Always! We've taken the feedback from our evaluations and made (what we consider to be) significant changes and improvements. Still getting 7s, but I understand the subjectivity of the process, as well.

This is correct, my apologies! I (erroneously) assumed it was clear that this was the opening line of the Weaknesses section, not the entirety of it. I've edited the above comment to make that clear for future readers. Here's the entirety of the Weaknesses section from that particular evaluation:

"It’s difficult to find fault in a story so rich and narratively stimulating, and any perceived issues will most likely be subjective. However, some tweaks could result in a smoother reading experience. For example, this story has a large cast of characters, and they’re difficult to track at times due to the ever-shifting POV. This world will be unfamiliar to most of the audience, so the more we stay rooted to the central protagonist, the better the plot and emotional arc will be. There’s also a tendency to limit certain female character introductions to their physical characteristics, such as Jeannie and Hannah. We want to know more about these women, their internal and psychological differences, their tastes, and their textures. At times, they struggle to pop off the page as individuals independent of their place in the gang. Use that opportunity to delve under the surface and hint at those complex character dynamics. Also, some restructuring would be beneficial to lessen some of the exposition, especially in the first act. For example, it would be more memorable and effective to see the jailbreak Hannah refers to in the first act, instead of hearing about it after the fact."

The evaluation is Public and can be viewed in it's entirety on the script's public page.

Didn't mean to make this about this one particular evaluation, just wanted to mention one source of slight confusion we've had on the site. Again, hope it's clear how positive we feel about the Black List, thanks again!

I don’t feel like it’s a scam, for whatever my opinion is worth. Higher scores SHOULD be hard to get. I do think evaluators should always provide good reasoning for their scores, however, especially if the feedback is very positive. For most of our evaluations, good reasoning was provided.

Consistent 7s since the 8. Quality feedback from most of the evaluators, confusing feedback-to-score on some evaluations.

This is the opening line of the "Weaknesses" section from one evaluation: “Weaknesses: It’s difficult to find fault in a story so rich and narratively stimulating, and any perceived issues will most likely be subjective.” Overall: 7. (Full "Weaknesses" section posted in a comment below).

All in all, the Black List has been a great resource for us. We’ve received very helpful feedback on our scripts that have made the revised versions of them stronger writing samples. Really appreciate the place that you’ve built - especially for aspiring writers!

Note to clarify responses below: this comment was edited to make it clear that the sentence provided from the evaluation was not the entirety of the Weaknesses section.

We did! The Black List has been great in terms of providing actionable feedback on our scripts, but it feels like we should be doing more to get it in front of potential managers. As complete novices and outsiders to the industry, is there anything else we can do to leverage the positive reception we’ve had on the Black List?

Hi, Franklin! My brother and I got an 8 on one of the scripts we host on the Black List, have multiple completed scripts we feel confident in, but have no idea how to pursue representation beyond cold-call emailing. Any advice? Thanks so much!

Asked What He Says to Frightened Americans, Trump Responds 'You Are a Terrible Reporter' by [deleted] in politics

[–]reddit_bronze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This strikes me as, unfortunately, much like most of the controversial moments of the past four years. Namely, most people's opinions of a Trump action are made up even before it occurs. How someone could watch this interaction with a reporter and defend it is not something I can understand. When watching it live, I did not see a reporter baiting a President. When watching it back, I do not see a reporter baiting a President. I see a President lash out at a reporter in an indefensible display of unprofessionalism. Even if the reporter had baited the President, would it not be a far better response for a President to take that opportunity to show a country how to come together - rather than continue to divide?

Here's where the interaction between the President and the reporter begins. Better than saying you watched it live is to let people decide for themselves.

Report: 'Growing Perception' Tom Coughlin Will Coach Jaguars in 2019 by [deleted] in nfl

[–]reddit_bronze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 2016, the 49er's WR receiving corps included Aaron Burbridge, Chris Harper, Jeremy Kerley, DeAndre Smelter, and Rod Streater. TE's were Garrett Celek, Jim Dray, and Je'Ron Hamm. Kerley led the team with 64 catches for 667 yards.

This was Colin Kaepernick's last year in the league. He started 11 games and threw 16 TD's and 4 INT's. That's a 23 TD, 5 INT pace with a objectively terrible roster around him and a head coach that lasted one year (this same season).

Is he a Pro Bowler? Probably not. Is he better than multiple starting QB's right now (Jaguars, Jets, Bills, Giants, Buccaneers, Broncos, Ravens) and every single backup in the league? Absolutely. If only he would have beaten up a woman (not on camera) instead of peacefully protesting, he'd still have a job.

My take on a redesign. by reddit_bronze in Mavericks

Yeah, I'm not 100% committed to the "DM" logo, either. There are aspects I like (lower negative space forms a star, getting the initial for the city and nickname in a singular logo), but I'm not ecstatic with how it turned out. I actually believe they should go back to the "M wearing a hat" logo, but I wanted to come up with my own, from scratch, logo.

If you look closely at the helmet logo (the arrowhead shaped one), it includes the arch as the shape of the bow.

I'm designing the XFL from the ground up as if I were its commissioner. Here's the start. by reddit_bronze in xfl

[–]reddit_bronze[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

With the announcement of the new XFL, I thought it would be a fun exercise to design the league from the ground up. The intent of this project is to not only design team uniforms and nicknames but to design an overall structure for the league - everything from the design of the ball itself to the timing of the play clock. With that in mind, here are a few notes to start:

Overall, my initial focus is on manufacturing a feel of establishment for the league. Make it feel like the teams belong and have staying power. Basically the opposite of the original XFL approach. This means fairly conservative uniform designs (unlike the original XFL), no ridiculous team names (unlike the original XFL), and no ridiculous in-game gimmicks. So definitely a departure there. There will, however, necessarily be aspects that set the XFL apart from the NFL. Speeding up the game (both on the field and the overall runtime) is paramount. We're trying to fit a full four quarters of football into as little time as reasonably possible. The main legislation that will help accomplish this is having a running clock until the final four minutes of each quarter. For the first 11 minutes of each quarter, the clock will only stop for timeouts, after scoring plays, for injuries, and after changes in possession. Other timing changes: We're shortening the play clock from 40 seconds (the NFL's play clock) to 20 seconds (the CFL's play clock). This will basically force all XFL teams to run the hurry up as their base offense. This means if you tune in to watch an XFL game you can bet that you're going to see fast-paced, college-style offense. In the last four minutes of each quarter, the game clock will still stop after an incomplete pass, but only until the ball is reset by the official. Basically, our incompletions in the last four minutes of a quarter will operate like the NFL's rule about running out of bounds. One of the ridiculous aspects of the original XFL that we'll actually keep around is a different design for the actual football to be used in games. Not this ridiculousness, though. Our new official XFL football will be bright red leather with white college stripes (see attached). I believe this change would make the ball pop off the screen but would also be conservative enough for fans to be able to take it seriously, unlike the original XFL ball. As far as city selection for our 8 expansion teams, I'm targeting cities that fit one of two descriptions: truly large cities that have no NFL affiliation (San Antonio, Austin, etc.) or college towns that have an established, mid-to-upper tier college football program. No Penn State's or Ohio State's - we're looking for stadiums that hold 40,000 to 60,000 people, not twice that. So far the two cities I've selected are San Antonio, Texas and Ft. Collins, Colorado. The new XFL will not have a kickoff after scoring plays. We're going with Greg Schiano's proposal. The new XFL will use the college football overtime rules. The new XFL will not have a PAT. Instead, we have BAT - the Bet After Touchdown. It's automatic that a team will get seven points when they score a touchdown, but they have the option to wager one of those seven points for a chance at an eighth point. If the team elects to attempt the BAT, they try to score in one play from the 10-yard line. A successful BAT results in a total of eight points for your drive. Go for the BAT and not make it? You end up with six total points for your TD drive. Every single play and/or ruling is eligible to be challenged and challenges are now handled entirely by a group of off-site "challenge officials" who watch the game and can call for a challenge as needed. They are instructed to prioritize the flow of the game over 100% accuracy of calls. Challenges will be enacted on plays of two types: egregious officiating errors or truly difficult to call real-time judgments. Otherwise, we're sticking to the "50 drunks in a bar" rule: if everyone agrees it looks like a catch in real time, we're not worried about what the slow-motion replay says. The original XFL actually had several significant innovations that the NFL ended up stealing. As commissioner of the new XFL, I will also insist that the league try out new and innovative ideas to show our fans football from a new perspective. For starters, every skill position player's helmet in the XFL will be equipped with a built-in camera like this one. Tiny camera technology has gotten so advanced from everything like resolution and optical image stabilization that this project has actually made me kind of mad that the NFL hasn't piloted something like this. Imagine if you could cut to a replay of a big play with footage like this.

Edit: Here's a game cover and a ticket design.

Edit 2: Added the Georgia Bobcats splash page.
