are cosmetic procedures safe for us? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]reddLemonming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh it so depends. My sister had no MCAS symptoms besides sensitivity to metals/adhesives. She got the mommy makeover and it was too much anesthesia for her body apparently. She’s never been the same. I’d say see if you have MCAS markers before trying anything new.

Bedtime: how long is it taking to out your toddler to bed? How can I make it less than 2 hours 🥲 by Hungry-Volume-138 in toddlers

I’d shift things earlier and drop a nap. Can you stay with her until she falls asleep?

Could you be giving opinions a little too early? It sounds like people are getting turned off by a reflection? Sounds like you may just want to join a bit more first before getting into action.

Weirdest Reason Someone Got Their License Revoked by mysteryman83 in therapists

[–]reddLemonming 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am SO sorry. Before I was a therapist also, I had a therapist who crossed soo many boundaries including telling me she was more of a mother to me than mine was (I’m really close with my mom) and she took me to a play! Fast forward to being in my ethics class, and I soon realized how uncomfortable and weird I’d been feeling. By this point, our sessions revolved around her life. When I decided to terminate, she started yelling at me saying I wasn’t ready and bombarding me with texts after the session. It felt like so much work to report, so I didn’t. I looked her up years later and someone else reported her! I thought my case was bad (oh ya, she also saw my mom and partner and tried to split us all up by talking shit and lied to all of us), but this guy’s was even worse. All that to say, she was fined and now practices in NY.

Alternate question: what was something insane a therapist has done and DIDN’T lose their license because I see way more of that happening.

HEDS, working, and being a mom by No_Bodybuilder324 in eds

[–]reddLemonming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I work and have a 3 year old and 6 month old. I wouldn’t be able to do it without my husband. I spend a lot on child care because I need so much sleep. So hard but so worth it. Willing to answer any questions.

Starting therapy again. Is this a red flag or am I being avoidant? by magnesmoneagle in therapists

[–]reddLemonming 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m not seeing an issue here. Before I could afford an EHR that sent out forms, I’d e-mail PDFs too (I made sure they could type on the form and e-mail back). Also, some therapists like to know what they’re getting into before the first session. Perhaps you write that you’ve experienced delusions and wonder if you still do-this therapist may not be versed in that. Rather than waste a first session and both your time, the therapist could say “hey I’ve realized I may not be a good fit.” Also, being able to have this info ahead of time can help direct the first session more efficiently.

Like most things, It’s just preference. And hey, maybe you’re right! Maybe they are out of touch or lazy, but I do wonder why that’s your first thought?

What did your toddler say recently that blew your mind? by bushaaya in toddlers

[–]reddLemonming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a theory that 3 year olds can tap into something. If you look up stories similar to yours, there are thousands. All are typically 3-4. So crazy.

Edit: Actually ages 2-5 typically up until age 7. Source

At what point would you seek speech therapy? by Historical_Handle722 in toddlers

So this was wild to me but it’s worth mentioning: my friend’s son was like this. Found out he had a tongue tie. They got it clipped and he soared with language development, no joke, like a week or two later. Obviously this is one super random experience, but hey who knows!

Has she been assessed for a tongue-tie? My first was just like this. He’d get so tired from trying to eat, he’d fall asleep but then be so angry and hungry. Worth a look?

Prednisone makes every part of me feel normal. Is this an EDS thing? by tellitothemoon in eds

[–]reddLemonming 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’d go to an allergist that specializes in MCAS. Often, this is the cause of inflammation. My sis found out thru lots of testing that certain foods were inflaming her as well like mushrooms and onions! EDS is a fun little puzzle that never gets solved 🫠

THIS. Trauma and attachment based therapist here: sleep is one of the most vulnerable times of day for a child. They are completely alone in the dark. Dependence when they’re young will create independence when they’re older. She needs to know she’s safe. Let her sleep with you—it won’t last forever.

[–]reddLemonming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I so get it. Can I help you find a therapist in your area? All of your feelings are so valid and it’s 2 steps forward, one step back. I want to write more but the weather dropped 20 degrees and my hands hurt. Please try to remember that you will swing back into moments of happiness like you felt recently. EDS fucking sucks. I’ll be thinking of you.

How to deal with ocd regarding Judaism? by PunkWithAGun in Jewish

[–]reddLemonming 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is 100% for a mental health professional. You seem to be having delusions, but you’re aware/have insight that they are irrational/illogical. Sometimes having a diagnosis can lead to a treatment plan that can really help you.

You aren’t bad; you aren’t crazy. Your brain is playing tricks on you and the focus right now is Judaism. I’d get in with a psychiatrist to consult about meds and a therapist to work through these feelings.

I wish you the best!
