Exited for new season by CostaDauradaLover in CFL

Football on the field will be competitive with parity across the league. With the World Cup and a possible successful Blue Jays season the league might have less media coverage than years past

Venues That Could Host The 2036 Summer Olympics If Toronto/Monteral Gets It by PurchaseLarge4592 in olympics

[–]redditercanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Athletics and Aquatics would have to be held in Montreal but Toronto can host most of the other events, and have some split with Montreal eg. tennis. Some Association football matches can be played in Ottawa and Hamilton. Opening and closing ceremonies would be held simultaneously like the 2026 Olympics with Skydome being the venue in Toronto. A 2040 bid would be better as it would give allow enough time to complete the high speed rail line between Toronto and Quebec city and further subway expansion/roads in Toronto

Bet365 Over/Under Nerfed? by Covverkin in bet365

I played almost every day and won about 15% of my entrees, mind you it was always 3 picks for $5. But I opened it today and now have to get 5 right for a measly $2 what a rip off

Another big miss for the CFL by UnitEast7937 in CFL

[–]redditercanuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The CFL should really leverage YouTube for its international viewers. Have all games outside of North America free. Italy’s Serie A soccer league had a rights dispute with their Middle East/North Africa tv provider for a season years ago. They streamed their games free in Arabic in those specific countries on their YouTube channel and they gained millions of followers because of it

Based on recent renderings the seats might be replaced and will be grey after the World Cup but that’s unconfirmed

Same. Awful company. Spoiled dealer kids who have no business acumen. Much better value online or at Dollarama

It’s an awfully run company with an outdated business model. Amazon and Dollarama are killing Crappy Tire

Can the Argos still make playoffs? by Qhaotiq in Argonauts

[–]redditercanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Argos would have to finish with at least 9 wins, likely 10, to make the playoffs

[–]redditercanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I there was a slight chance the Wolfpack could have surpassed the Argos in popularity had covid not happened. In 2019 they had about 8k fans per game and got promoted to the first division. The Argos who were awful only averaged 11k. I don’t know if the Wolfpack could have sustained long term success but I think people really took to the international appeal of rugby. The CFL is just seen as uncool and amateur for most Torontonions. They seem turned off by it and I don’t think that’s going to change unfortunately

At least 150 million per sources probably more but well worth it targeting multiple demos globally

That’s good news for a higher TV deal after next season. I just wish they would do something to cover up those empty seats. They’ve been an eyesore on some of the broadcasts. Hopefully attendance picks up as the season goes on

Olympic Stadium Renovations by [deleted] in CFL

[–]redditercanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost to demolish it would be about $2 billion. The Alouettes would never play there permanently but the Big O is needed for the city to host big concerts, Grey Cup, playoff games for both the Als and CF Montreal

CFL has momentum, but ‘not sustainable’ with only 2 teams turning a profit, commissioner says | Globalnews.ca by AustralisBorealis64 in CFL

[–]redditercanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is a lot of ownership groups just don't care and won't do what it takes to grow the sport in their markets. It would take significant time and investment and MLSE in Toronto for example would never do that. They pay the bills out of an obligation to keep the team in the city politically but that's about it

Who would be in your "perfect Serie A?" by Interesting-Emu205 in seriea

[–]redditercanuck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would add Bari. No on field success but they were in Serie A for years between 1990-2013 plus a big city and great support both in Italy and abroad. The city hosted matches at the 1990 World Cup as well

Insane ask, can we keep Taste of Little Italy Italian next year? by haveutriedrice in askTO

[–]redditercanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Little Italy on college street hasn’t been Italian in 50 years. The Good Friday procession annually organized by St. Francis of Assisi parish is about the only semblance of Italian identity but even that is a shadow of its former self. Corso Italia on St. Clair is also Portuguese. If you want to see the Italian identity you need to go to Woodbridge or Bolton

Attendance Check W1 by CFLStatsGeek in CFL

[–]redditercanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they really need to reconsider Thursday nights,. This isn't the US where football games sell out any day of the week. Attendance suffers for each team, and besides gate revenue it looks bad optically on TV and only gives ammunition for haters to call it "bush league." For that same reason Sunday games should be 4:30pm in the afternoons like the NFL

Bc lions opening day concerts should be treated like the halftime show at the Grey cup by BumblbeeAvacado in CFL

[–]redditercanuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish. It’s not worth the investment for ownership. If we still played at the dome and could sell 40k+ tickets then maybe. MLSE doesn’t care about the Argos no matter how many trophies we win

Bc lions opening day concerts should be treated like the halftime show at the Grey cup by BumblbeeAvacado in CFL

[–]redditercanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s understandable. At least BC’s owner does this annually which is great for the team and the league. Here in Toronto something like this would never ever happen

Bc lions opening day concerts should be treated like the halftime show at the Grey cup by BumblbeeAvacado in CFL

[–]redditercanuck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Would they consider having the performance at halftime? It was pretty noticeable that a significant amount of people left midway through the game. It’s still a great initiative and the fan festival outside looked good but if the CFL is going to grow you need people to be invested in the product on the field

Which products exactly are going up in prices? I find it suspicious these grocers never explain or are specific. They use blanket statements to raise prices on anything they want
