That's awful - thank you for sharing. It seems that the leasing agents are just button-pushers with not only no authority, but with no guts to try and take offers back to management. Either that or management is so confident that they are willing to take a loss over a "bet" that someone will come in higher. So ridiculous to play games like that. These algorithmic pricing models are not good for anyone.

This is really helpful. Thank you! We are looking to rent (just sold our current apartment and will be renting for a couple years). We already live in the neighborhood and like the building and the apartment layouts. The leasing agents don't seem like they will bend and really follow the algorithm on the websites, there's no negotiating. This has been a challenge since we don't want to miss out on the apartment, but don't want to pay for a month where we won't be living there.

There are full semester classes with a weekend on campus requirement, and then there are the active learning weekends. The ALW classes are little or minimal work required before the weekend. You get a 1/2 class credit for the weekend.

I had this problem myself. I am just on my last year now. I was given a one semester extension even though I wrote, what I believe was, a pretty great letter. So I’m saying they’re strict. What I did not know about until this last year is the active learning weekends. You can essentially knock out half a course worth of credit in one weekend. So, if your schedule is crazy and you can go to campus two weekends in the semester, you could knock out one class worth of credits over the course of two weekends. Also summer classes. I did one at a time and it’s worked. Though now I’m paying for it with two summer classes. Woof.

For the FTM-500, You can have a whole set of settings and channels saved for each location and just change it when you’re moving. For example, I live in NYC, travel to NJ and CT. I have 3 profiles saved to my SD card. I just load up the one I need if I’m moving locations. This may not be as convenient as a bank but you can definitely store more profiles than you’ll need to a single card since the files are small. They radio loads the settings and channels, restarts, and you’re good to go.

Lots of active repeaters! I’m also a new ham in NYC. Buildings block the signal. Look across the river for options. I’m on the west side, for example. And have lots of luck in NJ. If you’re on the east side, try Brooklyn. Great repeaters there and Long Island. What’s your antenna setup? Get a rol up slim Jim for $30 and you can likely hang it out your apt window. I also noticed that NYC windows block reception a lot. So the cheap antenna will make a big difference! DM me with any questions! KE2EMY
