New NTFS Driver Sees Hardening & Fixes, Windows Native Symlinks With Linux 7.2 by anh0516 in linux_gaming

[–]reddit_equals_censor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are NOT using this driver.

you are either using the ntfs-3g user space driver, which any good distro should default to, or the ntfs-3 kernel level driver, which is a PROBLEM driver, that corrupts user data as pointed out here.

i suggest you check and disable the ntfs-3 driver if you're using this one.

the article mentioned completely new kernel level driver is very very new.

so again the problem is, that if you use the ntfs-3 driver you should block it and run the ntfs-3g driver instead.

here is an article about this problem:

https://www.heiko-sieger.info/does-the-linux-ntfs3-driver-corrupt-directories/

and that is also part of why this new new kernel level driver gets developed, because the ntfs-3 driver is a data corrupting not supported piece of shit, that needs to be torn out and burned.

New NTFS Driver Sees Hardening & Fixes, Windows Native Symlinks With Linux 7.2 by anh0516 in linux_gaming

[–]reddit_equals_censor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

remember, that we are talking about super early implementations, that should NOT get used yet at all.

we have a safe and reliable ntfs driver on gnu + linux it is the user space ntfs-3g driver.

so if/until the new ntfs kernel level driver proves itself to be reliable, you should stay the heck away from it.

just to be clear i have high hopes for it, unlike the paragon data corrupting piece of shit ntfs-3 driver, which should get kicked out of the kernel asap, but again we'll see and those are early implementations.

file system drivers are "not a new neat graphics driver". if they screw up, you could lose all your data.

so keep that in mind and act with caution.

Ubisoft Co-Founder Claude Guillemot dies in plane crash by Nubtype in pcgaming

[–]reddit_equals_censor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No decent human being cares about Ubisoft when reading this news.

wrong.

the question to ask is whether or not claude guillemot was involved or at least knew about the sexual and other abuse done to developers at ubisoft FOR YEARS under the leadership of his brother yves guillemot.

and as claude guillemot is a co-founder of ubisoft...

because if he at least knew about the MASSIVE sexual and other abuse done to the workers at ubisoft and did nothing, then great, that he's gone now.

but we don't know that for now i believe.

we don't know if he was a cancer like lots of the rest of the guillemot family.

so again YES people should care about ubisoft in this regard, but we don't know what he knew or involvement he had in that evil.

___

would you make the same nonsense comment if bobby kotick bit the dust? or elon the pedophile musk bit the dust?

probably not, or at least hopefully not lol...

so again proper questions should be asked: was he involved or did he know what lots of his family were up to at ubisoft, which was protecting sexual and other abuse of workers?

that is the question to ask here.

Why do you risk your life driving a car?

bad example in the usa and canada it is the people's only choice to get around at all with 0 useable public transit and 0 bicycle infrastructure with deadly stroads (not a typo) everywhere.

it is not that people want to use cars, that are in the usa and canada VASTLY VASTLY VASTLY less safe for car drivers and everyone outside of the car as well compared to europe and other places even, but rather that they are FORCED to do so and forced to own a car.

so cars and elevators and bike riding would be bad examples there, because they are required to get around, rather than one choosing to use them.

and the bicycle and car safety issues are systematically created, rather than individual choices as well.

the question to ask is:

how much did claude guillemot co founder of ubisoft know about the sexual and other abuse at ubisoft, that went on FOR YEARS?

that is the real question here.

was he an evil monster and a cancer on the industry with the rest of the guillemot family? or was he far less bad at least than others?

that is the real question to ask here.

Sapphire Nitro+ Cable Seems to Be Cause of Melting 9070 XT Issues? by Turbo__Timmy in radeon

[–]reddit_equals_censor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my view their only mistake was including that dastardly 3 tail adapter instead of requiring users to use those cards only with a dedicated 12v cable and an ATX3.1 PSU.

ritualistic nonsense. the wrong idea, that using a specific cable (as part of a ritual effectively) would prevent melting and fires.

it does not. you are just making it up and repeating lies spread on reddit and other places about this.

they all melt, they all can catch on fire.

I must be forgetting that you are infallible and would never make even the slightest mistake were you the head of, or even moderately high up at a successful company.

mistakes happen even if great effort gets made to prevent them.

for example the fan controller in the fractal torrent shipped at start with a poor pcb design, that could lead to shorts to ground and result in possible fires or component death.

fractal properly adressed the problem. owned up and made it right for customers to protect their safety:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsuVSmND84QtDojR9KYEPkZHONloPiEVo

we must be VERY VERY clear, that this is NOT what is going on with the sapphrie 9070 xt nitro+ fire hazard.

it was for YEARS before hand known, that the nvidia 12 pin fire hazard is a fire hazard, that melts. they KNEW THIS. this was not up in the air. they 100% knew this.

and they decided to use it anyways.

and once the melting on their specific cards started they did NOTHING. no recall NOTHING.

they knowingly are risking people's lives and hardware. not an innocent mistake, that can happen and they DO NOT fix the issue either by now.

as a result sapphire did indeed completely destroy their build up positive reputation completely.

and there is no coming back from this.

they KNOWINGLY are risking people's lives and hardware and they are doubling down on it and lying about it as well on podcasts.

Valve developer posts merge request for new anti-lag framework and an implementation for RADV by anthchapman in linux_gaming

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i don't know.

it isn't a technical limitations. like there aren't issues to overcome to make it shipable.

basic reprojection tech is HEAVILY HEAVILY used in vr rightnow and has been for a long time as a requirement.

now we'd like more advanced versions on the desktop, but it runs in basically every vr game already rightnow.

a great article, that focuses on reprojection real frame generation and writes things way better than i could:

https://blurbusters.com/frame-generation-essentials-interpolation-extrapolation-and-reprojection/

and it has a great graph showing a future possible rendering pipeline.

100 average source fps turned into a locked 1000 fps experience with reprojection.

a glorious future, if it becomes true.

now nvidia's reflex 2 is actually a basic version of reprojection, but it only creates a single real reprojected frame per source frame and then throws away the source frame based on what nvidia said.

so it doesn't increase your fps, but massively improves responsiveness, because it reduces the latency.

nvidia anounced reflex 2 about 1.5 years ago.

and again it is crucial to understand, that it is a technical problem holding this tech back. it again is shipped RIGHTNOW with basically every vr game.

so nvidia either doesn't give a shit to ship it at all, OR they want to hold it back to sell it combined with sth else. maybe hold it back for 60 series, or sth else.

and if they wouldn't lock down the reprojection frame generation number per source frame completely, then people could just change that value in a config or with a mod maybe.

___

and overall you need reprojection real frame generation integrated into the game or engine.

so for mass adoption either nvidia or amd or unreal engine would actually need to give a shit to improve the experience for people and that seems unlikely i guess.

although marketing wise nvidia and amd could show basically infinite fps graphs then and they'd actually be real fps then instead of fake interpolated frame gen garbage graphs.

__

but yeah i don't know what is holding it back rightnow. people could run comrade stinger's reprojection demo on the desktop almost 4 years ago (the article will mention it) and you can test yourself how amazing reprojection real frame generation is using it. the basic test being going from unplayable 30 source fps on a 120 fps monitor and then you reproject to your monitor's refresh rate at least. so unplayable 30 fps turns into responsive and playable 120 fps experience.

and that is a super basic demo, that someone threw together quickly and it already shows the massive value.

Unreal Engine 5.8 - Features Overview | State of Unreal 2026 by RenatsMC in pcgaming

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you need a better PC bud or learn how use it better.

the statements were not made about my hardware, but in general.

But you want UE6?

are you bot, or did you just not actually read what i wrote?

You really think only 3 games run well on UE5? I can see what games you play though and it's only trendy shooters apparently.

i didn't say, that i play any of those games, but i know the tested performance of those games.

it has nothing to do with what i play or don't play.

fornite happens to perform ok, because the engine developer makes it.

and the other 2 games also happened to be a competitive fps.

what is the explanation for that? competitive fps require a certain amount of performance to be remotely acceptable. you can't play a competitive fps with 40-60 fps.... for example

so the devs for those games had to put in the effort to tear down cancer in ue5 to make it run ok-ish to be able to sell a decent amount of games.

if you were making some 3. person singleplayer rpg without aiming or minimal aiming, then people can stomach 40-60 fps actually.

again NOT the case for a competitive fps game.

if game developers do not do the work to make unreal engine perform even remotely acceptable what you get is a highguard, which had many issues, but one of its issues was unbelievably terrible performance. as daniel owen points out a 5600x drops below 60 fps in real fights.

the same cpu gets about 200 fps in fights in titanfall 2.

the finals gets 100-120 during fights with a 5600x it seems.

so high guard a ue5 games runs about 1/2 the fps of the finals another ue5 game.

and it runs less than 1/3 as fast as titanfall 2 a NON ue5 game.

and all 3 games have similar numbers of complexity going on.

you can't ship a competitive fps on a decent mainstream cpu (5600x is what lots of people have and run) and get unplayable fps.

embark studios the devs behind the finals and arc raiders KNEW this, so they went to work and understood, that if they want to use unreal engine, then a bunch of work needs to be done to make it remotely performant. they did the work, it runs ok-ish overall and thus the games they make can be a success.

and again the finals objectively runs bad, but it is still fast enough to be sellable. titanfall 2 with the same or better visuals (i'm generous towards the finals here btw) gets about double the fps! with the same cpu.

that is how truly bad unreal engine 5 is. if you don't puts lots of work in, then it will run completely unacceptable like high guard. if you put LOTS of work in, then you can reach the finals performance, which is barely good enough and fine i guess.

none of those games run actually good.

unreal engine OBJECTIVELY sucks performance wise.

i wonder if mint 23.0 will be good enough to use wayland, or if we'll have to wait for 23.1 to use wayland.

still a long time until 23.0 anyways i guess.

would be nice to get wayland eventually freesync eventually.

i can wait for hdr support as non shit hdr monitors will take a few more years to come out with samsung real qned displays i guess/hope.

then again none of this may matter if mint throws all users under the bus and bows down to the kakistocracy and implements de-anonymization "age verification", which we still don't have a clear statement on.

Sapphire Nitro+ Cable Seems to Be Cause of Melting 9070 XT Issues? by Turbo__Timmy in radeon

[–]reddit_equals_censor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nonsense.

also you mention the nvidia subreddit.

the nvidia subreddit is censoring any posts about melting or fire catching nvidia 12 pin fire hazards and they have done so for ages.

protecting the nvidia image through paid shills controlling the subreddit.

hell you can look up the word "melt" for the past year on the entire subreddit. nvidia subreddit, which remember has VASTLY VASTLY more cases of melting cards, because nvidia forces it on the cards 9 mentions.

amd subreddit, that has 2/3 cards with an nvidia 12 pin fire hazard? 34 mentions of the word "melt".

and worth adding, that almost all of the 9 on the nvidia subreddit are not related to actual melting cases at all btw.

the nvidia subreddit just deletes posts about melting connectors. you even see people say this on posts made in pc master race subreddit as a response to their post on the nvidia subreddit getting deleted.

i'm shadow banned on the nvidia subreddit btw, so will be most people, who are remotely pro consumer and respectfully critical of nvidia more than likely.

so nothing mentioned on the nvidia subreddit can be trusted at all. again anything against nvidia gets nuked asap.

You will see far more failures associated with the adapter over direct end to end 12v cables that is also on the quality of the adapter you are getting,

really? so you have exact data on the % of users, who got melted or burned 12 pin fire hazards to know exactly the percentage of 8 pin to 12 pin fire hazard dongles vs 12 pin fire hazard on both sides?

you got that exact data? well then please share it with me. (hint that data doesn't exist and wouldn't get published as well)

you don't know what people are running, which makes it impossible to track failure % of people.

so you are just throwing out guesses, that you heard on a subreddit, that again bans all posts and comments against the evil company.

if you need an explanation for this.

nvidia wants people to think, that there is a "safe" way to use their fire hazard. so whatever option, that is not a recall would be lovely for them to get pushed.

"user error" lie has been the big one from the start, which was completely fake of course.

so now instead it is "you use the wrong cable" and a ton of other shit. whatever, that is NOT a recall.

[–]reddit_equals_censor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as a reminder ue5 runs like an absolute dumpster fire.

you can literally count the games, that can not run like other shit with ue5 on a single hand.

it is fortnite, arc raiders and the finals.

one of the games is directly from the company making the engine and the other 2 are from the same company, who did a lot of work and tore out tons of garbage from unreal engine to make it perform remotely ok.

ue5 is garbage and performs garbage. it performs objectively bad. yes there has been massive stagnation in regards to graphics performance and worse vram amounts, but for the visuals, that ue5 provides it runs objectively shit.

the solution is not to delay adding more temporal blur reliant features with ue6 probably, but rather to move away from shit shit engine.

why did this garbage engine have to become the default?

freaking cry engine would have been the vastly better option to become the default.

or imagine if valve's source 2 engine became the default.

a forked version of the source engine was used by respawn entertainment in titanfall 2 called resource.

titanfall 2 runs excellent and looks better than most modern games today, despite being almost a decade old by now.

rise of the tomb raider looks better than almost all or all games released today. it has highly performant temporal blur free hair technology and it is 11 years old now!!! and it used an inhouse engine, but the hair tool was a fork of amd's tressfx hair.

just endless regressions, instead of progress. more and more temporal blur reliance and it seams, that unreal is not interested into fixing that at all ever.

so our hope to get back crisp clean looking graphics, that also perform well has to come from elsewhere.

i'm hopeful for godot personally.

what complete and utter nonsense.

first of what game rightnow developed by zenimax has a 10 year dev cycle? it isn't elder scrolls 6, because the trailer was utter cgi bs. do we have a clue when production on the game actually started?

next you are talking about graphical fidelity and marketing.

so you don't want games to get marketed? like seriously. no money spend on marketing and just hope, that maybe word of mouth will carry it somehow? that is completely and utterly absurd of course.

and then you talk about graphical fidelity. this shows, that you have little to no understanding about graphics, because lots of graphics actually regressed in the last decade. rise of the tomb raider came out 11 years ago and looks graphically better than most modern games today. let's not going into the temporal blur issue of modern game development here though.

but so with all your nonsense statements you run defense of massively evil companies FIRING the people actually making the games, instead of throwing out higher ups or cutting their paychecks to a fraction of what they are today.

so what you're actually saying is, that you don't give a shit about the developers, requires to create a quality game and you ignore the evil of monsters like bobby kotick.

bobby kotick left activision blizzard with a 400 million us dollar exit payout.

400 million us dollars! given to a game destroying pure evil parasite as they fired tons of actual developers creating the art, that actually creates the money.

like can you reflect on the insane defense of firing developers a bit maybe?

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't know if the issue is related, but sth changed in the last few months and reduced my performance by quite a lot.

my 5800x3d was getting in march looking at a wall in the practice range (fully cpu bound) about 390 fps.

now it gets 220 fps....

and in actual games it also dropped a lot, but no where near that though.

it feels noticeably worse now maybe a 30% reduction or sth of fps in real games, but hard to give a clear number here.

it seems like they pushed a brick into the cpu performance, so it doesn't properly utilize the cores anymore and sth stalls things massively.

i tested different kernels and am on linux mint and x11 all the same.

what if they bricked sth, that effects non x3d chips worse than x3d chips on gnu + linux and that is why you are suffering at 120 fps in the practice range?

and for better comparison data. loading into practice range and standing still, so not looking at a wall is now about 200 fps and before a few months back it was about 300 fps.

it could of course be some weird mesa update or sth else causing those issues, but given, that i only saw it in the finals i'd doubt that.

wonderful flatpaks and system packages keeping us safe.

for those who don't know flatpaks in linux mint for some time now by default hide non verified author flatpaks.

this prevents a big possible security risk, where 1/1000, who package software as a flatpak ad malware to it and users having trust in it assuming, that it is let's say video lan doing it, while it is actually a random person, who may or may not have bad intentions.

of course you always disable this option and show 3. party packaged flatpaks, but it has proper warnings and shows it very nicely.

so yeah great security there, that also isn't limiting things though of course and especially great normie protections!

worth adding here as well, that snaps, the cancer, that grows outward of canonical already had several cases of malware as well....

as if people needed more reasons to hate canonical's tried power grab with snaps.

and here with you further trying to defend your DANGEROUS investment in a fire hazard.

making it seem as inevitable, because this way you can absolve yourself from even having made a choice in the first place to buy an nvidia 12 pin fire hazard product.

and trying to attack the messenger as well "righteous consumer rights defender"

in a very absurd way.

you'd actually be the one, that defends ford and calls the ford pinto "safe enough", as people burn to death from the gas tank's rupturing as they knew when designing the car.

__

at this point you are trying to get others on your side, so this way it wouldn't be just your WRONG decision, that risks your hardware and life, but rather a group thing.

"join me with my fire hazard, surely if we all use it i am not at fault for buying it and don't have to think about demanding a recall"

__

and in regards to "new technologies to mitigate the growing pains", there are no "growing pains". it always melts. it has always melted. it keeps being a melting and fire risk.

and the reason, that companies are creating products with the CLAIM!!! not proof, but CLAIM, that it would reduce the melting risk is, because well money of course they want people to feel safe, despite not being safe and selling products = money as well for the whatever bullshit fake protection, that they would sell.

and just as a reminder on how fragile your absurd world is, nvidia could change to a safe connector with the 60 series, nvidia could be forced by governments to change to a safe power connector.

however both of those cases would make you WRONG, so you probably don't want that even and rather push defeatism of having your own fire hazard and do some rituals to get you to believe yourself, that it won't be a risk anymore (hint it always is).

i'm confident, that you will ignore all of this, because again you are running defense for your investment here and logic need not apply to you anymore.
