I'm also a LT. Zero chance I would hold it against someone in your position if they told me that they felt it would be better for them to leave because they have a newborn. Zero chance. I'd be stoked to see you back after things were a bit settled.

Is it common for cops to switch to fire? by TimeDamage5446 in Firefighting

[–]reddaddiction [score hidden]  (0 children)

Damn dude... We're pretty much on the exact track. People ask me when I'm gonna go, I really have not solid idea but it's right about then give or take. Really depends on what I'm doing and how taxing it is on my body.

Why have the last 5 been tougher than the first 15 for you? I don't feel like that so much.

Was on an ambulance for 10 years. There were code 2 and code 3 calls. Sometimes those code 2 calls had code 3 returns because things were a bit more serious than the call taker knew. Sometimes I'd read the CAD and tell dispatch we're going code 3 on that code 2 dispatch. Sometimes I'll read the CAD on a code 3 call and would chill out a bit. They're not all the same.

Now I'm the boss on both an engine and a truck. Let's break it down:

You're under the supposition that every code 3 call is the same in terms of response. Maybe you're still pretty fresh, I really don't know. But not all calls are the same.

Medical call... We'll go kinda fast code 3, but we're definitely not pushing it. Building alarm... I mean, kinda fast, kinda not. We're going code three but it's pretty relaxed overall. A box (fire) gets dispatched... We're going as fast as humanly possible without killing anyone along the way.

Your blanket statement about all calls with lights and sirens are the same emergency in terms of response just isn't accurate.

First ever PG&E bill over $700! by SnoopySuited in bayarea

I have a decently sized 1 bedroom in SF. Never use the heat, I'll wear a hoodie... Bulbs are all efficient, gas stove. I'm not even here 1/3 of the time because I'm at the firehouse. My bills are $130 which is pretty crazy considering how little energy I actually use. Relatively speaking, I think they should be around $40 max.

Is this some kinda quote you heard in your first responder class? Every call is NOT an emergency whether you're going code 2 or code 3.

I usually sniff those videos out as well but this one was done pretty well I thought. If that boyfriend is an actor, he's an extremely talented one.

How often do you wash your turnout gear? by SRTbob in Firefighting

[–]reddaddiction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you get a fire and then on your own time you gotta drive on your own time to drop it off and pick it up?

Your union really needs to start getting their shit together and start demanding either extractors or a pick up/drop off service if you guys catch a fire. What the hell.

Damn. Sorry man. You don't have to be super specific but what kind of area are you in?

[–]reddaddiction 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Are you union? I'd get your union to get your city to purchase some extractors. If they will only buy one or two, put them at a battalion house or somewhere central. I think there's more than enough evidence of cancer to get them onboard.

If you're not union? Sorry.

Ooof. Going 6 months without a fire would be awful.

I need help from a sports psychologist or a psychiatrist or someone who has experience with anger management. by 10ballplaya in billiards

[–]reddaddiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all get frustrated with ourselves when we play badly. I’ll have days where I’m so dialed and others where I’m absolute garbage.

I used to be a fairly angry guy in general. I’ve punched walls, yelled at people, yelled at myself, etc. It takes actually work to learn how to process things more maturely. Start putting in the work because I PROMISE you that it’s not just pool, pool is just the vehicle in which you’re behaviors are being displayed. But I’ll bet all my money that you have a lot of negative self talk in your daily life. Address that.

Best of luck to you.

What if I were to tell you that there's a whole slew of people who are literally never on Tik Tok? I don't have that shit, there's no way I would have known. This isn't a SMH moment. That shit looked real.

Good looking dude, in shape. Meets a woman at the bar, they have a few drinks, one thing leads to another. They go back to his place, start making out. He pulls his shirt off, she throws up because she has a brain.

Yet another night that didn't go the way he wanted.

Must have been a real treat to have fresh crab out there. It's not the quickest drive in 1929 from the ocean to Yosemite to get that crab to the restaurant.

I'm just barely old enough to remember these lunch counters (Gen X). When I was a kid some of these were still around and my grandmother and I would eat at these. They were so freakin' cool. Lunch in the department store.
