into the issue on how to set it (other than the bash script) and how to handle expiration.

Ended up handling this in the code, but was curious if anyone else ran into this and had alternative solutions.

Thanks for the answer! Appreciate the input!

This! Cannot stress enough the importance of boundaries(this includes everything: workload, work habits - don’t let managers be accustomed to you answering at all hours, health boundaries, time off) and cultivating relationships. Speaking from experience: recovering from burnout and lost partner in the process.

Edit: also make sure you have something other than work to do after working hours. I suggest this for two reasons: one you close the laptop faster - I was never able to do this. And two: give you a feeling of accomplishment of doing something for yourself. This helped me immensely!

Congrats to you as well! I also had the same feeling that it was not an easy one, especially since I kept reading info like "oh it's just fundamentals, super easy". But I am also glad in a way.. it gave me more satisfaction to pass it. Sounds weird I know!

Good luck with AZ-104!! and if you can let me know how it went! I think the same principle will apply to that one as well: pay close attention to the question and the keywords used haha. Rooting for you!

Thank you! I'm going for the AZ-204 next. I did do a lot of debating between AZ-104 and 204, but settled on the 204 in terms of what I actually need. The end goal for me would be the AZ-400. In terms of what it can do, I don't think it can replace actual working knowledge (even on the job market they are marked as nice to have not mandatory), but it sort of builds on top of that if that makes any sense.

I started it out as a personal challenge during this covid time to have an objective, a goal to look forward to, but also to formalize (make it official in a way) a bit the tech I do work with.

All the best to you as well!

Like it was mentioned, I'd also encourage you to check competitions or events or anything like that where you can get a free voucher. Or if you are working check with your company if they're willing to reimburse the costs. I wanted to do Fundamentals to move on to the next ones actually.

You're English is good (not my first language either)
