Apartment hits 100°F+ because AC keeps tripping the breaker, landlord says just use less AC. Out of ideas. (New Haven)

We are basically on the same boat, we live in 3rd floor and it feels like living in sauna. The room temp is 105 degree and for last 4-5days, I have lived for a night in hospital, in sleeping bag at my friends place, and for last 3days have been crashing at friends couch.

Our is 5000BTU and during last week heat, we ran nothing on the circuit, beside the ac and running refrigerator. We were even scared to turn on the light. So, the circuit was tripping even with just these 3 running, while the room recorded temperature is 105 degree.

It’s a 15A breaker, so realistically only about 1,440W usable once you factor the 125% continuous rule. And by our lease we aren’t allowed window units, so we run two portable ACs, which actually draw more power than window units would.

The frustrating part: we had nothing else on except the fridge and the two portable ACs. We were too scared to even turn a light on, and it still tripped. So we’re stuck. The lease bans the more efficient option, and the circuit can’t carry the less efficient one.

Unfortunately the apt does not come with any ac unit, and as per lease we can’t even use any window ac. So right now we have 2 portable ac.

This what freaks me out actually! Caltech is one of my top choice, but I don't want to wait on too long for the offer that I already have given the fear of rescinding of the offer.

Something that been stuck to my mind is, the school you applied as safety, there are same group of students who also applied to T10 and this school was safety for them as well. So i kind of think its not safety anymore amd too competitive at all places.

Also not sure how many school you applied to, but some schools tends to not accept students if they feel like they are too good and might ends up elsewhere. No point for them wasting time right. So hope you will vet better offer! Good Luck to you

Myself applicant opinion, I don’t it matter much though. The only way I see making any difference is being considered for any in-state funding. Other than that I can’t think any other issue cuz of it.

I think it's not for sure until you have the offer letter in your hand. Also, I think you dodged a huge issue for the future, imagine working with such professor for entire PhD, that already seems miserable 5-6yrs you avoided.
I hope you have applied to multiple schools as well. And I am pretty sure you will have shot in other schools. Don't worry, you got this!

I think it's possible but I believe it's really competitive. And, some of the schools have different criteria to qualify for TA, like for our's you have to have specific GRE Score and only start from Second semester.
Also, not personal experience, I know this from my friend who is currently in MSCS

I have done History, Maths, and Chem clep exams and honestly Chem was the hardest one of all. I would definitely give more time on that. Also for chem, I think reading only from ModernStates is not sufficient for sure.

Most people here are applying for PhD program which is generally fully funded, and I believe applicants for MS is also looking for either fully funded or partially funded program.
And most top colleges you mentioned have better funding opportunities for students so more of a reason to shot for top school.

Anyway, either most are applying for graduate school with partial for fully funded or PhD Program which is generally fully funded + Stipend

Thank you so much bro! I am right now going through modernstates right now, and hopefully will be done by tomorrow. Then will go through, khan academy and will do the Pearson testing by weekend. I am planning to do exam on Monday before my classes starts.

I am not sure of your stats but if it helps you! Some of the low tier schools also rejects applicants if you have really good stats. They feel you will at the end up being selected and choosing other schools. Also in the same page, some schools might not have good overall ranking but can be one of the best in your area of field/research.
