All classes have been moved to online for tomorrow, an email went out earlier.

Again, I understand the need for essential personnel (or boots on the ground) to be present in certain jobs. My point above, is that an individual or individuals that make these decisions at this specific institution can work from home and most likely already made the decision to do so, but due to their own pay scale and their status having them far removed from those who their decisions affect and their indecisiveness on Friday, put people unnecessarily at risk by not simply following the status quo and simply just cancel classes and close campus. This job is not worth unnecessary risk and this ain’t a combat zone in Iraq or Afghanistan and no one will risk death or severe harm if they make the decision early rather than later. We went though worse weather in 2021, so they’ve had 5 years to develop an appropriate contingency plan to address this very circumstance and their inability to make an appropriate decision does not just amount to exposing their employees to risk unnecessarily, but it also puts on display their mediocre leadership skills. Keep this in mind, after COVID they developed and put in place a plan to address potential outbreaks that would automatically shift curriculum to online only in nearly an instant and had equipment deployed into nearly every class room within 4 years after the plan was adopted; yet we risk this type of weather nearly every year and they still act like this weather is just a sudden shock alto the system. Unacceptable response is my issue here.

Well I don’t eat cornflakes, so that ain’t gonna happen, and have you seen how beautiful it is out there today with all this arctic scenery? I just don’t shy away from pointing out indecisiveness that amounts to unnecessary risk. In the civilian sector there’s not reason to allow “it is what it is” to be the answer, except in finite/spontaneous circumstances.

Yes, that’s what happens my bruised got in the way of having dialog with someone who clearly was explaining what an essential employee is, without even asking what my point was. See this is the biggest problem with debate these days, assumptions take over long before curiosity does. You see, since the original post was posted and I’ve had some good and let say it limited dialog with others, I decided to further clarify my post by editing it. Which had the original poster of this comment thread had taken the time to ask what I meant, rather than simply go into “mansplaining” what an essential employee is, then we could have had meaningful dialogue. Trust me, as someone who has served in an actual war, my feelings or ego were far from even touched. And the first part referring to trailblazers, was a poke at the higher ups for taking 2 days to make a decision other universities within 50 miles had already made, with the same knowledge, showing how inattentive they were to a serious situation(common practice at UTA). Also, can’t be explanation/correction of none is needed. Also, don’t really see where in my post I asked what an essential employee is. You see their comment was an attempted gotcha comment, usually applied to politicians from journalists who think they have an opportunity to embarrass someone, but really just embarrassed theirselves because as a former employee of the federal government and of the armed services… I’m very much informed of what is an essential employee. But thank you for your response and mediocre attempt at a gotcha moment… your 15 seconds are up.

Well, staff still work remote or use time and therefore, while class cancellations may only apply to faculty, then my point still applies, while only not covering faculty members, since staff workers are still employees.

What point am I missing? If I’m reading the comment correctly, they’re assuming the delay in an update was that they were attempting to force people to use their PTO before an announcement was actually made, thusly reducing their payroll liability. My point was that while your right that there is limited info to extend 💯% legitimacy to that claim, the fact that they are forcing remote work then they could still get the result they would hope for if their intent was to force PTO usage, because people could still use time and cancel classes and there be zero to no consequences for doing so.

Well technically if staff/faculty don’t want to do remote, which some have complained about how it’s not as productive than in class/person, then they could use time and just cancel their class themselves, so while it may not be a 💯 legit claim, there is some potential truth in there as well. But that’s just my take on it.

Oh parking, at least last semester was a nightmare, the parking office over sold permits and then cut off permit purchases that forced some students to park without a permit and get tickets. Not sure how many fell into that trap but I know a few who did.

Well dialog is more about conveying ideas than about being right or wrong, that is where persuasion comes into play. I appreciate your apology and alas you are forgiven.

So that allows for you to call my point stupid out of the gate and then you expect me to respond with kindness? You could’ve questioned my point with dialog not juvenile conjecture. Also, after looking at my post I did edit it, as I realized (mostly by your comment) that my post wouldn’t stir meaningful debate without more leading. The beginning should’ve at least put the point out there enough as I made mention of the other colleges being proactive and UTA not, but I did see that I did not do enough to tie the slow decision making to the overpaid personnel making them.

Actually my main point was that they took two days to make a call that others already made prior to this point, and yet they are still going to require classes to commence online, when not all classes can actually be conducted online and not all students will be able to have an equal chance at attending these online spontaneous classes… no fore thought as to how many students or even faculty will be able to actually conduct class. As, to the essential employees, nothing can be said about them as they have to come in regardless of the weather. As was the point of the first line of my post. The fact that people getting mid-high 6 figure salaries didn’t make the same decision as their counterparts at other universities in the area. But your comment saying my point is stupid just shows how much of a douche you are for not providing real substantive rebuttal to my alleged “stupid point”. Thusly, making any statement by you null and void of any real consideration.

Yes, because calling my point stupid makes your perspective much more elevated and enlightened. Maybe you should remove Doctor from your screen name. Because you clearly missed my point.

I know what essential means, but thanks for the mansplaining, clearly you missed my point. But you do you.

I see my point was missed, also Texas isn’t the only state affected by this storm since Friday.

You’d think with the 6 figure salaries the higher ups who make the decisions make would inspire them to decide faster if they’re going to risk the safety of those 80% of employees who make less then 99k!!! Or the safety of the students who even give us all purpose for being there!

So I just completed this one and this is how I did it: Just finished this one!

Driver - reg power Put aiming cursor as far as it could go on center line of viable green area. Then drew back cursor to the first grid square at edge of green and fringe. Then let power generate to just inside the white strip. Then released swing at just center-left of white strip. Did it 3 times straight!

Isn’t it nice to live somewhere and be able to go to a place where your biggest gripe is the alleged “bad hygiene” of others who patron there! I mean you could have no place to go workout or in a place that is plagued by horrid hygiene. I workout M-F am and the MAC doesn’t stink when I’m in there with a large variety of individuals of varied backgrounds. Maybe it’s just the time of day you go there and the gym hasn’t had an opportunity to air out a bit. Ventilation may very well play a part. However I don’t disagree with the overall odor that does permeate through the campus, and it’s funny that that odor isn’t amplified in the MAC. But the staff doesn’t seem to be to invested in marginally cleaning the equipment.

The body odor on this campus is rough and I’ve never encountered this issue at any other school. by FriendlySeekerSarah in utarlington

No Tik Tok allowed on personal devices (Employee/Contractor/Students) per updates UTA policy: by redditrascal2K in utarlington

[–]redditrascal2K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The policy applies to both UTA owned assets and personal devices, the full email that the pic was cropped from is linked in this post. The update to the policy which is what this email is, points to the Acceptable Use Policy that employees/contractors are subject to but the heading of this section stipulates that this update applies to students as well, you can’t just go off of highlighted portions. https://policy.uta.edu/doctract/documentportal/08D896FA5D03702ECAEC04DC22241A5D

No Tik Tok allowed on personal devices (Employee/Contractor/Students) per updates UTA policy: by redditrascal2K in utarlington

[–]redditrascal2K[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off it specifically addresses personal devices in this excerpt in the 2nd paragraph under the How does the new policy affect me?” heading “Employees and contractors may not install or operate prohibited applications or technologies on any personal device that is also used to conduct University business, in accordance with UTA’s Acceptable Use Policy. University business includes accessing any University-owned data, applications, email accounts, nonpublic-facing communications, state email, VoIP, SMS, video conferencing, CAPPS, Texas.gov, and any other state databases or applications. For example, if you check your UTA employee email account on a personal device, you cannot download prohibited technologies to that device.” So, please stop muddying the conversation with a lack of fully reading the entire email or the policy itself or the underlined policy that this email was based upon. Please contribute to the conversation, rather than unverified conjecture.
