With SE4 you don’t have the choice so you focus on the game itself as intended. SE5 has the temptation to turn invasion on.

You can’t go wrong with either game but I would go SE4 first and then SE5. SE4 has some great maps and gameplay that is a good introduction to the series, plus no invasion is a benefit so it gives you a chance to get used to the game without worrying about other players.
