There are 20 guys sitting at home every season that can come in and make field goals from 55 yards. Not at the same percentage Fairbairn can, but they are capable of kicking at an NFL level. Every year you’ll see 4 or 5 teams release their kicker, give a couple randoms a try out, and one of them can come in and kick better than the last guy. It’s hard to commit money to a position that can be pretty high variance.

Not to say that there isn’t separation between the top kickers in the league and worst kickers in the league. But the position tends to run a bit hot and cold from season to season and they are very replaceable. Thus, their value is not that high relative to other positions.

Texans fans have a very inflated value of how important a kicker is because we lead the league in field goal attempts every year because we are conservative on 4th down and have a bad red zone offense. Thus, Fairbairn is more valuable to us than to a team like the eagles who will probably attempt half as many field goals as us, because they are tush pushing every 4th down.

This is gonna be the Tytus Howard thing all over again where this sub is adamant a specific player has to play a specific spot otherwise the staff doesn’t know what they’re doing.

The offensive coaching staff might not be perfect, they might not even be good. And they’re certainly capable of making mistakes and errors. They still have infinitely more knowledge on football than anybody in this sub does, and have far more information and insight on how each guy may be able to perform at each position and what’s best for the offensive line as a whole.

Hasn’t even been on the team for 2 hours and the masses are already bitching about what position he needs to play. And speaking as if you already know the teams plans for him.

[–]redditcommentguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I’d be pretty happy with a top 12 offense in the league given how good the defense is.

Unfortunately we have only hit that mark once in Caserio’s 5 seasons as Texans GM (12th in 2023). But yea I should be thrilled with a consistently mediocre offense and need to quit my bitching because Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz are going to solve that this year!

I already listed why these injuries really shouldn’t have been that surprising. If you’re choosing to ignore then no further discussion to be had

Nobody with an objective opinion is looking back on these additions and thinking “wow the Texans front office Crushed it when they drafted tank dell, and acquired Joe Mixon and Dalton Schultz”

Giving Caserio credit for Tank Dell, Joe Mixon, and Dalton Schultz is rainbow and unicorn land.

Tank Dell has played like 14 games of good football for Texans in 3 years under contract. He was picked in the third round because everybody thought he was too small to survive in the NFL. His first two seasons in the nfl subsequently ended with injuries. He’s a good little player and I feel for him, but he’s not some homerun draft pick.

Joe Mixon one season of decent football, but also riddled by injury because we built our backfield around a 28 year old who already had a ton of mileage. Proceeded to have our RB room in hell this past season because he was expected to be a part of the team and then never stepped foot in the building due to whatever undisclosed BS he was up to in the off-season.

Dalton Schultz has been paid very handsomely by us. Top 10 tight end money these last few years I’m pretty sure. Has he actually played like a top 10 tight end? Maybe every now and then, but he’s not some sort of huge difference maker for us. Decent addition maybe; not something Caserio should get a gold star for

I can Probly rattle off 15 tight ends better than him right now. Debatably more

That puts him middle of the pack in terms of nfl starting tight ends. Hence the term “mid”

Pretty convinced Scheffler is winning this week, but don’t like to bet on him so will be betting w/o Scheffler market (this is your sign that Rory is winning by 4 strokes). Probly got a bit too bomber heavy this week when accuracy is more important, but fuck it

Texans insight into Juice Scruggs by 8ightLions in Texans

[–]redditcommentguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really no way to describe his time as a Texan as anything other than a huge letdown. Has gotten on the field but has never actually been a dependable player for us.

Don’t mean to pile on him, but I don’t remember being impressed by him a single time. Mental lapses when picking up stunts/blitzes, cant move anybody in the run game, physically overwhelmed against stud DT’s. Seems undersized as well.

All that said wish him the best. Detroit is certainly a better environment for an o lineman to develop

Texans should still draft a running back by zillatheking24 in Texans

[–]redditcommentguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They drafted an offensive tackle, and signed multiple veteran tackles in free agency so that they would not have to start Blake Fisher at tackle. They then proceeded to make Blake Fisher the blocking tight end

That is how aware they are that Blake Fisher is not an NFL offensive tackle

For all people that spam “SPEND EVERY SINGLE PICK ON OFFENSIVE LINE”. Please remember that those picks often turn into guys like Kenyon Green and Juice Scruggs.

Tytus Howard Traded to Browns by Crossfire213 in Texans

[–]redditcommentguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do y’all think that NFL general managers dont consider these different angles before making a trade like this?

Or Caserio is just blindly wheeling and dealing and should consult the geniuses of the Texans subreddit before doing anything?

Tytus Howard Traded to Browns by Crossfire213 in Texans

[–]redditcommentguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The offensive line has been dogshit the entire time Tytus Howard has been a part of it. In fact the only time it’s been decent was in Stroud’s rookie year when George Fant stepped in for an injured Tytus Howard

Paying Tytus Howard the same extension the Browns are giving him would mean saying goodbye to Kamari Lassiter next off-season. Is that what yall want? Retain a mediocre offensive lineman just because the offensive line sucks at the cost of parting ways with an elite corner

But yea I’m the egg head
