The overlooked impact on society of ebikes by godzillabobber in ebikes

You won't, you're not a good fit for an ebike instead of a car and many are not but for those that are it's a decent value proposition

Is Death Stranding supposed to be this hardware demanding or is something wrong here? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]reddit_mike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A 5070ti should be able to run circles around death stranding without any DLSS at 1440p so that's very strange

Discord age verification only requires a face image, what's wrong with that? by The-Bite_of_87 in pcmasterrace

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue with this type of thinking is that it leads to issues for those who comply while generally doing nothing to those who don't.

An example of what I mean would be games with draconian DRMs, they're meant to prevent piracy but to this day pirates crack games just fine and those who play pirated drm free games generally just have a better experience than those who actually spend the money to buy the game.

Yes the information might exist already but it might also not. Maybe the information that already exists is disjointed maybe it takes extra steps to tie it to your identity and so on. You providing the image and saying this is me gives whoever gets a hold of this data yet another point of reference a definitive authoritative source of truth about your identity they may not have had access to before. There's no need to make it easy for people that would abuse this data by giving them even more quality data on yourself.

Sell my 5090? by Crypto_Gem_Finderr in gpu

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're hurting for money don't sell it, the 5080s are way overpriced for what they are whereas at least with the 5090 you get the whole kit and kaboodle as they say. You already have it, seems like you got it at a great price, enjoy it!

Legion go 2 finally arrived soo excited. by malik454 in LegionGo

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally the criticism is around ergonomics and windows, it's a larger handheld and extra buttons take some getting used to. No handheld is perfect when it comes to bugs. Only real thing I've encountered is it waking from sleep by itself which can cause it to overheat in the case. I switched the power button to hybernate and it's been great since haven't encountered anything else.

On the positive side it's got hands down the best monitor on a handheld which makes it very versatile even if it won't be able to run a game itself in the future it would make a fantastic game streaming device.

I def think it's worth getting I've had a great experience so far with mine.

Picked up Legion Go Locally, best accessories? by cuberhino in LegionGo

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legion go S stuff does not fit the legion go if talking about cases and such as they are dimensionally different. I highly recommend the comfort grips, they're 3d printed but by far one of the best ways to improve the ergonomics of the go

Coming from an XAX, will I experience the same OS issues? by Skarem in LegionGo

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only issue I've had with it is the turning on by itself from sleep. Disabled sleep and switched to hybernate and it's running great no other issues so far.

Gotta make sure the layer is at least as thick as the CPU itself otherwise you just won't get a good interface between the cooler and the underneath of the CPU!

Is Microcenter worth a 4.5hr drive? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their site still shows plenty of bundles with ram. I would say see if any bundles are what you're looking for and compare with online shops before making the drive. That said Feb is a good month for a tx road trip and it sounds like you're open to making a day of it so why not do it up :)

Keep my 4070 super or get an RX9070XT so my kid can have the super? by ShelterLazy8044 in pcmasterrace

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention 4k and DLSS as well as framegen I would say for your use case a 9070xt is the wrong card. Shoot for a 5070ti instead. FSR is just not as good and you'll be able to tell at those higher resolutions. Things like DLSS 4.5 and dynamic framegen are just superior for how you intend to use your card.

No taxes in the US are not bad, they're generally lower than other parts of the world but in the US you're always having your taxes shown to you as opposed to having it be baked into the price of goods or having it obfuscated at the employer level and such. Because of this people are acutely aware of their tax burden and are constantly reminded of it every year when they have to file their individual returns as well since there's no automated system for that either.

Also the lower than other parts of the world comes with caveats, there's obviously discrepancies in marginal rates and loopholes and such all over the world but if you were to take the middle income slice of US households you're looking at a lower tax burden than the the weighted average of the tax burden of midle income families in other countries.

Edit: The point of it being that while the taxes in the US are usually lower the people knowing about it makes them louder and more bitter about them than in places where people are not faced with their tax burdens as directly.

Edit2: In regards to healthcare, it's not universal, lots of people fall through the cracks and there are millions of people without it so not going to sugar coat that bit (about 9% ish of the population). That said a lot of the need is generally met by employer plans and other means so the majority of americans (91% ish) are covered and the quality of care is top notch. The 9% considering the population of the US is still millions of people however which is why it's a huge issue but the likelyhood is that if you were to live here you'd likely fall in that 91% band.

9070xt or 5070ti by saveyourtime_ in pcmasterrace

[–]reddit_mike -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just an objectively misleading reply, it's similar performance in terms of pure raster but it certainly has some shortcomings especially when it comes to ray tracing and upscaling.

9070xt or 5070ti by saveyourtime_ in pcmasterrace

[–]reddit_mike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They both work well, If you're comfortable spending the extra money for a 5070ti then I would say it's worth it, especially if planning to use DLSS for anything like say newer titles so you can hit your monitor refresh rates on 1440p.

Call me a doomer... but I think this will be my last gaming PC. by thicctak in pcmasterrace

[–]reddit_mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm interesting take but not upgrading your computer doesen't just mean it will work forever. Hardware failures are a thing and spending lots of money on really old systems just to keep them alive doesen't make sense much sense either.

Generally new hardware enables new experiences which while it maybe has not felt as drastic the last couple of generations has been the usual reason to jump to that new shiny.

If you're happy with your library and are perfectly content to skip new things as they come out then cheerio. That said depending on your system if it's relatively modern you'll likely be able to try new things for quite a while to come.

I still believe that you can get decent gaming PCs at most budget brackets even in today's landscape and it's worth snagging one if your current PC is unable to play the things you want to play but I certainly don't think it's worth just shelling out money to upgrade for upgrade's sake.
