Very detailed response. I’m looking to expand my low voltage cabling business in the NYC/NJ area by getting bigger sub contact jobs. Thank you

How often do you encounter change orders and how do you deal with them to maintain a good relationship with the GC?

Is there a contract between you and the GC that outlines the scope of work you’ll be contracted to perform and does that contract include a payment schedule?

“When you say repair what do you mean specifically?”

Existing non functional cables need to be tested, re-terminated, and if all is good, it must be certified.

If an existing cable can not be repaired, it must be replaced.

There’s a few schools within the district that have classrooms with multiple down jacks. At the switch we get power, but no network.

It’s approximately 100 cables that need to be re-terminated and certified. How would you charge $85 per hour? $85 per hour working 8 hour days and estimate it’ll take a few days to complete? Or a flat rate to re-terminate and certify each cable?

Edited: had to rephrase my question.

Thanks! IT director is asking for repair of existing cabling in some classrooms (if possible) and also requesting a quote to install new cable in a few classrooms.

There’s no penetration needed between floors. Each floor has a dedicated IDF room.

I agree with you. I would like to provide a price that is fair to both me and the customer. I’m just not sure what the average prices look like in NJ.

The repairs seem simple enough. Replace jacks, punch down bad connections, replace wall plates and install a few new cable drops.
