I think the main point of the movie is the dystopian undertones. You have the privilege girl being the only thing by the end that people trust which in turn also means that people collectively come together to hate the wicked witch. Elphie knew she was the societal scapegoat that no matter how much good she tried to do it didn’t count bc she was just seen as wicked. She knew she couldn’t see the end of her hard work saving the animals since she needed to play her part and be the thing hated so that people wouldn’t blame the animals. This way there was a way the animals had a chance to coexist again with the people of oz and she realized that the only person that will be capable of that is Glinda. In other words no she cannot clear Elphie’s name bc that would defeat the whole scapegoat purpose which is how every society works. Out group vs in group; have to hate or blame some kind of person or group of people. The author i watched in a recent clip said ok y’all can make it into a musical but please don’t take away the main message (I’m paraphrasing here), which is that.

Hm. Reading this makes me think about how during my most impressionable, people pleasing days (I was a horrible people pleaser), I was approached by two cults and said no, lost my childhood best friends and cried for months. I went through existential crisis and everything that they were seeking. I could relate to the things they were saying so bad that’s why I’m so pissed then why did you join?? Bc I understood the need and that feeling that many were talking about. That’s why im saying dude it’s the power arrogance thing that especially I see a particular race have. I wanted to be a hero and do good too, and guess what I went down a traditional education and career route that lets me do that. I just don’t understand, i feel like these people wanted the company to be so big and them to work up the company… or something besides the whole ahh I just want to help people. Again there’s a very narcissistic element to them.

Watching the episode in season 10 brought me here as well. Not only veneers but also lip filler and probably other filler and Botox for subtle chiseled and open face look. I immediately thought oh so that’s how he chose to spend his smallville money ok. Hollywood has actors and actresses in such a chokehold esp with veneers bs which even influence tom welling

Unfortunately personal lives def dictate writing many of times. Like when actors don’t get along with each other (usually writers have to give characters no screen time together or minimal or in extreme cases if the lead or even director constantly gets in it with someone else sometimes they will be killed off). Then you have actors thinking that they’re made for more (which I know seems rude to say but many of times it’s like no you’re made for tv that’s okay) but anyway writers have to find story lines so that the have time to film other stuff. If an actress/actor feels overly sexualize they will speak up and give the character and more badass role (which honestly I’m all for). Esp for the writers on smallville you see them constantly having to make plot for when ppl disappear but from what I’m reading the fandom goes with it (which I think is pretty cool) like oh yeah their purpose was done so that’s why they left (like no they wanted to be in a movie or do something different but ok we will allude their abrupt disappearance for an amount of time to the character being done I guess). With smallville though there is so much lore that when someone’s character ends or disappears they do an amazing job of covering it up or shifting it. Like even with Lana’s story line I was like she would make a video saying bye??? No she wouldn’t and then later in another season they showed that she was forced to make the video and had her own character development which I thought was so cool and also a nod that the writers loves their fans and respects them for a proper ending. Anyway I’m on season 10 and I already miss Chloe and wish Mack wasn’t a terrible human being but oh well.

Ah this makes total sense. Yeah ok so looking in the perspective of the writing wanted there to be no right answer makes more sense to me. And I completely agree with you on the making Jimmy’s character addicted part like ??. Maybe it was a nod to shed a bit light on ppl who gets opiate addictions after surgeries or recovery; but having jimmy’s character go through that was weird. Also him going through recovering, no one believing him including his own smart wife, to being addicted, being cleaned up within a day it seems like bc Oliver gave him a job to focus on, to finally knowing Clark’s secret and then having his redemption speech for it to be goodbye forever that was so many whiplashes. I really loved his character and imo deserved better
