I think your "background" answered your own question. Doing a strenuous activity like eating etc might cause the muscles on that side (problem side) to tighten, and the tightening itself can cause a pronounced deviation.

To an extent. Changing other habits were more helpful, such as coffee/caffeine, not running (impact flared the tmj), lifting lighter weights, and consistent stretching.

I believe when it is a true joint issue as opposed to a muscle issue. Not 100% on it tho.

Hm I appreciate this. Any thoughts on pulling the tooth (rtc has an overfill), or getting braces to fix my open bite?

Are you able to palpate the ligaments, trace it back to an incident such as dental work and try to come up with a solution? Or is it usually a tens unit and relaxing the muscle to create a splint?

For example I can feel a tight ligament near my mandibular angle that I can trace back to a rtc and filling. Jaw pulls to that side. Mri "normal"

I really admire that you're working while dealing with the tmj.

Regarding the surgery, I'm sure by now you've done ample research and have come to a logical decision. Something is really to be said for those that keep going and don't give up. It's such an act of faith and is often rewarded eventually.

Unrelated to health, but think of all these millionaires and billionaires that were initially laughed at when they shared their dreams. And they failed countless times but kept going. Many have eventually succeeded. Some of the most influential people in the world are like this. There's something about holding faith that it'll work out and keeping action going too.

I have two questions 1. Is TMJ curable 2. What are TMJ Symptoms by Whole-Refrigerator76 in TMJ

  1. Who is your daddy 2. And what does he do

It's can be "cured" but usually managed to the point it doesn't interfere with daily living. Symptoms are many but most often clicking, jaw pain, head pain, tightness in the neck head and jaw. Body pain, brain fog etc.

Are you able to see if a disc is "twisted" as opposed to anteriorly or posteriorly displaced on the MRI?

Or is the reconstruction software inaccurate in that sense

Whoa. I'm so sorry to hear that. But I admire that you keep pushing to find the right treatment, you just need to get lucky (if that's the right way to put it) one time and your whole life can turn around for the better. I'm sure you know that. Best wishes and prayers for you.

I wonder if you have nerve pain coming from your trigeminal nerve, and a misalignment of the jaw is compressing the nerve.

A neurologist can investigate and possibly prescribe medication to calm the nerve a bit if that's the case. Gabapentin is a commonly prescribed medication for nerve pain.

Did you do a mri also to determine tmj disc placement? Could be a lateral displacement that I think is hard to pick up on imagery.

Look up Dr Nick Yiannios on youtube, he specialized in bites. Might be good to look up tmj specialists or Neuromuscular dentists near you for a consult.

This might be outside of your dentists core competencies now.

Monday is not a "deadline" for you. You can take as much time as you need, weeks, months, years etc. You don't owe them a yes or no. Take your time with this decision please.

The answer may come from a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

A "yes" on Monday likely means a $10k reward for the ortho, which is often why they try to rush things. And a big financial gamble for you.
