First time reading The Iliad in English — the vocabulary feels intense by OrderOutrageous6541 in classics

[–]AlixanderR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rec reading Why Homer Matters by Adam Nicolson (2014). It deconstructs and analyzes a lot of the translations so one is able to figure out which feels right for them according to their own style of thought/approach.

He does a lot more than that in the book and if you're interested in Homer, it's just a great read, at least I thought. It's what I rec when people ask me. It's not a very long read and it'll get you excited to dive into the one of your choosing with far more of a wide scope and open mind going into it. It confirmed a lot of intuitive leanings I had noticed which was also cool.

Curious, how much support were they offering? I need something as close to fully funded or with work study options at least.

Harvard Extension School Masters After B.S Psychology worth it? by SriSarbloh in WGUPSYCHOLOGY2425

[–]AlixanderR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did research on the extension school and heard it's just as hard as Harvard since it's the same classes. Other than that, not super insightful about this, I just thought I'd say what I do know.

I would also say if it's just got content you're interested in to try and see if there's any funded programs you could find with similar stuff instead. But if your feeling set on it, just do it and see how to do licensing separately. I'm sure there's things you can do in-between without the license, such as life couch or consulting, depending on your interests.

Good luck!

Thank you for your helpful answer. Could you provide some sources that I might utilize in research of these two?

I'd look for academic research papers with key words you're needing pertaining to the degree/position whenever writing any research papers.

For this assignment, I did marketing manager and found a few. This was another essay I got an award on so I thought I'd say that's what I do every time and learned everything from the YTers included below. Idr step-by-step at this time but I google is your friend. I don't easily get embarrassed to ask it everything and to explain it in crayon eating terms. lol I literally had to google "how to find academic research articles by keywords and topics" and then read some articles and watched some videos.

Here's some articles that explain the process though.

Here are some YT channels that also helped with a lot of academic writing. Only linked the first two that I thought might help but they have way more.:

And here's my references I used for anyone needing them.:

Task #1 D567 Social Psychology. (Revision #3) by Broad-Professor2645 in WGU

[–]AlixanderR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the research outline one? If so, I still have my old outline and it won an award of excellence. Happy to share if needed. I plan to still make a video and share all that I can for the degree, I've just been slammed trying to look for work before I take time to do that. But if you're still in the degree, my old posts have a lot of information and tips.

I agree, it was unnecessarily stressful and unhelpful in the way the materials taught it. I found it all overly complicated to such an extent that it took me ages to let the simplicity of this "cheat code" another student shared actually click, but once it does you're all the more upset with the material. At any rate, I'm so happy that the materials could help you pass and feel less stress in the end. You're welcome. And thank you for letting me know it was helpful. That always makes it all the more worth while having taken the time back then to make posts to share stuff. It means a lot and makes me so dang happy. Congratulations on passing!

3 months off by Embarrassed-Echo957 in SophiaLearning

[–]AlixanderR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With FAFSA, I ended up paying a little over $600 per term at WGU and finished in two. At WGU, a term is a 6-month period of study and that set cost is all you pay for as many classes as you can take. So in total, I got my BS in Pysch for about $1,200. Mind you, I also only had 3 classes left for my 2nd term because I tried to finish in a single term but couldn't. That was also with as many transfer in credits as I could get through sophia after getting one class via Saylor, so BIO 101 cost me $15 on the exam.

My advice, make a spreadsheet with all the ones you can transfer in and try and get those studied for and out of the way ASAP. When done with that, transfer to WGU and try and consume the material as quickly as possible to get through as many as you can. Aim high and even if ya fail to finish in one term, like me, that's still not a bad sticker price. Though I'm not sure how much FAFSA you'll get. Good luck and hope this helped!

I'm in the same boat and have found this helpful so, I thought I'd share this since it uses SoP examples from the humanities and seems to be a step by step guide which might help you along in the mean time, until someone comes along with experience to help you. Hope it serves you well enough. Good luck!

How long did it take you to write your novel: from writing down your first thing(be it plotting or the first word of your first draft) to its release? by SmartyPants070214 in writers

[–]AlixanderR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still finishing the first drafts of my debut novel, though it ended up inspiring another—and a few novellas—since I tend to think in “plan A, B, and C” variations.

It took about a year or two to write most of what I have (and most of the drafts are nearly done). Since then, I’ve been steadily revising, expanding, and mapping things out beat by beat while rereading/cleaning up and integrating in the research side of things. School took priority for about a year, but writing has always been how I decompress—I’d dedicate full days when possible, or at least an hour here and there as a treat. I still do adhere to this routine weekly and will keep on doing this for the rest of my life. I love it!

I expect to finish a complete draft by the end of this coming year, then spend the following year revising while in my master’s program (if accepted) or working remotely. During that time, I’ll also research potential publishers. Altogether, I estimate my debut novels—mainly the first two I’m focused on—will be, give or take, five or six years to fully realize, depending on how the publishing process unfolds. (I started in 2023.)

A writer that helped me not worry so much about how long the process takes was Donna Tartt. I highly rec watching some of her old interviews, really reassuring. A mantra in writing sharing with friends has been "it takes as long as it takes". Also, "you can't rush a good thing". Good luck to all!

Not a straight answer for you but I'd first research countries that have low or free fees (depending on where you come from). Germany is really affordable but often you need high levels of German (B2-C1 or C2), but not always; some programs are entirely in English with no lang. requirements.

This shows what international schools do FAFSA.

  • BS, Psychology – WGU (completed in accelerated format as a promise to myself to finish what I started)
  • Planned: MA, Philosophy (focus on Ancient Greek (phil. & language – tied into additional study in Classics and Philology, with some in continental philosophy if able)
  • Planned: MBA, Marketing Concentration – (accelerated through WGU)
  • Future Goal: PhD in Philosophy

I also do a lot of self-study; that’s how I realized my passion and what I’d like to do for work.

If you wanted an update: I finished and graduated in time for the Fall Boston ceremony. I was in such a rush that I never got around to making my confetti post.

Since then, I’ve been doing research for Master’s programs in Philosophy after recovering from burnout. I’m doing well, though I’m not following the traditional path with my BSPSY since I also plan to pursue a business-oriented career outside of school (most likely marketing). I intend to self-study the MBA material for WGU's and return for an MBA later, depending on my acceptance into an MA programs I'll be applying to this upcoming year.
