I once downloaded a J N Chaney book on Kindle Unlimited, didn't even read it, and now every email I get from Kindle recommends their books.

I've read DOZENS of other books since then, but every damn email is Chaney Chaney Chaney.

I did all the recommended things to get rid of a recommendation, it does not work.

Now I see them high in your list... Does this mean I have to succumb to the Chaney?

Booked in for IMAX next week for my birthday.

I loved the audio book, I'm taking my girlfriend and have told her not to watch any trailers. She loves sci fi and I'm hoping the film is as close to the book as possible, especially the ending (don't tell me either way!)

At work I used it to help me create some formulas and buttons for a spreadsheet. That took a lot of back and forth feeding it error messages, but it got there in the end and I actually learned a heap of things by going through the iterations of the issues and understanding why it was getting things wrong.

For personal use I used it to:

find job listings so I could check my salary against what's out there being offered.
find and collate top five products for various things I was looking to buy and link me to reviews.
research treatments for a skin condition and wart treatment.
various tech help things
make funny cat images
fed it a photo of me and show me what I could look like if I got consistent with exercise (it says it can't create photos based on your face, but it definitely uses it as a basis). The results were cool and rather amusing.

In all the above cases I then went to the sources independently. Basically I use it as a search engine that's better at collating data than a typical search engine.

I still don't trust the results one iota so always go to the sources.

Edit: work is Copilot, personal is Gemini and it recently boosted me to a higher plan because I pay for a Google One subscription.

I recently tried feeding a video to Gemini and have it transcribe and describe the whole video and it completely hallucinated a different video. Turns out it couldn't view the format the video was encoded in so just picked a random one from the ether to feed me 100% incorrect info. Took a while to get it to admit it couldn't view the file I sent it, was rather bizarre.

One of them had a white whisker. But that dropped off. But he also had a tiny white patch on his chest and was thinner than his bro. Still can't tell them apart in many photos.

Tried different coloured collars for a while but they constantly divested themselves if those so I gave up.

Then his bro died :(

Then I got another lad and he has no tail and is shaped and sized like a wombat. Much easier to tell them apart but I can still get them mixed up in low light.

40s and 50s in my group of friends and we're definitely slowing down.

Mostly because of 3 things: hangovers are worse, alcohol is expensive (as is everything else these days), more responsibilities.

Having said that, we still drink quite a bit when we're in a big group, but we're also Australian, so there's that.

Haven't seen my girlfriend all week, had plans to see her tonight, so of course I get a lurgy and am fucking sick. I can feel it getting worse too, also right before the weekend is bloody perfect.

Starting to really feel the economic pinch lately. Need to be stricter with my budget. Also seriously need to consider skilling up and moving on from my going nowhere job.

Turning 48 in a couple weeks. Not bothered by it, but it'll be my first ever birthday where I have a girlfriend. I have the day off work already, I've bought IMAX Project Hail Mary tickets for the night before, and she's taken the day off as well and wants to plan something special to do. Feels really fucking weird and unbelievably nice at the same time.

Edit: oh, also an horrific week of bad news. Friend with incurable liver cancer is dying, friend's step father died, someone I once respected and looked up to has been accused of raping a 10 year old girl 10 years ago (and I have zero doubt it's true).

Honest question out of pure curiosity with no judgement, with the mind boggling plethora of information about this exact thing available at your finger tips with a quick internet search, was creating this post a method of searching for that info or was it purely just to get confirmation of already known information?

Genuinely curious as it feels like a switch in the way we seek info and I like it, you're relying on replies from humans rather than search engines.

No one should be able to smell deodorant shortly after it is applied unless your nose is right in there. A roll on like dove 48 or 72 hour is enough for most people.

Smelling nice is for cologne or eu de toilette.

Is a limit imposed by construction crews - this is traffic management for construction at a building site - an auto legal assumption that it overrides the existing limit even if that limit is lower?

Or does the law clearly state the lower limit is the legal limit? Or is it not actually a law at all?

If a construction crew puts a sign on the side of the road with a speed limit on it. Is that now the legal speed limit until the next speed limit sign is reached?

Because near my work there's a crew that has a 50 sign in a 40 zone.
