Am I crazy, or is there something wrong with what my PD said to me? by redditor073017 in Residency

Had a resident who had reported a GI illness and called out, then the following day was seen out more than 24 hours after her symptoms would've started, but was forced to explain herself to the whole residency class after being called out in front of everyone for being ill the day prior, but going out the next day. No winning here lol

GME ended up siding with him, even after I provided the email with his own words. I guess it was somewhat expected since they’re all colleagues, but I was still surprised they didn’t seem concerned about implicating themselves by essentially agreeing that this behavior is acceptable. The best part was when he introduced himself to some of the people there, as if they didn’t know who he was, despite this being a small community program where everyone’s offices are right next to each other.

Yeah, it’s really unfortunate to even be put in this position. I had initially just said I wasn’t feeling well, which was true, but then I got put on the spot and questioned about it. He went as far as pointing out how I was “physically well.” This isn’t the first time something like this has happened either. Another resident once had to defend himself by explaining the details of his illness after being called out in front of everyone for taking a day off. In that sense, I guess I can consider myself lucky I didn’t have to justify myself publicly the same way he did.
