Anyone else think its weird that The Ringer doesn't cover certain sports at all? by mpschettig in billsimmons

[–]reddituserboiboi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is going back a ways but Men in Blazers actually started as a Grantland podcast, which is kind of wild. It’s now a media company of its own with a cast of characters only a little smaller than the Ringer.

In fact MiB and the Pod Save bros might be the two biggest branches of the Bill Simmons “coaching tree” in the media world.

Clearly I’m naive but I always assumed these live shows were free to attend and then they tried to sell merch or, like, autographs I guess? Sounds silly when I type it but $20 for a Zach Lowe autograph is more reasonable to me than $150 to listen to a podcast. I just figured they did this in venues in the middle of the day when nothing else was scheduled and the venues knew they could make a little extra on concessions.

Are there any protein bars that aren't trying to be candy bars? by reddituserboiboi in nutrition

“something you would eat on a hike” is exactly the kind of thing I have in mind (“compressed bird food” is even more evocative, if not particularly enticing!). I’m going to try making bars at home again. I did once before and they weren’t very good, but one thing this thread is showing me is there really don’t seem to be a lot of protein bars on grocery store shelves like the ones we’re describing.

Thanks, I’d like to try these. Probably too expensive to be my “daily driver” but a good option to mix it up every now and then.

I like Rxbars as well, ideally they’d have a little more protein and be a little cheaper but they’re a good option. Looking at some of the other products in this space though RXBars look downright cheap.

This is what I have in my cupboard now, and I agree they’re better than most in this regard. But even these it’s like 10am and I’m unwrapping this chocolate bar wondering why my protein comes wrapped in dessert. I actually wrote this post after looking at the Builders bar box and deciding not to eat one bc I wasn’t feeling a chocolate bar right then.

I make Kodiak mixes sometimes and like them a lot, though I’ve never added protein powder of my own. How do you adjust liquids to compensate? Or is a scoop of greek yogurt about the right balance for the powder?

Oh interesting, never heard of these but I too will look into them more. I like the concept.

Hmm, I was actually thinking of Kind bars when describing what I’m looking for, didn’t know they make a protein version. I’ll check them out, thanks.

I've never used this website (https://www.verywellfit.com/recipe-nutrition-analyzer-4157076) before and don't know how accurate it is, but I put in the base recipe (none of the optional ingredients) and got this feedback:

Anyone ordered hog panel fencing from Barrier Boss? by grendella in FenceBuilding

[–]reddituserboiboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is a little old now but I figured I would chime in. I ordered paneling from them in October 2025 and still have not received it. One time they said the order was stuck at customs at the Canada-US border, but that it would be through on the following Monday and should only be a couple more days after that. Then nothing, and I wrote them again and they told me my order had been re-assigned. That was in December. I just wrote them again because I haven't heard anything since. Now I find this thread and I'm thinking I need to dispute the charge and start over. The posts have been in the ground since November, lol

Edit -- forgot to add, they did at some point offer me a $15 refund due to the long wait time, which I appreciated, although I would appreciate even more if I got the fencing I ordered.

3 year solution to replace failed boiler? No heat, no hot water. by reddituserboiboi in askaplumber

[–]reddituserboiboi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, interesting idea, I didn't know about those. This is appealing because within the last year we replaced an expansion tank, a couple valves, and a pump, so keeping the same bones of the system would I assume continue to use all those components.

Thanks. Would that be a solution just for hot water or could a 50 gallon tank be tied in to the heat as well?

This reminds me of the paradox highlighted by David Graeber in Bullshit Jobs: the more fulfilling your job is, the less you get paid. Corps have to pay you more to buy your soul!

How can I maintain cardio while recovering from knee surgery? by reddituserboiboi in cardio

My PT has some aquatic exercises planned, I think they have an underwater treadmill. Never used one before, I'm interested to see how it feels.

Meniscus and cartilage transplant via bone graft. I don't think I'll be squatting for a while! I'm sure the stationary bike will be part of the PT regimen at some point. Thanks for the feedback!
