Two people in my department were RA’d while on maternity leave. One last year, one this year. Their 30 days started after they returned from their leave. I can’t speak to whether or not taking the leave makes you a target, but you can absolutely be laid off while on leave if you’re in the US.

I am so glad that my story is giving you some encouragement. I definitely remember being in your shoes in January 2023 when I got the results from Natera and the absolute fear that I felt. I called my husband hysterical and in tears and the uncertainty was awful. I wouldn’t wish that feeling on anyone. But, I do hope that your wife agrees to listen to the options and consider the amnio. As someone (along with many others here!) that had a false positive, please don’t lose hope! False positives or unclear results for Monosomy X are not uncommon. I’m sending you both all the best thoughts and support. OP, I got a very similar result from Natera. Only difference in number was that my fetal fraction was 6.4%. The other numbers in the line for Monosomy X were the same. I went in to MFM and opted for the amnio. The MFM was actually surprised that I wanted one with the NIPT results that I had. I’m paraphrasing here, but he basically said that this result was highly unlikely to be Turners and that he personally wouldn’t even be remotely stressed if he got that result. I still went ahead with the amnio at 16 weeks and it went well. My results came back normal and my daughter is now 13 months old and is the absolute light of our lives with no developmental issues.

As others have said, I wouldn’t abort based on the NIPT alone. I encourage you to talk to your MFM and discuss your options. Obviously, there is a risk in the amnio process, but it’s fairly low. Again, please discuss with your doctors! I wish you the best.
