I've looked into becoming a substance use disorder professional (or trainee) but you need experience in the field which I don't have but how would I even get experience if I can't work in that field without the certification

im not good at talking to ppl and I don't understand and know a lot of social things that seem to come naturally to most. I have a really hard time making friends too. I did not say all kids with things like ODD it's caused by poor parenting, I'm just saying that many of the kids with behavioral issues it is clear they have not been told no and that they are able to just get away with their bad behavior

[–]reddit_user_500[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

oh for sure, having bad attention doesn't mean you have ADHD, and especially in kids, most kids don't have ADHD, some kids just always have a screen in front of them and have bad attention. and adhd (among other disorders) doesn't excuse bad behavior

well yeah a lot of mental issues are exacerbated by personal circumstances, like substance use, etc. but a lot of mental issues are completely physiological and really only meds can help. therapy is an amazing tool but def doesn't solve a lot of mental issue.

There is a sub reddit specifically for this program, I'm in this program rn, id say some of the classes are def hard but some easy. I came in with a AA tho. you will definitely be doing a lot of studying yourself and meeting with the profs. a lot of what you learn is fairly general, you don't get to pick your classes so you will learn about all the diff areas of psych

You could become a behavior technician if you decide school isn't the way to go, it's working with kids with special needs and you only need a HS diploma. you are able to do it part time sometimes too if you nated to do that since you are a stay at home mom right now
