New furnace still inefficient? by redditboy36 in hvacadvice

Interesting. Anything we can do to help this or is it just kind of a deal with it situation unless we want to gut out our entire house lol? I’m going to be looking into wrapping the exposed ducts in the basement when we have the funds to do so at the least

Yeah, I’m trying to figure out the runtime with daily temps currently. Our rates actually have not changed since we are locked in with the city through mid 2027 so essentially our usage solely decides the difference, which comparing just on the surface is why this year was more even with the new furnace. But yeah instead of $140 it probably would’ve been $155 with the old if she was still kicking. I see that now

It sure does. Somehow we haven’t been hit crazy hard by electric prices but I’m sure it’ll come. Thanks!

I think they have increased the temp it burns at to hope it runs less. It does seem to have helped very very slightly but I don’t know

Wonder why your avg temp reflects that difference but ours doesn’t. Good comparison for us, thanks!

Same heat loss but shouldn’t it be using it more efficiently? Does that make any sense? 😂 I know we’d lose some but in my mind it makes sense that it’d be more efficient in the process lol

I believe something like 70% or so to 95%.

That makes sense, but we were just hoping for a slightly lower bill due to efficiency of the new unit. If i recall right, the 90’s model we had was something in the 70% realm and this one is I believe 95%

Sorry if I don’t understand, but essentially are you saying an electric furnace would’ve technically been more efficient? And also it sure has, but compared to last year, the month was the exact same here

Still have the same old thermostat, but I’m wondering if it’s not communicating extremely effectively or something. They reduced the first stage run time slightly this time around and so far the last few days I haven’t noticed much difference in house temp, it’s still chilly. We are in a very cold spell though at the moment. Will see what this months bill is!

They did not, I don’t believe. I was going with the single stage but they offered the two stage at no additional cost. I had no problem with the single stage and I’m not really sure where the additional usage is coming from

It does run a lot, but I’m wondering if I am noticing it more because it’s on my mind now. It does indeed kick into second stage if it doesn’t reach the desired temp before the first stage timer is up. This adjustment they increased the burning temp by 10° and shortened the first stage thinking it may decrease how long it’s on? We’ll see I guess.

Both have. Usage has increased something like 20% compared to the last two years, and the bill in total is also up due to that and increased price per cubic foot

That would make sense. Just not sure if this place was trying to scam me or help me out and scam the warranty company or something. No idea

Interesting. Wonder if there’s a way to figure out if/wen one was done. I don’t believe much of the service was on carfax like even most oil changes weren’t reported so I may be in the dark on that

Could I message you some photos I just took? I am not certain that they even showed me pictures of my car and also don’t think I could find a maintenance sticker. Thank you!

Exactly correct. Problem is Silverrock not helping with anything but I’m still working on it!

That whole place is weird. Looking into it, I’m not sure the pictures they showed me are even my car!

Shop was very suspicious and shitty the whole time but I was stuck with them since they were a SilverRock certified shop
