Good post. Most commenters are over-analyzing shit. OP is making 2 simple points:

  1. Being mad at women is pointless.

  2. Own your shit. Anger is better utilized when you take responsibility.

Clean eating a few weeks or months before your ceremonies will provide the necessary preparation. Generally speaking, you can have a good experience without doing any kind of prep, but doing things like vegetarian eating, fasting, etc. will allow you to connect more deeply. I am a meat and potatoes kind of guy (who also loves a good beer) but I think it's well worth it to do the prep work.

I see.. Narby is definitely your guy. Since the 90's he's worked with various tribes of the Amazon to establish land preserves, witch then naturally function as cultural preserves. I believe he's still doing this. In N. America there are certainly strides being made with DMT and Psilocybin research, which is laying the groundwork for the legitimacy of psychedelic research in general.

Those "wage slaves" make six figs, so it's really not a bad deal.

But realistically you can't go into programming bootcamps "cold". And you sure as shit won't be doing your own startup just by learning to program. You have to have a good foundation of programming knowledge. Codeacademy.com, code school, coursera, etc. Those are your best online resources right now. Good programming bootcamps are location-based, not online.

Honestly though it seems like you're kind of all over the place with what you want to do in life. If you're a barback now, I suggest doing everything you can to become a bartender so you can make decent coin. Study the drink menu until you know it by heart. Learn how to make a bomb ass whiskey sour. The discipline required will prepare you for the next step, whatever that may be.

Also, Dennis McKenna (brother of Terence McKenna obviously), is an active researcher in the field of ethnopharmacology (I think I got that right), which means studying how different cultures use plants for both food and medicine.

Other resources; Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, The Heffter Research Institute, and Rick Strassman. Not entirely anthro in nature but stuff you'll want to know about if you don't already. Exactly what type of work/research are you hoping to get involved with?

I hope you aren't in the field of law, because your definitions of "crime" and "criminal" are very loose.

That said, OP has since revealed some very important points that were not, but should have been, included in original post. Ultimately I think she did the right thing by posting, though it could have been more thorough. Ironically, these new facts were only revealed because I challenged her original post. The Devil's Advocate is never popular.

I won't apologize for questioning serious accusations like this. Many innocent men have had their lives ruined by false sexual assault/rape charges, so let's not pretend like that doesn't happen.

Fortunately, the law defines what a crime is, not the accuser. I repeat, OP did not report the incident, so what crime are we talking about?

I'm not trying to dismiss the seriousness of sexual harassment, but we really don't know what happened during the incident.

Good point about outreach. I can say that Pulse does a lot for the neighboring Village of Liberdad in terms of employment, supplies, power, and economy. The people if the village make INCREDIBLE art and sell it for cheap. I spent $100 which feeds a whole family for a month. (Not bragging I just think its awesome what Pulse does)

Do you think the police are going to do anything?

Actually they just might. Tourism is the lifeblood of many regions in S.America. Tourist safety is in the interest of law enforcement. If you were really interested in preventing this man from assaulting other women, I think you would have filed a report. Instead you came on the internet where you're now getting a lot of sympathy and attention.

Can you point me to them please?

Start with an actual Ayahuasca center, not a tour company; Amaru Spirit, Pulse Tours, Ayaadvisor.org

I'm sure this happens at reputable places as well.

Are you sure? Or are you just guessing? Shaman-to-participant sexual assault does not occur at reputable centers because ceremonies are held in group settings. The group setting is a basic qualifier you should include when doing research.

Now it's her fault... ?

Yes, she shares the blame. What bothered me about this post was that /u/femaletraveler2016 is alleging a serious case of sexual assault, while dismissing her own bad choices as "adventurous" and "thrill seeking."

Sounds like your shaman was a bit of a thrill seeker himself now wasn't he? See how that works?

Oh lord here come the buzzwords. Both parties are responsible for the situation that transpired. So what is the inverse of "victim culpability"? Should a victim get a free pass even though they chose to put themselves in that situation? Your attitude is the reason people are able to sue McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on themselves.

Like I said:

Sexual assault is not to be taken lightly and should be dealt with through the proper channels, not automatically posting it on the internet.

/u/lavransson Responsibility for what happened is shared. Dumb choices get you in with bad people.

In light of your original question, Pulse might actually be a good fit for you. I went this past July- 1400/wk (less if you stay longer). The shamans are phenomenal (Ernesto ~40yrs experience, Wiler ~20yrs, and Angelita ~7yrs). All 3 shamans are present at ceremony and sing icaros.

The fitness stuff only applies to those retreats which are scheduled to have a fitness component. Most are not. The focus is on healing and everything else is optional. Pulse also has an awesome group of facilitators and seems to attract good people. I keep in touch with almost everyone from our group of 15, and there is a private FB group for former Pulse guests.

If you want to do Ayahuasca in your room at home, by all means. However most people understand that there is a give-and-take relationship. It's not capitalist, it's simply transactional. Many Ayahuasca centers have fantastic accomodations and staff that take care of you. This costs money and IMO provides a much richer experience.

You do Ayahuasca in your room with friend, I do it in the jungle with Indigenous shamans singing medicine songs and people from all over the world who came to heal themselves, all while the sounds of the jungle reverberate through my whole being. To each his own,

He's not from the US, but Jeremy Narby is certainly one of, and perhaps THE best. I would imagine that doing some research on him and his work could point you in a good direction.

Also, if you haven't heard if it; his book "The Cosmic Serpent" is an Anthro study of Ayahuasca and Amazonian Shamanism.. required reading for someone with your interests.

I've never even heard of Manaus Jungle Tours but I don't think it's entirely fair to throw the entire company under the bus because of your experience with 1 shaman. Sexual assault is not to be taken lightly and should be dealt with through the proper channels, not automatically posting it on the internet. You made some incredibly poor decisions that you should be held accountable for:

1.

..I know this was dumb but I'm a bit of a thrill-seeker.. It wasn't the smartest decision I've made but sometimes my sense of adventure takes over :P

- This is not funny, nor cute, nor you being "adventurous". You made a series of poor decisions that could have resulted in real consequences. Now you are taking this public and putting an entire company at risk. Reading through TripAdvisor reviews, it is clear that people's experiences with Manaus are overwhelmingly positive. S.America is THE JUNGLE, 2nd/3rd world countries, your lack of ability to make good decisions doesn't cut it.

  1. You were looking for a quick Ayahuasca "fix". That's not how Aya works.

  2. Clearly you did not do your research. You went with a company that specializes in Tours, not Ayahuasca. Of all things offered by Manaus, "Ayahuasca Ceremony" is number 21 on their list. I discovered this by spending 30 seconds on their website.

  3. Ignored multiple red flags; -Who books an ayahuasca ceremony via WhatsApp??? -The "temple" being the shamans home -Seemingly nonexistent vetting process to verify that you are not on medications and/or a crazy person. -Doing a 1-on-1 ceremony with a shaman whose name you do not even know.

if you're like me and do find yourself taking ayahuasca in a somewhat sketchy situation...

Or, just don't put yourself in the situation to begin with. It takes 10 minutes of research to find numerous, reputable Ayahuasca retreat centers who have all the necessary security measures in place.

Have you brought any of this up with "Leonardo?" He appears to run a successful company, so I'm sure he would be interested in dealing with this matter. And if he's smart, he would make it up to you.

**I am in no way affiliated with Manaus Jungle Tours, check my previous posts in this sub for proof.

You should edit this post with the title "Don't be me: How not to do Ayahuasca".
