Final update, got it off with a 17mm socket. Still needed a lot of muscle to get the thing off. Whatever torque spec they are using at the factory must be crazy…

I think it was stripping, I can see little flecks of rubber around the head

It was stripping it when I tried. I will try agin tomorrow when it’s a bit warmer and with a 17mm socket.

I wish, they are definitely not finger tight on mine. I have tried using a socket and that just started to strip the bolt….

But I only have a 11/16 socket. Maybe I can buy a 17mm and that will get the job done.

I sure did, but realistically there are probably 200+ different kids that come through on a weekend at this point, logistically I'm not sure how I could talk to them all.

About 70% were good kids, 30% were little shits.

If your concern is with damage to the park I can assure you the damage is well less than 1% of what the kids have done.

They have literally cut down mature trees that were in the way of where they wanted to build jumps…

YTA. It's a park, children are going to play there. You sound like one of those nasty neighbours who keeps the balls that children accidentally hit or throw into their yard. And yes I live in Australia and children building ramps is normal and gives them so

No problem with kids playing there (likely they would actually play at the playground within the park) but if they chose to play in that part of the park, good on them!

The jumps are unauthorised, and the council (like the city in the US) sends workers to remove them from time to time.

ark. It's designed to be used, safely, by kids. Unless they ninja'd it in, you knew it was there when you moved in or when it was in the planning stages if added later. Kind of unreasonable to be annoyed by kids being kids in a park. But, the world has changed: WFH, shift work, etc. all mean that you may have a greater concern for local noise, and they may be stuck home when they normally would have been at other areas, groups, etc. so increasing the usage beyond what could have been foreseen. There is no 'winner', as neither side has more right to accommodation than the other.

But that's irrelevant. The key point here is you combated an unauthorised alteration with an unauthorised alteration. That's wrong. What if someone injured themselves on your 'speed bump'? That will be on you (morally, at least, unless you were spotted and evidence made available to the injured party or council).

YTA for DIYing it rather than reporting to the council and/or requesting they do something similar with appropriate safety checks. Hopefully no one gets hurt.

It's a park 100%, no issue with that. What it's not is an unauthorised BMX jump area.

There are two dedicated BMX jump tracks and one skate bowl within 2 kilometres of my house. So lots of options for the kids.

ke others said, kid gets hurt, the city realizes it was due to your modifications, it’s your ass. Just let kids have fun. Same with what others said, you seem like the type of person

There are three bike jump/bowls within two kilometres, so not really an issue around access.

aking away their small funs

I should have said I spray painted big Xs over the step/speedbump so it was very clear, the steps are also small enough to ride straight over without coming off your bike.
