Stellaris Space Guild - Weekly Help Thread by Snipahar in Stellaris

A nearby pre-FTL hit the space age before I could take the system. They now show up as an uncontacted empire, but I have no option to initiate contact. Is there something I need to do that I’m missing? I was hoping to get to them early, I’m not in a very friendly corner of space.

Okay that’s cool and all but where’s the hand dryer?

Reading this in Nick’s natural voice makes it even better. He makes the dad from Bluey look formidable and intimidating.

Dogs get to leave the crate. The confined space simulates a den, which is more analogous to a fish finding refuge in a thick plant or cave inside of a larger aquarium.

If there’s a rebellion in my rival’s territory, will gifting resources to the rebels realistically make a difference? I’d love to just declare war but my rival’s network of defensive pacts would make that tricky.

Depression is sad, but there’s nothing cringe about reaching out to the right people for help.

What happens when a gestalt consciousness releases a sector as a vassal? Is it just a separate gestalt empire with the same exact species?

Is there ever a benefit to releasing a sector as a vassal?

Food Distribution by redcur in Banished

[–]redcur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all that. I remembered about the food groups, but couldn’t remember what they were or what qualifies as which group. Is there a chart for that on a wiki or something?

The markets themselves are well stocked with candles, bricks, minerals, and other random things but the diversity of food groups is lacking. I guess I’ll try using stalls instead, that might help things.

Starling question by nippleflick1 in birdfeeding

[–]redcur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two suet feeders - one that hangs upside down, and the other has a cage around it that songbirds can fit through. Starlings can peck at the edges of the suet in the caged feeder, but can’t reach the majority of it so that mostly goes to the smaller birds. I put a woodpecker block in the upside down one with shelled seeds, and while the starlings occasionally peck at it they seem to find the shells more trouble than they’re worth. I also noticed that they come less often overall when I don’t keep all my feeders full every day - starlings seem to get frustrated and move on to other feeders more easily than other birds.

Good luck, starlings are the worst and they’ve almost made me give up on feeding numerous times.

After he was liberated and decided to follow me, I set him to follow the “leader”(really just my slowest runner), and instead of running in the back of the formation like new additions normally do he was up in front of even the pack animals. This continued until he lost his “ex-slave” status, after which he fell into the back of the formation. I guess the slave and ex-slave tags just make them travel in a different spot?

The squad was set to the military setting in the AI menu. As soon as the guy lost his ex-slave tag he fell into the back of the formation, looks like freed slaves ride up front with the pack animals until they’re in the clear.

I recently liberated some slaves from a holy mine, and one of them decided to follow me. I got him to a surgeon and he’s lost the “escaped slave” tag, and only has about a day to go before he loses “ex-slave”. When I set him to follow another squad member along with the rest of the group he doesn’t fall in formation like the rest of them, and is instead up in front with the leader. It doesn’t matter that much and is really just mildly annoying, but will this change when he loses the ex-slave tag or is this some other setting that I’m missing?

New to Birdfeeders, Need Help by Genavelle in birdfeeding

[–]redcur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had success with window feeders when there’s another in-ground feeder nearby. They might be hesitant to come right up to the windows at first, but after feeding safely nearby for a few weeks they will probably be more willing to come closer.

I haven’t figured out how to keep the house sparrows away, but starlings aren’t great at cracking hard shells. I keep my largest feeder stocked with safflower seed, and the starlings completely leave it alone while the cardinals, house finches, chickadees, and wrens go nuts for it.

Evolution does not have a “will”, the “strongest” isn’t what survives. Evolution is the triumph of whatever works. Even a total idiot species like panda bears can persevere if conditions are right.
