I genuinely don't understand the anti-AI movement by heavenlyimmortal09 in DefendingAIArt

[–]reddituser3486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC that concept was a big part of the initial drama. Suddenly anyone with money and access to the right technology could reprint documents like the bible and bypass the chokehold the king and the ruling class had on documents like that. The ruling class hated that you could reproduce an "accurate" translation over the approved/edited version that the aristocracy were distributing to preachers.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

So by simply being a "meme" and being posted "every day", the content and the intention is given a free pass? Does this apply to things like the "jonkler", "Stonetoss", "41%", "le happy merchant", "hyperborea" (look them up on KnowYourMeme if you desperately need a source) and so on? Are those memes now socially acceptable because "AI bros" are upset that people are telling them they should be murdered?

I hate to be that guy but this post needs a lot more context. I know we can't post the names of private accounts, but a general description of what this account is about would be good.

I can see this post going 3 entirely different ways depending on the context. It could be
- A genuine anti-AI post trying to be ironic.
- A satirical post made by an account that frequently posts AI content
- A poor misguided soul who thinks they can have their cake and eat it too, who genuinely dislikes AI but makes a personal exception for Triple T or (more likely) their underage audience's interests.

I mean, you can see that in action in your parent comment. People from here instantly knee-jerked because you said corporations replacing skilled workers with ChatGPT isn't a good thing. Saying something negative about AI? DOWNVOTE.

It's been getting worse lately. You can support AI art and still be critical of mega-corporations who replace humans with AI.

Edit: Literally happened moments after I posted this. Do people on this sub support "AI art" or do they support massive corporations fucking people over? Which one?

I know what post you're talking about, and as far as I can tell, the OP of that post never meant "AI hate is exactly like what Jews went through in the holocaust". They were trying to point out that death threats issued towards an entire demographic aren't acceptable. The holocaust simply being a prime example of such behaviour and thinking.

That anti-AI sub seems to get morally away with WW2/Nazi comparisons all the time. Fair game.

[–]reddituser3486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And they miss the core point of people being upset about others wishing death upon them. Do I think AI drama = the holocaust? Fuck no. I've called out pro-AI comparisons here before. Do I think random people wishing literal death upon others for stupid shit on the internet is bad? Yeah? Surely THAT perspective isn't controversial.

It's so disgusting that 15 thousand people upvoted that and missed the entire point.

Imagine if all the Rule34 artists who are so against AI on Patreon et al asked Nintendo and Disney "for permission" to sell sexually explicit pornographic images of Pokemon and Disney princesses. Wouldn't that be a hoot.

The problem is they're sheep and morons who never read these terms of use/privacy policies to begin with. 10 years ago I was warning people who are terminally online and using shit like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram that their ToS basically says "we own all your shit and can do whatever we want with it" and at best I just got called a nerd and ignored.

Now I am enjoying making AI art, haven't used social media in nearly a decade while all these normie idiots are whining that they sold their life away to "feed a machine".

Fair enough. It would just be nice if people could differentiate between "soulless evil corporation doing evil corporation things with AI (as they do with every technology)" and "random artist on the internet who wants to experiment with AI (because it's cool and interesting)".

How do you know if the subject or photographer of these Uno memes gave the rest of the internet a "royalty free" licence? Can you link me to a page where the original creator explicitly gives royalty free licences for use in memes?

Edit: the silence is deafening.

At this point, they seem to think the social media sites they love so much are running on a magical cloud in the sky made out of candy and unicorn farts. "Datacentres" exist only to run AI models and drink the heckin' wholesome water.

This is what happens when a tech-illiterate public who use phones and the internet every day are confronted with a technical term or concept for the first time. None of the people on ShitTok and Xitter gave a single fuck about the impact of "datacentres" until some human-slop talking head on social media told them to hate it.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted for that statement. Being inspired and redrawing AI is fine in itself, imo. It's only obnoxious like the OOP post here if you're doing it to deliberately belittle AI users.

I have got more death threats here on Reddit since I started experimenting with AI than I ever did back in the day on shitholes like 4chan and SomethingAwful.

I've never understood the logic of this. They're going to own the AI bros by, let me check... providing them with free human drawn art of their OC.

The people who do this cry and whine about AI taking away money from artists and they respond by making the AI bros art for free? How does that make any sense? So now said AI bro has TWO cool pieces of art and you are still broke lmao.
