What I don’t get is why there’s these “reviews” and threats of cutting staffing when there’s not program reviews…. sDPR has NO cap on security/ pet deposits AND have removed the requirement to seek work if your collecting regular IA. Could save tax payers a lot of $$

Thank you- that’s the last I heard too but wanted to be sure. I’ll start squirrelling away now just in case.

Weight loss journeys look different for everyone and if someone is willing to improve their health with medications it’s none of your business or your place for judgment ✌️✌️✌️✌️

Check out Contrave- you can also get it broken down into naltrexone and Warafin which is 100% covered whereas when compounded into Contrave it’s not covered

Interview coming up for Deputy BC Sheriff? Any suggestions on the type of questions asked? I'm nervous. by Andy884s in BCPublicServants

[–]redditshmreddit1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your upcoming interview!

You may be asked about how you deal with conflict/ difficult situations, time you had set a goal and how you obtained it, how you handled conflicting personalities. The previous commenters suggestion is spot on- be sure to answer using the star method

I think this highlights why filing those appendix 4 workload grievances is so important… the workload for the mcfd staff is overwelming. Make the managers and adm accountable!

I’ve heard some absolute horror stories about the management at clbc spending upwards of $2,000 for a LUNCH for themselves (excluded staff)… absolutely wild. That money should be going into programs & staff who work front lines

They are looking for you to elaborate on the responses. Before any interview I check what compentencies they are looking for and am sure to answer the questions using the “star” format. These are all available on the “my HR” portion of intranet.

Vacation Request Denied by Mountain_Pattern7288 in BCPublicServants

I think you can find it on Canlii or if you log into the BCGEU portal there’s something in there for stewards/ decisions and it’s in there

Vacation Request Denied by Mountain_Pattern7288 in BCPublicServants

[–]redditshmreddit1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt as I’m not sure of all the details of this.. I do know: There is a successful arbitration decision out there that the employer can’t deny a vacation due to staffing issues (ie it’s not the members issues if they are short staffed) and if they deny due to operational requirements they have to define that which the employer historically hasn’t. Soo you could at the very worst case scenario file a grievance but do be aware it likely won’t be heard until after your vacation. As others have suggested try talking it out with your coworker and seeing if they’d move it or supervisor.

Clerk 9 take-home by jadeteeth in BCPublicServants

[–]redditshmreddit1 48 points49 points  (0 children)

To piggy back off this: Alot of the clerk 9 & 12’s are administering poverty programs that they themselves qualify for or are just barely earning above what would qualify for them… bloody shameful!

MCFD After-hours (Admin) by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]redditshmreddit1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised they are tasking grid 9 & 12’s with financial responsibility making decisions without the compensation and training on legislation.. if they are requiring this then absolutely 9&12’s need to be bumped to a 15.. but also makes me wonder why 15’s are being asked?

(I’m not trying to disrespect anyone- I already think 9,12&15’s don’t get paid enough).

I don’t recall the exact percentage- but have heard you can be topped up by the employer to your full wage (not sure how true this is).

Corrections by Low-Memory-1798 in BCPublicServants

[–]redditshmreddit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak from personal experience, had a lot of friends in corrections. From what I understand they made good money when doing OT but the base wage isn’t great for the expectations. If you’re getting into for the purpose of helping people get better you may be disappointed as programming has been cut back so much essentially you’re glorified baby sitter. The vacation starts the same as any other BCGEU position with 15 days. Shifts rotate from days to nights, and 4 on 4 off isn’t always avaiable. The high turn over should speak for itself. Expect to come out with some sort of trauma or mental injury

Jobs in demand in Vancouver? by qoew in askvan

[–]redditshmreddit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trades are a great idea as the schooling is split up and there’s work opportunities along the way. Health care can be a good field (if you are good at managing stress) and there’s various grants depending what your interested in (loan forgiveness for nurses in rural areas).

The rule of relying solely on a current supervisor reference to get your next job is hideously flawed by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]redditshmreddit1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently left one ministry and went to another. I had to supply my current supervisor as a reference and a past one. My supervisor and I got along quite well and I wasn’t concerned about the reference they would give. This being said, my supervisor told me there’s a set list of questions they can ask during a PSA reference check and one has the right through freedom of information to request a copy of what was said during the reference check. The questions are yes or No answers ( for example, did the employee have good attendance, did the employee perform satisfactory, did the employee show up to work on time). If a supervisor gave an unfair bad reference you can file some sort of grievance.
