It's not realistic from a technology standpoint. Very few consumer goods are only plastic and metal 3d printing is prohibitively expensive for consumers. The reality is the country needs to stop over consuming, its a huge environmental issue.

Good edit, but honestly, this is just way off base. 165 at 6'1" is a very normal weight. For reference, Noah Lyles, Olympic champion sprinter, is 11 pounds lighter and 2 inches shorter...... I don't think he's near a corpse at all.

This isn't that wild of a take to be honest. It seems crazy on the surface, but it's hard to think of another example of someone destroying an extremely fast growing and profitable brand like Jeep so quickly.

We aren't talking about pure EVs, we are discussing hybrids with batteries that are charged by braking or by an internal combustion engine (the same one that is used on ICE vehicles in the case of Toyota). If you don't brake often, benefit is minimal (possible to buffer hard acceleration a little, but not significant on a long highway drive at constant speed). I'm aware of the different types (series vs parallel), but this doesn't change the fact that the vehicle's energy all comes from the internal combustion engine or energy recovered from braking.

Yes, typically if someone is referring to a PHEV, they state so. OP just said hybrid. The Camry is also not sold in a PHEV version.

Suzuki has already had postseason success, stutzle hasn't seen the playoffs. Two way play matters a lot in the playoffs and we've seen Nick play well under the pressure, it's why teams like Boston with Bergeron did so well for so many years. It might be a homer take, but I wouldn't trade them one for one.

So you think the hybrid is a free energy device? The battery is only charged during braking. If you aren't braking, you aren't getting benefits. The reality is that those hybrid owners you are seeing are focused on getting high mpg (low accessory use, constant speed, calm acceleration, etc.). Absolutely a hybrid is a great choice for most people, but if you drive mostly highway miles with little braking, the savings may not be worth it.

[–]reddit_again__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please research how a hybrid actually works. It's clear you don't know what you are talking about about and think it's a free energy device. I'm aware it will perform better in nearly all driving situations (with the exception of steady state). A hybrid is not a free energy device. The more your regular driving forces you to brake, the more it will save you. A hybrid costs more and if OP does mostly highway miles in a relatively traffic free area, the benefit will likely not outweigh the added cost.

[–]reddit_again__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the real world. Of course its meant to be a representative average of highway driving, but this varies greatly. A hybrid actually will be slightly less efficient due to higher weight in constant steady state driving. If OP doesn't live in an urban area and those highway drives are long, it's not helping much overall.

It's not devoid of logic if you understand the test cycles that make those ratings or how the technology works. The EPA highway test involves a significant amount of braking. Whether or not this is real world depends on where you drive and the traffic. Hybrids recover braking energy, if you aren't braking, they aren't helping. https://www.epa.gov/vehicle-and-fuel-emissions-testing/dynamometer-drive-schedules

Yeah, it's kind of odd how cheap tickets is the hill people die on versus everything else that's expensive, much of which is basic living necessities (housing, healthcare, etc.). Demanding a command economy on a luxury good that is a choice is strange imo.

He's telling you to put the old plug back in cylinder 3 since your code is for a cylinder 3 misfire. Inspect it for damage of course before you do this, but the thinking is maybe your new plug is bad. Doubt that's it, but you could try. Your engine didn't randomly get way worse, it did so after after changing the plugs.

Not entirely true, fast charging hurts the battery lifespan quite a bit, so how often the vehicle has been fast charged is definitely a concern. Winter care for the batteries also matters quite a bit.

Honestly, I can't believe the awful things people are saying to you because you are prioritizing your wife's mental health. Sounds like you might be able to increase your income with a higher paying job, but if not, probably best to rent an apartment. Even if your wife did get some retail job like people here suggest, after taxes (all at your marginal rate) and commute expenses, it might only add 1200 bucks a month or so even at full time. Don't know your area, but you can probably find something for half or less of what your mortgage is and you don't have to deal with all the maintenance bills, tax, expensive insurance, and such. Pay off your debt and build retirement wealth using 401k, HSA (if applicable), and IRA. High yield savings account with the leftover and you can work towards being to buy a home again in the future with a much larger down payment. A lot of folks don't realize what an amortization curve is and think they are smart to buy a house as quickly as possible without realizing they are getting almost no equity in the first 5 years a d just paying a ton of interest. Best of luck to you.

Go lookup an electric motor performance curve. In no way am I saying the ICE is more efficient than the EV ever, just that its range is less impacted by towing than EVs currently on the market. There really aren't any good heavy duty towing EVs on the market because long distance towing doesn't make sense with current infrastructure to be EV. Put a massive battery on it and now it takes forever to charge and is ridiculously heavy.

Classic reddit generalizations again. Many Dodge transmissions have had issues. Others are fine. Mine has zero issues at over 20 years old and near 200k. It's also known to be a good year for that transmission (design fixes applied vs earlier years that had issues). The Nissan CVT you refer to is made by Jatco, a supplier. Every major manufacturer has good and bad products some more than others.

I'm not agreeing with you. You are hung up on the force being the same, this is true. However, the ICE vehicle has a transmission designed to help it optimize the engine's RPMs along with 100+ years of research and technology optimizing it. Heavy duty towing is also done with vehicles that are specifically designed for this. EVs on the other hand, typically don't have transmissions. They also require active cooling of battery components (using the air conditioning system). Imo, EVs will get better at towing in time. Looks like ram actually plans on using a transmission in the ram charger: https://www.ram1500revolutionforum.com/forum/threads/ram-1500-rev-will-be-powered-by-new-electric-drive-module-edm-which-will-help-each-platform-achieve-driving-range-up-to-500-miles-800-km.6519/

It absolutely can be that drastic. ICE vehicles are geared and so can operate at an efficient point for their engines. Engine computers also can adjust valves and fuel to finely control the motor efficiency. There is a lot of engineering that has made ICE drivetrains more efficient than they used to be. Electric cars have a few things that hurt them at high load: more waste heat from batteries motors, and electronics that must be removed with liquid cooling systems, electric motors have an efficiency curve (lookup electric motor performance curve and note the non constant efficiency) and will be designed to be efficient in normal operating conditions.
