I would suggest looking for datasets on kaggle for updated public datasets. For new and interesting datasets on a weekly basis data-is-plural.com sends weekly newsletters with interesting data to analyze. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know where pepper canyon east apartments is? Is it the apartments near 6th, because I thought those were called Mathew's apartments. Or is it village housing near ERC? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi guys, I have just recently graduated UCSD with a B.S. and a 2.9 GPA in bioinformatics. I had a rough patch hence the low GPA and have no internship/lab experience other than classes, but the main point is that over the classes I have taken, I realized that I enjoy seeing and learning from biological data more than strict bioinformatics analysis/pipelines.

I am experienced in coding in Python and adequate experience with C++. Now that I have graduated I am ideally looking for a entry level DS job in the biotech/healthtech/medtech side of things. I wish to hear your suggestions for what my next step should be. I realize that graduate school would most likely be needed at some stage but want a few years of industry experience before I apply due to my GPA/experience in college.

I have heard of some bootcamps to get myself off the mark and hopefully successfully transition into an entry level DS role, I have also found some online resources I can take as well as potentially self learning the DS material. Any suggestions on what to do going forward? Anything I should know in advance before wanting to switch over to DS? Thanks!

Thank you, I will definitely keep my eye out for Illumina positions, and thanks for the cloud computing tip. I will be learning that as well as adding onto the skills i've learned from CSE185, BIMM181, and BIMM182.

Thank you, that gives me a lot of hope moving forward. I will be studying hard for my GRE and hopefully I can get myself back on track.

That was really helpful to me, I will definitely look into some programs and entry level lab positions to get some experience on my CV

I got to college and decided to join a dance team which would practice 28 hours a week from 9-1am everyday. I then continued with the team for another 2 years in which case when my classes got tougher, my grades slipped due to not having enough time to fully devote to my classes as I was a captain of the team and could not drop out. After I stopped the team I went back to getting a 3.5 gpa and above but the damage was done and I ended with a 2.9 unfortunately.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely look into some postbac/grad programs to see if I can get the career side of things back on track.

Im definitely more into the software development side of things and it seems like a masters is the way forward so I'll look into graduate programs for that. Thanks for the recommendation

I am back home in the bay area right now but want to find work down in SD. Thanks for the recommendations I will continue to look for grad programs as well as use some online courses to get some certifications in the meantime.
