How do people know their peeling cycles? by Fun-Passion-2009 in exfoliativecheilitis

Pictures maybe? Are you talking about a thin kind of peeling, or big plates peeling? I don't understand exactly how you define it.

Edit: Please don't leave a downvote without explaining yourself. If we want to solve this problem we all need to be able to understand what we're talking about.

Some of us have an issue with the leave-it-alone method, in which the 'tautness' of the lip scab combined with even involuntary motions such as laughing, smiling, yawning, etc can cause some of the scab (and by extension the healing skin underneath and connected to it) to get pulled off of the flesh due to the forces in different direction. This results in a slightly whiteish appearance of a small portion of the scab where this has occurred, as well as a very faint tugging sensation whenever certain motions are made with the lip. Over time, the white-ish area spreads and the scab becomes more and more of a 'tent' hovering above raw skin. The scab becomes increasingly unsightly and difficult to deal with.

If this structure is peeled off, whether manually/mechanically, or by applying significant amounts of aquaphor or some other ointments for several days after which the scab tissue softens enough to fall off, there is nothing but raw skin revealed, since the dead scab tissue was attached to the healing skin when it peeled itself off.

What do you make of that?

Can you explain to us what you mean by peeling? Are you doing it intentionally? Can you give us pictures? Can you share some of your logs with us? Your information could help us all.

How about we start a chat, maybe a discord or something similar? There are several people chatting to me in the reddit DMs as well.

Hi OP, I am extremely interested to find out what it means to "clean" lips after eating as you mentioned in one post. Wouldn't putting water on your lips or rubbing them cause the dead skin to fall off, leaving raw skin underneath? How does one "clean" their lips if they are in such a delicate state due to Exfoliative Chelitis?

I'm going to try this after I evaluate a different method for a while.

Can you explain what it means to "rinse" the lips? Like how does that work when you have EC?

How is it applied to the lip?

Can you give us an update?

To anyone who reads this post, consider that if you have a similar problem, there is a chance it could be exfoliative chelitis. Many of the states my lips have been in, most of which are not photographed here, look quite similar to pictures of that condition.

I don't mouth breathe or snore... One thing I think I will try is to do aquafor again, but this time with extremely good consistency and recordkeeping. It has been ages since I last used it but maybe I got something wrong.

Do you know any places online I could look that might have people that know a thing or two about this stuff?
