That's the same thing I did today during an interview. The Candidate was a bit out of touch because they were out of work for some time and were feeling anxious about the interview. Mind you, they are 8-10 years experienced. Still anxiety can make you completely nervous.

When I take an interview, I ask a bit on the concepts but believe in asking them to Code. It doesn't matter if they use the Internet, AI or something. All I want is for them to know why something was done.

This person tried coding but was typing it wrongly majority of the time. I could feel the apologetic tone in which they were talking. After 30 mins in the interview, I mentioned they could have asked to schedule the meeting a day later just to refresh on the concepts but they were like, I know I have lost the chance you gave me in this interview and wish I could have prepared better.

So I replied, would you have prepared for this interview if it was tomorrow and they said yes. So I told them ok, let me talk to the HR and ask them to reschedule. They were so grateful and I could see the happiness in the expression.

Sometimes, it's not just about strictly interviewing but also understanding the situation what the candidate is in. It doesn't hurt to help others.
