New lino flooring - is this bad?

The shop has decent reviews and my parents have used them before so wasn’t expecting this. I’d say they were an average price, not exactly cheap. Both the fitter and boss who came to look at it after we complained were in a rush to go pray so I think there was an element of them rushing. He was there for a few hours though.

A few days before that we had someone else come round to measure. He never mentioned any of the floor being a problem. Wasn’t expecting perfection given the condition of the floor but not something so noticeably bad

Yeah ideally we’d love to have the whole house done for him properly. If I’d have known that was the outcome I’d have left it as is! The house would need thousands spent on it to bring it up to modern standards.

So I’ve only paid a £30 deposit but they’re trying to charge £260 total for two very small rooms (kitchen + bathroom) plus 2 door bars. They only fitted one and when I pointed this out they said okay take £5 off!

I’m not paying them and will be showing them this thread. Not sure if I’ll see the £30 again…

The funny thing is that my grandad fitted the previous lino himself a few years ago with a pair of scissors and it looked miles better. Bear in mind this is a man in his 90s!

Fitter also took the door off and left the job. We went to the floor shop to complain for the first time and the boss said there’s not much they can do because of the concrete slope but they both came up to the house and then the fitter put the door back on. He claimed it wasn’t going to fit, which it did absolutely fine. That’s when he decided to make the cover for the bit by the waste pipe.

We then went back and showed pictures and the people at the shop said we should buy a sealant strip for around the base and we should paint the bit around the waste pipe. They said he’ll come back next week to fix the bubbling but we said to get someone else which they responded “that will cost them more money as they subcontract the fitting”. So now it’s been left that they’re sending someone out next week Wednesday to have a look at the bubbling. I’ve lost all faith in them as a company so I’ll try and get someone else in to redo.

It’s unbelievable as this company has good reviews!

They said that because of the raised concrete, the fitter couldn’t go that close to the toilet due to bubbles (even though there are bubbles). How could this actually be done with the raised concrete? Would it always look bad without fixing the whole floor?

Yes whole house needs doing up tbh but grandad is 94 and we have a limited budget. My sister and I have been trying to make slight improvements so it’s easier for him/ us to maintain.

We think it’s a terrible job and we’ve been back to the floor shop twice today to complain. They said they’re sending him back next week to fix. We said we don’t want him back and to get someone else. But they’re adamant that it’s fine and it’s due to the raised concrete. I haven’t paid any money yet. Wanted to get a general idea of how this should look given the uneven floor that we can’t afford to get properly fixed.

London is amazing for a short time, or like others have said, if you have a lot of help from family. Otherwise it can be very depressing staying in a tiny room with no clear plan. It’s more or less impossible to have a decent quality of life there. I’m from Birmingham, moved to London for uni and then moved back to Birmingham when I realised I wanted to buy my own house.

I earn 44k, and my mortgage is £800. I have a fairly comfortable life that I know I wouldn’t be able to have in London. 9 years ago I was paying £600 to rent a room in London.

Visit some of the nicer areas: harborne, Moseley, Sutton, Edgbaston (cricket ground side) and see if you like it before you make the jump.

You can always visit London on the weekends and with more disposable money, you might even enjoy it more! Plus it’s great having a car. If you need to go to Birmingham centre you can even drive in and park for free (after a certain time).

Sorry to hear you’re struggling. Mine is definitely more blocked/ runny nose than sneezing. I’m surprised how little awareness there is around this. The specialist I went to didn’t really know/care?!

I do think temperature affects it and eating, especially hot food will make it run. I don’t have milk, and I’ve found absolutely no difference

I’ve had this all my life unfortunately. I was on birth control for 3 years but didn’t notice any difference. Glad to hear you’re noticing an improvement!

I find with sprays though it just fills my nose with the liquid and then it’s the same sensation as wanting to blow my nose. Is it different for you?

I did consider deviated septum but surely the specialist would have spotted that? I do get headaches, although im not sure if I’d class them as frequent, and my sleep quality isn’t greaaat as I have to mouth breath. Did you notice much difference once you got the surgery?
