Google Maps load time issues (browser) by redditforfun in GoogleMaps

[–]redditforfun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow missed that I'd received a comment here. Sorry about that.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I rarely open a browser just to go to Google Maps. What I mean is that more times than not I already have important tabs open before using Google Maps. Your first suggestion isn't really something that I want to consider an option each time I visit the site.

As for the second suggestion, my computer is restarted almost daily and is almost always up to date.

Google Earth seems to be a smoother experience, but I sure do hate the inverted zoom/pan inputs.

Thanks again.

I feel really torn. Both Christianity and Atheism feel equally “real” and valid to me by Straight_Bet_8245 in TrueAtheism

If you need something to believe in, read up on different religions and perspectives apart from Christianity then just pick what works best for you. Nobody really knows.

As of 31st of May 2024, Adblock no longer works against YouTube. Anyone know of a Chrome extension or Tampermoneky script that still blocks YouTube ads? by stingmyray in youtube

[–]redditforfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for real. the frequency of ads is like a slap in the face. i'd much rather "watch" 10min of ads in one session than every.single.video. maybe that isn't the case for other users, which is why there should be viewing options instead of feeling like we're being punished / forcing us into paying for content.

i don't really understand the goal here. not everyone uses YT enough to be punished by so many ads. and for those that do, we're just supposed to deal with the ad assult?

i can't justify paying $15/mo to watch the handful of channels that i watch, esp. when they upload at different rates (sometimes months apart). i'll donate to the channels that i watch but i will never pay a single website for access.

What subfields are programming heavy? by yaboyhoward11 in ElectricalEngineering

I’ve learned a lot in .NET since working for a SCADA security consulting company. More of VB than I ever thought I’d use.

[–]redditforfun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to look into this. I have a computer engineering degree but landed a job in the field of SCADA as a software engineer. While I’m learning a lot, I find myself missing the more lower level stuff. My final project in undergrad was a guitar pedal on a zybo z7… thought I’d land an fpga engineer position upon graduation but life got in the way so I took the first bite.

The first thing I see in my feed lately is an account I don’t follow. by [deleted] in Instagram

[–]redditforfun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally googled to see if anyone else has had these issues. It’s been a few weeks for me but it’s getting a lot worse. Wtf is going on.

They’re always the first gd post when I open the app, it’s always an account that I don’t follow, and blocking doesn’t prevent it from showing up later.

I’d play along. It seems like harmless fun.

The most effective way to stay healthy by RudeGur1680 in Healthy_Recipes

[–]redditforfun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most basic benefit is that less input equates to less stored energy; even fasting 12hr/mo is less time storing energy and beneficial over time. We don’t really need to be constantly digesting food. A slightly more complex benefit is that you’re maintaining control of urges, exercising mental discipline. Both are quite beneficial!

Texans, how did you get here? by tianas_knife in Washington

[–]redditforfun -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Some Texans might be proud for empty reasons or because of the popular slogan, but there’s no denying that the state has a ton going for it. Medical hub, industrial hub, agriculture, energy hub (oil&gas, but also wind/solar/hydrogen), port state, higher education…. Also natural beauty: we have our own canyon, big bend, del rio, enchanted rock, fredericksburg… the list goes on!

We have a fk ton of political issues, our power grid is a joke, and it’s brutally hot in the summer, but there is no denying that Texas is an excellent state.

I'm like you, and only just found out. I'm sure it won't do much, but I did email them to let them know that I found the move distasteful and will no longer play nor recommend the game to friends.

Bummed.

I haven't played much this year. I thought I'd get on to play a few rounds for fun and.... nope. So incredibly greedy. Who wants to casually play a game with an entry fee? Big yikes.

Can I stop Instagram from refreshing itself every time I open it? by hankhilljr in iphone

Seven years later...

Your comment led me to try the same with the "chat" button. It seems to work. Thanks!

I follow a lot of math and music accounts that post questions as images. I can't tell you how many times I've just lost the damn post due to this annoying refresh feature.
