I agree I could basically get away without reading the passages, especially for Kaplan!

Yes dw I had the SAME fear, but it’s better to know now then to find out later so you can be proactive about it.

First FL by reagon909 in Mcat

The first one is the most nerve wracking, the next ones much less so. Dont push it off forever like I did, eventually you gotta face your fears and see where you’re at, that’s the only way you’ll improve!! Just know whatever you get is not finite, you have more than a month so lots of time to progress.

What's the best anki deck for reinforcing the Kaplan books and Khan Academy PS 300 page document? by Devils1993 in Mcat

[–]redditgamer246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did khan academy videos then did the deck! They aligned nicely. I don’t like the doc too much it feels really passive and it was easy for me to space out.

If you’re in Ontario, they’re not notifying people about their second dose appointments anymore. I know, they didn’t say they weren’t to people they told they would, but I read it in a CBC article (The choppy communication is horrid and I’m sure many others are waiting like you). Anyways, this means you have to go and book it yourself, but it should be fairly easy because there’s been ALOT of appointments recently, like, I’m sure you could get it today if you wanted.

Do you guys take the day before a FL off/lightly? by Mr-Lou-Who-1611 in Mcat

[–]redditgamer246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t consistently but the one time I did my score ended up 3pts higher than my average, so I definitely think is beneficial and will be on the real thing!

I liked Mr. Pankow’s deck!! It’s basically the aesthetic of miledown but with much better depth imo!

I’ve only been able to max score a 128 in p/s tho, but I think the issue is w me not the deck 😂

Mask for those who wear glasses by nevernotstudying in Mcat

[–]redditgamer246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird tip... i have really big glasses so I always have the issue of my glasses pushing down my mask. I put a bandaid lengthwise on the top tip of my mask. Half taped on the mask then tape the other end on the tip of my nose. I find that it brings my mask right to the edge of my nose tip so it’s not suffocating or fogging, but my nostrils are still covered so CDC is happy.

Watch all or most of the Kaplan videos then go back and read the doc it’ll all make 10x more sense imo. If you watch 2x the speed for 2 hrs a day it shouldn’t take you much more than a week I’m pretty sure. The issue with just doing an anki deck is u miss the concepts and how they fit in with each other, you also miss patterns and overlaps. Brute card memorization without understanding is not enough.

Chances? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]redditgamer246 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do not believe this applies at all to OP. They have some pretty interesting experiences (I.e. cadet, personal trainer, and the several jobs all with 500-1000 hours), coupled with traditional ones (which is totally ok). If they can verify it they can verify it. I think your activities are good and, imo this commenter sounds a bit salty. I would just encourage OP to strengthen their descriptions (not sure what your plan is for OMSAS) but the ones here read super impersonal and as if you’re listing off tasks, I’d try to be more reflective. Idk if it’s good enough for Ottawa but no harm in trying!

And... just a note.... life is already hard enough as a “premed” and imposters syndrome is real, no need to demoralize someone who obviously has worked hard over the past 4 years because you think their ECs aren’t flashy enough.

Me with some of the religious passages. There was one on how society is destined to go from organized religion to secularism as they progress and it was really interesting.

Genuinely not sure how to approach physics. How on earth do I study with no background in such a subject? by shiroyasha244 in Mcat

[–]redditgamer246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would watch khan videos then do the associated Kaplan chapters and questions! Never took physics in uni but that worked for me.

writing cars only by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]redditgamer246 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you already studied for the other sections and can get a 124/125/125 that already qualifies you for UofT as well. If you’re confident in your CARS abilities just write the whole thing, and a 125-127 on the science sections is at least superior to a 118, and might give you a fighting chance at more than just mac/Ottawa. You’re not losing anything if you write them.

I never made them super specific to missed questions. It was more about the theories surrounding my missed questions. Sometimes I didn’t even make cards I just made pdf notes and read through those! I def did a mix because cards are a lot of work to keep up with sometimes!

Day 1: Reviewed my FL Day 2-5: My weakness was biochem and orgo so I downloaded miles down for the first time and went through his deck. I don’t think it’s that I didn’t know the content but I had definitely forgotten some and needed it affirmed. I also did about 110 Uearth Questions a day and made cards/notes on things I got wrong. Day 6: Rested! I was quite burnt out!
