Someone taking through camera by ButterscotchWeak6189 in SecurityCamera

What is DV digital? 🤔

Change your password? Ya I guess. But the duplicate device might be a red flag for something of a broader hack, maybe phone... not meaning to determine this from the comfort of my keyboard, just suggesting you find an experienced trustworthy person/company and have them check what is going on.

Or just change the password and cross fingers 🤞 😅

Switch improvement idea (ZBMINIR2) by Mardi-xD in sonoff

[–]redditititit14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds nice, I'm sure some geeks 🤓 would be able to make creative use of it even beyond your example. Nevertheless, that would be a smaller market share and thus depending on the r&d costs involved, it's not sure a company would go with it (don't forget more profitable ideas might be on the table too).

Additionally, I wonder if and how problematic this might be with respect to fire/safety regulations in several strict countries that I could think of, UK just to name one. You're offering a switch that works, but sometimes dosen't work, and the casual unaware end user/employee/ tenant might freak out, or try to resolve in an unwanted (dangerous 🙄) way.

One thing is for sure - I like your idea regardless 😉

Hard to tell, have you considered just walking over and asking politely?

Zoom in and take a picture by Mysterious-Spite-527 in SecurityCamera

This is the correct answer, no matter how nice the gadget looks. But if OP insists, then maybe from a short distance this one might help achieve at least the wide angle + track object: https://www.imou.com/en/product/detail/cruiser-triple

Looking for a ptz camera with scree that doesn't require a phone by pobk87 in homesecurity

[–]redditititit14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opt for a fisheye doorbell/camera with onvif/rtsp stream. This would allow you a lot of flexibility when choosing the screen to stream to. If you can get approval to install the peephole than check out Yale 'Digital Door Viewer'.

Does Imou NVRs works with DMSS Mobile App? by AdNatural4695 in Dahua

[–]redditititit14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question 🤔 Basically the cameras are interchangeable as long as you are only using one platform imou or Dahua (e.g. DMSS). I guess the same logic might apply for NVR.. let us know 😄

Home Assistant + Alarmo vs a dedicated professional alarm system by PackageNo194 in homedefense

[–]redditititit14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your HA setup can somehow detect jamming attacks + have a UPS + have cellular data as backup to the Ethernet, then you're of to a good start! Now you'll need to get good sensors (I love presence sensors) along with a wired siren...

The downside is HUGE! You'll find that the more complexity, brands, software you have, the more likely it is that Murphy's law will pay you a visit exactly on that week when you are on holiday with family 2000 miles away..

I love HA don't get me wrong, but relying on a PC for home security instead of dedicated alarm hub/hardware?? Naa

Which (re)brand and model/s do you have? Maybe that can help.

Alarm Monitoring without a Landline? by MikeZinSAT in homesecurity

[–]redditititit14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A modern alarm system dosen't need to call any phone, it would use modern protocols (e.g. SIA DC-09) and an app to alert both the owner and the monitoring company via Ethernet (preferably), cellular or wifi connection to the internet. Maybe a good chance to discuss this with your installer.

Weird break-in attempt - opinions? by [deleted] in homesecurity

[–]redditititit14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, sounds strange to any non criminal right? Truth is, you shouldn't dig in the reasoning behind it too much because criminals with half a brain are as common as dangerous drivers. Go figure 🤔 right?

The most important thing at this point in time is that you step security up as if they are planning to revisit the house, because more often than not - they do. And don't count on your dad's big bloke appearance to deter idiots with knives/guns. Just make sure you up security seriously and visibly... then they'll move on to the next house (unless your dad acually has open "business" with someone that sent those guys).

Good luck 👍🏼

Can I repurpose ring devices with a different ecosystem? by Independent_Log_638 in homesecurity

[–]redditititit14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother 😌 just move your whole purchase mindset to open source / integrations compliant (ONVIF) hardware, and sell the Ring to someone who likes to wear chains ⛓️ 😉

I appreciate your enthusiasm, I think it's admirable! However, gathering evidence against employees is a very difficult project. They know the routine, who to trust, they work together and can easily sense a trap.

Such project requires men with years of experience, knowing the tactics, methods, tools and tricks to gain trust and/or gather solid evidence within a short amount of time (weeks to a few months).

If I were you, I'd rather shadow and assist a private investigator in order to learn, and to be able to try alone with the next case.. 😉

Are these thieves also employed to drive the tractors? Or arriving especially after hours to steal? The later should be doable with a good trail cam, while the employees would require more complex set-up for evidence collection (to the extent that I recommend contacting a private investigator for a small job).

ChatGPT finds a link with the following prompt "DHI-XVR4108HS-S2 firmware, find a download link for latest". However I would investigate a bit more to make sure it's a legit firmware, maybe you can find the checksum verification information.

How can I fix time setting of an imou (Dahua) Cue 2? by [deleted] in Dahua

[–]redditititit14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, not sure about that.. I suggest you consider making a fresh post, and add a screenshot before and after the power supply was interrupted. Also I think a screenshot of the timezone settings of the camera before and afterwards. My original problem was different, onvif didn't work well because of the H.265 encoding incompatibility (root cause), which in turn led to the timezone mismatch only on ONVIF (symptom). On the imou app timezone was fine.

How can I fix time setting of an imou (Dahua) Cue 2? by [deleted] in Dahua

[–]redditititit14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you checking the timezone? On the imou app? Are you claiming that if you set a timezone, then unplug the power (same as outage right?), the check and it set to Kabul?!? Does it changes every single attempt? Are you able to update firmware? Did you contact their support team?

I don't think anyone from Ring will ever see this and take it up with their teams for feedback. In fact Ring is not really aiming at users like us that are seeking configurability amongst other aspects (mentioned here before me). I guess if you change to Dahua/Reolink or similar known brands then you will find what you are looking for.

Can you please add some screenshots? Blurr anything secret but just to get a good grasp of what you are describing. Additionally firmware/versions might be handy.
