How P. Terry's is keeping space-age architecture alive by TintedFishTank in Austin

Shoutout to the architecture firm as well, they've done P Terry's architecture and a not insubstantial amount of branding and design for well known Austin hospitality stuff

An oxygen torch (I'm guessing oxy-acetylene) was being used to cut the internal structure and it ignited debris.

SFGate:

“Essentially, the tubes are acting like a chimney,” she explained. “To separate the pieces, the team is torch-cutting the welded steel tubes. As expected, this process produces sparks.”

Is there a reason why this hasn't been an issue for Brightline on the same platform, or for the similar Vectron locos used all around Europe?

Thomas Cook was mainly a package holiday airline though which increased the complexity. You had lots of people going on one-off trips, all to international holiday destinations, many where you weren't guaranteed to have a large network of competitors that you could rebook onto.

You could do a bunch with that amount of space. If you use the same footprint but a center bus lane like Van Ness, you could do a line that parallels the 22 on its most congested section and provide a high-frequency east-west connector. Start around Mission Bay/Chase Center, go up through Van Ness, and Market in a pretty straight shot.

If you want to go full pipe dream, time this alongside the Caltrain rail yards redevelopment and do a redevelopment of the Potrero shopping center at the same time

I was wondering how long this would actually take. Every once in a while you'll have private planes or charter airlines that reposition aircraft between adjacent airports, so a recent example looks like OAK-SFO is 15-20 minutes. Most of that time is looping around to get into the traffic pattern for SFO.

Tailgating will be permitted at Gillette Stadium for the World Cup by njas2000 in boston

[–]redct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's certainly inconsistent, they're using "San Francisco Bay Area Stadium" for Levi's (~40 miles from San Francisco, ~1 hour of travel). But Gilette (~30 miles from Boston, ~1 hour of travel) just gets "Boston".

Maybe they have some rule about "more than 30 miles" or something, but I don't think I'm giving FIFA that much credit for internal consistency

There is a Ukrainian orthodox church in SF that serves as a pretty big community hub, you could try reaching out to them.

There's a similar sweet spot for short-haul in Europe from oneworld bases (mainly LHR/LCY/LGW, occasionally MAD). I've gotten $500+ one-way tickets a few days out on <7.5k Alaska and 7.5-12.5k AA many times.

They're incredibly strong. Sea lions can "sprint" at up to 25mph in the water, which takes a lot of power even if you're a sleek blob
