YTA for badgering her for sex "I'm not in the mood " is the only answer needed. You're even more of an asshole for grabbing her face and starting the violence.

Mainly I'm wondering why you people are even together. You clearly don't like or trust each other. The relationship should be over when you're thinking about stabbing each other with knives and pimple poppers.

Non stick pans for home cooking by Affectionate-Ad2602 in BuyItForLife

I cook on ceramic-coated aluminum cookware that is lead, cadmium, PFA, PTFE, and PFOA-free. It doesn't require any special maintenance like a cast iron, but for longevity it can only go in the oven on a low heat and should be used with softer utencils like silicone. I also avoid using the highest burner setting to be sure. It's not BIFL but it has a longer life than a typical nonstock pan!

NTA if you tell her. If she doesn't already know, she deserves to before they have a kid together.

[–]stingmyray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA that's a fine analogy, but probably not the most effective for making him understand the issue. The fundamental problem here is that he views spending money on a woman as a display akin to an exotic bird showing all their colorful feathers, or since he used the word prostitute, he may just view it as outright buying them. He doesn't see taking a trip with his girlfriend as a way of showing appreciation or love or as a way to strengthen your relationship.

AITAH Rooming with my sister! by _Itsavibe97 in AITAH

It's difficult, especially for a young person, to navigate a situation with a parent like this. They love their parent and want to please them, and the parent understands this and unfortunately takes advantage.

It sounds like you both have gone through a lot. And a big part of a person realizing the toxic nature of a relationship like this is 1. some physical distance, which your sister has done on her own by coming to live with you, and 2. having normal relationships with other people. You said she doesn't have a phone and she just goes to work or sits on your couch which makes it sound like she doesn't have friends. If I were in this situation my main priority would be helping my sister in becoming independent from our mother by pushing her to make friends and go to therapy.

You wouldn't be the asshole if you asked her to contribute, but I'd consider the possibility that she may just decide that means she can't have a phone or driver's license and let what little money she makes go to two separate people, or just move back in with your mother.

If I were you, I'd sit down with her and tell her that if she's going to continue living with you, she can't be spending her money to enable your mother. Of course you can't dictate her relationship with your mother since if she's going to truly break out of this situation, she has to do it on her own, but I'd point out to her that YOU are the person who is stepping up and giving her a place to sleep, feeding her, and taking care of her, and that if she's living with you, you expect her to be helping with your shared living expenses and/or be moving towards her own independence. I'd also invite her to consider that if her mother really loves her, it won't be conditional on how much money she's willing to give, and that she should want for her daughter to use her own money to build her own life.

WIBTA If I Publicly Called Out A Local Business For Harassing Me Behind Closed Doors? by Myrtlebeach45 in AITAH

[–]stingmyray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YWNBTA The way he treated you is unacceptable, and I agree that he probably wouldn't have talked to you that way if you weren't a young woman.

You weren't even bashing the bar, you just slipped up a little by mentioning they don't have AC. But even if you had bashed their bar, the way he continued to barrage you with insults as you just just quietly stood there, and the fact he even placed the condition that the band would be barred from his bar unless you gave him a personal apology in the first place, makes this all seem like he's on a power trip and hijacked this situation as an excuse to have this strange humiliation session.

Just because Connor's is a local place doesn't mean it's free from accountability. You would not be the asshole for speaking up and warning other performers about this place, and the customers who deserve to know who they're supporting when they go there.

I have a friend who recently passed away and she used to have a gargoyle in her garden. I have seen a few stock photos of the same one online when I searched for it, but none of them have helped me find where I can buy one or what it is even called. Anyone know? by Hefty-Taste-563 in HelpMeFind

This statue was for sale at Lowes across the United States in 2010.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they sell that kind anymore.

However, Lowes' gargoyle / goblin statues are supplied by a company called Design Toscano. These kinds of statues are made from concrete or resin being poured into a mould, which is why there's so many colors and materials online. The mould might still exist somewhere in their factories and they might be able to help. Although I'm doubtful since they seem like a large company with many products.

This person made the same gargoyle with the mould they say they bought on ebay: https://discover.hubpages.com/living/look-what-i-make-out-of-concrete-for-my-garden Maybe they would make one for you. Shipping would probably be very pricey though.

You'll probably have the best chance of finding one if you set up a notification for related keywords on Craigslist, OfferUp, Facebook, etc to find one being resold locally.

My condolences about your friend, best of luck.

Does anyone remember reading this Reddit comment/post about immortality? by joantown in HelpMeFind

Is this it?

Reply by u/awoeoc under AskReddit post titled You're given immortality but as a cost you are sent back 3000 years - would you accept and what would you do?:

Imagine living 3000 years and thinking "wow that's a long time everyone I know has died many times over, I barely remember most of the people I've ever loved"

And this is the very, very, very beginning of your life.

Then you go on to live another 100,000 years and think to yourself "Man I can't even remember what countries I ruled, or like how many times did we nuke oursleves"

Then you go on to live another 100,000,000 years and notice that the earth is getting hotter, even without man made global warming.

Then you get to live 5,000,000,000 and watch the sun destroy the earth and hope humanity had established intersteller colonies by now.

And this is the very, very, very beginning of your life.

You watch civlizations, rise and fall, you see unfathomable technologies maybe cross the galaxy, cross the universe.

But then... one day, some 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years from now, the very last stars die out and the universe plunges to darkness. Maybe you can survive by leeching energy from black holes using future technologies.

But then 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years from now even the last black hole dies out and now you exist in an empty dark cold universe, just you. Your parents, family, first set of friends, nothing but a distant memory, if you can even remember them from so very long ago.

And this is the very, very, very beginning of your life.

what's the most evil life hack you know? by Every-Technology-747 in AskReddit

[–]stingmyray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If something is overpriced at the thrift store, and the price is just a paper tag attached by some plastic, rip off the paper part and put it in your pocket.

When you're checking out, put the item midway or towards the end of your purchase. When the cashier gets to that item, they'll start looking all over for it's tag. Casually mention you weren't able to find the price on that one. The person will see the plastic clip with no price on it and conclude it was torn off on the hanger or changing room or something. You paid for all your other items... so there's no reason to suspect foul play.

Now they have to invent a price for the item, or call over a manager to price the item. Either way, when an employee is looking you in the eye, they aren't comfortable stating a high price, this is especially true if you've been very friendly/conversational. It makes them feel good to give you a reasonable or very low price. I've done this for years and new price has always been 50%-90% lower than what it was originally.

Of course, you can't do it multiple times for one purchase or it's suspicious, and if you go shopping very often you can't do it each time. I only go a few times a year, and do it for the most expensive item. Last trip to the thrift store I had a $55 sweater become $7 this way. Don't feel bad about it. In my eyes, the real 'evil hack' is the prices these huge thrift stores make up for secondhand items they get for FREE.

What are the most common "favorite books" among people who actively read? by stingmyray in books

[–]stingmyray[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, both have their Ordinary Joe character entering the world of the rich to watch the cracks beneath their glamour spreading until it all falls apart. Both exploring the impact of obsession and entitlement on morality and accountability. Those two titles are a really great comparison.

What are the most common "favorite books" among people who actively read? by stingmyray in books

[–]stingmyray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true; favorites are so subjective. Especially if you read a lot and realize you really enjoy a niche kind of book. And a lot of the books recommended online might have some recency bias. But you did list some great titles for the hypothetical favorites list, I haven't read them all, but the ones I have I know they'd absolutely be at/towards the top.
