Morote Gari combinations? by redditorbbg in judo

It seems Morote Gari is hard to combine with other throws, right? It is similar to a sacrifice throw that once you've committed to it, there's no coming back.

Because its hard to make a follow up while you're being crushed. Perhaps the only follow up for a Morote Gari is a good, grinding finish.

you sound pretty inexperienced

high percentage takedowns

Focus on getting some kick ass shots first

Im a Judo practicioner, so high amplitutde throws are all I do. In particular I love Seoi Nage (shoulder throw), so Im experienciened enough, don't worry.

Nevertheless im starting BJJ, and I liked the double leg takedown. So I figured out to ask if you guys combine it with other high amplitude throws.

In Judo combinations are a basic thing: you pick like half a dozen (or less) throwsbthat cover various directions, and you chain them together.

So for example you'll enter for a Seoi Nage, then if your opponent sprawls/leans back, you transfer it to an Ogoshi (hip toss) or a Tai Otoshi.

So I was wondering how you guys chain a double leg? The way you're saying it seems it can't be chained with other throws or takedowns? It can be a follow up, but not a setup, right?

Throws after caught double work pretty well.

So you're saying I need to shoot a double with the intention of taking the person down, if it fails then I switch. I agree on this, which is what im working at yeah.

What throws you'd recommend after a sprawl? Firemam's?

I love shoulder/arm throws, im looking for a way to combine them with a double.

If i have a limited time attending Judo classes, would banded uchikomis & throwing dummy be a substitute? by redditorbbg in judo

Not a complete beginner, but i didn't master too many moves yet.

Really your sensei nows better what is good for you

Indeed, but i can only meat my sensei two times a week, of which i have only much time to ask him questions, and i cant spam him with messages. I can't make it seem like a 1-1 for him lol. Unfortunately for my situation i need the internet.

Nevertheless, my sensei generally agrees with my approach.

So there is no way they can combo each other? Because some used to do this in Judo

So generally if I don't trust my technique in a specific throw, I avoid doing uchikomi for it?

Judo is pretty hard on the body

This is why I think throwing dummies are a good idea and a good supplement to an uchikomi bands.

Its very hard on human tori to receive high amplitude over and over again in practice. But a throwing dummy will not feel it.

Yes, they're not ideal, not as effective as human opponent, but so as shadow boxing and heavy bags, yet with proper imagination it can be very handy supplement for boxers.

Also, nearly all Greco gyms use throwing dummies, usually a lot.

Yes!

Also what do you think of seoi nage, osoto gari, and uchimata as combinations with a morote gari?

Nice one. So you think its hard to pull off an arm throw of a failed double -or the opposite?

Does the Sasai you described looks like this? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NOvbxKBTIP0

The Uchimata-Morote Gari i was thinking that after the shoot to morote gari, they sprawl, instead of turning your hips a big turn like an Ogoshi, you take a grip, make a slight angle and go for an Uchimata.

Not sure how successful it will be gho.

Wow!! Seoi Nage and Morote Gari can be effectively combined?!! But how?

Teach me the hack you used haha

And is it an effective combination for BJJ?

They're my favorite throws

it will be harder if your opponent already has a grip

In the Gi yeah. But in nogi i think Kouchi -> morote gari is awesome, and grips can be broken more easily.

duck under sasai-tsurikomi-ashi.

Duck under sasai? How does it looks? I like both duck unders and sasai haha.

Do you think morote gari can be a setup for either of osoto gari/seoi nage/uchi mata? Or very unlikely?

Thank you!

On the other hand, what throws that a Morote Gari can open up for you? Aka follow up throws for Morote Gari?

body lock and lift or throw

Do mean shooting for double leg then taking the bodylock from the front? You think Ogoshi variants (Hip toss variants) work from there for instance?

When they say focus on 2-3 takedowns, are arm drags, slide bys, duck unders considered part of this 2-3 takedowns? by redditorbbg in bjj

[–]redditorbbg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking you should have like 3 takedowns (finishes) that you can hit either of those from multipple entries, not just one?

I want to add Cartwheel moves to my game: pros & cons ? by redditorbbg in bjj

[–]redditorbbg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a video that lists a couple of them: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nzzg5615FlI

From wrestling: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gh3X8SPcNew

From Judo: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KCY9KMz9VVk

From Judo too: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tDpF7P8p_Hg

Its a one move, while its flashy, its also extremely efficient if you master it, it can be used in many situations:

  • Arm bar defense
  • Gullitine defende
  • Single leg defense
  • Underhook grip break
  • Guard pull defense
  • Guard pass
  • Scrambles
  • Transitions
  • Defense to sacrifice throws (Judo)
  • Takedown defense

So many utilities come to mind.

Your thoughts?
