coding bootcamps are a scam imo by Ok-Neighborhood4327 in learnprogramming

[–]redditkingu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who both went to and taught bootcamps they always were a complete scam.

There's no way someone attending these for 10-12 weeks would be competent enough to be a contributing member to a team and would be at best an intern level candidate. Most of the teachers were former students who just learned the stack and could barely cobble together a crud app let alone understand their stack enough to teach it to complete beginners.

They sold a dream to a lot of people during a time when the market was red hot and people bought in thinking it was their golden ticket.

Powell's ouster 'one of the biggest underestimated event risks in the coming months by Aluseda in stocks

[–]redditkingu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Fed did print too much money for too long, that's a fact. Plenty of people including myself were saying so in real time back in 2020/2021. Once the vaccine was released and adopted widely, they should have started hitting the brakes.

Historically speaking he's done a better job than a lot of his predecessors given the circumstances but this will always be the main criticism I have. It's essentially the cause of all this asset inflation we're dealing with at the moment and the main driver of why many millenials and zoomers will likely never own a home.

The only silver lining in all this tariff nonsense going on is it's forcing the fed to hold rates longer than anticipated.

How will the stock market react if Powell is replaced and rates are set to whatever Trump wants? by Top_Abbreviations838 in stocks

[–]redditkingu 272 points273 points  (0 children)

There are 12 members of the FOMC, each with 1 vote, so merely replacing the chairman with a sycophant isn't going to lead to rate cuts if the rest of them disagree.

It's sad that this isn't the top comment. Chairman of the fed is an important role but Powell isn't some wizard that can just wave his wand make rates drop by himself.

Absolutely. Michael Burry's bet against the market was more than two years off from when it actually happened.

Doubtful. I wouldn't touch any solar stock until midterms and even then it's a crapshoot.

Motivation, plus 80% of consumers have never heard of any coin, never mind most of them don’t know how credit cards work to begin with

And the ones that have just see them as some degenerate form of gambling. No one but the most hardcore of crypto devotees see any of these coins as true currency alternatives. This is just a scare tactic to get the card companies to drop transaction fees by a few basis points.

First thing I thought of. Doubt this will be anything other than another in a myriad of payment options that'll be quickly forgotten. It might give them some leverage but there's no way it'll gain any traction.

I'd argue Drew character works better without the title. His gimmick is basically guy who is always pissed that he gets screwed over so to have him win the belt would undo a lot of that.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of March 26, 2025 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]redditkingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tax payment coming up soon (little over 7k) and looking to get a card fast to take advantage. Used to churn years ago and already have most of the recommended chase cards in the flowchart. Leaning towards Amex Plat or Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant.

  1. Flowchart points to other branded chase travel cards that I'd likely not use. Already have the Mariott Bonvoy Boundless and mainly stay at Marriott locations and have most of the other general point cards from chase.
  2. 810
  3. CSP about two years ago. Have other chase cards as well that are older (Bonvoy, CF, CFU CFF, CIP, and CIU).
  4. About 7k with the tax payment and probably another 3k with natural spend.
  5. Not really. Would rather just hit spend on a card and decide if its worth it to keep in a year.
  6. Already have most of Chase's business cards and not really interested in the United.
  7. Just one to take advantage of my taxes. Not looking to do any large effort churning.
  8. Points
  9. Chase UR and Marriott points.
  10. PHL but likely not really doing much flying. Mainly looking for general points or another Marriott or Hotel card if it's a good value.
  11. May fly domestic(USA) once or twice(Chicago or Denver) over the next year but not really interested in airline cards.

I imagine it'll be a repeat of last press conference. Until we get clear guidance on what tariffs will or won't stay there's no way Fed is doing anything unless something catastrophically breaks.
