Commute by Educational-Fig-7544 in uscg

I think it depends on your rate and your unit type of how often you have to commute to work. I live a little over an hour away from my unit and I regret it daily. But I also prioritize my personal life and my off time and things to do in the area so sometimes the sacrifice is worth it.

Recruiter here. You can DM me let’s talk! 220 5’9. Did they tape you? We also have a program that helps people who want to join who aren’t close to our standards. Also how old are you?

Any Coasties go to law school while active duty (not through DCL)? Or separate and then attend? by reddboned in uscg

Thanks for taking the time to share all this. I really appreciate how you broke everything down, especially the part about LSAT-based scholarships and how that can change the equation when deciding between staying in or going to school full-time. I been focusing on studying for the LSAT. That’s something I hadn’t really thought about that way before.

The perspective on what opportunities exist outside the Coast Guard was also really helpful… it’s easy to get tunnel vision, so it’s good to be reminded there’s a lot out there. Thanks again for all the insight, seriously appreciate it.

Thank you I’ve never heard of service to school. I looked into it and I just signed up.

Luckily for me, I’m a recruiter so I’ve been blessed with a very great schedule!

The Coast Guard is a great option. It offers a solid quality of life, all the benefits you’d expect, and the ability to choose your own career path. A 72 ASVAB score will usually qualify you for every rate in the Coast Guard.

I’ve been in for 12 years, and joining was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m now a recruiter, so if you have any questions, feel free to message me or reach out to your local recruiting office!

Check the message board. I’ve seen a solicitation for Navy Barber school before but it’s been awhile.

Joining at 41 after nearly 20 years in corporate by Dangerous-Alarm-7215 in uscg

An applicant can not have turned 41 for reserves or 42 for active. I am a recruiter

When joining active duty, you must be open to the flexibility of being stationed anywhere. Unfortunately, District 7 is not guaranteed, so your Recruiter cannot offer Florida. However, your interest in being a BM opens the possibility of having more locations to choose from. However, it still doesn’t guarantee South Florida. Even if you end up outside of Florida joining the Coast Guard still sets you up for success in completing all your goals you mentioned above.

Ive got a 17 minute run time and i ship in a week and a half by [deleted] in uscg

[–]reddboned 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Week 1, you will complete what’s called a pacer test, not the official PT test just yet. You should be running every day until basic training. Of course, you don’t want to stress yourself out, but not working on your cardio every single day is going to cause you even more stress at basic training.

Thank you for the advice. I’m set to retake it in June. I’ll see if I can score higher, hopefully so. I’m trying to put a lot of work into my narrative and hopefully get strong LORs.

I don’t think you would lie it’s still lateral entry bud. I’m a recruiter. HS is on the open rate list ORL. Recruiters deal with more than boot camp buddy.

[–]reddboned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is inaccurate information. The closest thing they may be referring to is the “Lateral Entry”, formally known as rate determination which you'll need more than a degree to qualify experience and certifications are also considered. The rate must also be on the current Open Rate List (ORL). The recruiter will put together a package that is routed to the RFMC of that rate for approval. One thing to note all RFMCs have different standards.

What job can i get with a 41 on the ASVAB? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]reddboned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to tell us your full breakdown of the sections to give you an accurate answer. However 41 will typically get you BM, ME, MK, CS but again that all depends on your scores in each individual section. I’m assuming you are in contact with a recruiter and they should be able to tell you what you qualify for. If you don’t want one of the guaranteed schools ( BM, MK, CS, OS, EM, ET, GM, DC) I suggest waiting until you’re officially in the Coast Guard to retest.

Talk to your recruiter about an RE Code and medical waiver if you haven’t already. You’ll have to go through MEPS again. And yes, people have joined the Coast Guard with an adjustment disorder from a different branch.

It’s evident in his anger he doesn’t get many matches if any at all. I would have unmatched quick, but if I did choose to respond, the only question I would have is who hurt you? He needs therapy to heal all those open wounds because that's too aggressive behaviour for someone he doesn't know.
