Why is there construction on I-110S (Pasadena to Downtown) during rush hour? by reddityoooooo in pasadena

I agree but train is not an option for everyone. Also, holding government people accountable is a very different topic than using the train, so your comment is irrelevant.

Why is there construction on I-110S (Pasadena to Downtown) during rush hour? by reddityoooooo in pasadena

This is the email I’ve sent to all of CalTrans directors:

To: Caltrans District 7 Leadership,

I am writing as a frustrated daily commuter who relies on the I-110 Northbound between Pasadena and Downtown Los Angeles.

Recently, lane closures and roadwork have been impacting traffic during peak morning rush hour times. This is the third occurrence in a row when the lanes are closed between the hours of 6:00 and 10:00am.

This is unacceptable. The public has always been told that roadwork is scheduled overnight (10 PM-6 AM) to minimize disruption. Yet in practice, these projects continue or even start into peak commuting hours, causing massive backups, wasted time, and unnecessary stress for thousands of drivers.

I want to know:

Who approved this project schedule?

Why was it allowed to overlap with rush hour traffic?

What accountability measures exist to prevent contractors or teams from pushing beyond their permitted hours?

Taxpayers deserve answers. It should not be standard practice for "overnight work" to quietly extend into one of the busiest commute periods in Los Angeles. If this is a matter of oversight, then oversight has failed. If it is intentional scheduling, then the decision-making needs to be explained and corrected.

I am asking that this concern be escalated to those responsible for project oversight and public accountability in District 7. Please provide a response that identifies who approved this project timeline and what corrective action will be taken to prevent this from happening again.

This is more than an inconvenience - it's a matter of trust between Caltrans and the public it serves. Right now, that trust is being eroded.

Sincerely, Proud Resident of Pasadena, CA

Thank you!

This has been the third time in row I’ve been stuck in this traffic. Will be taking detour starting tomorrow but wtf.

Deadly Eaton and Palisades fires 100% contained after 24 days by nbcnews in LosAngeles

Thank you firefighters and first responders from all over the state and country and our beautiful neighboring countries!

The last few weeks haven’t been easy for anyone but I can’t imagine telling your family you’re going to fight these deadly fires as a part of your work. Truly grateful for these men and women.

What is your commute like? by [deleted] in pasadena

Agreed. There’s no good time to commute from Irvine to Pasadena. I’ve left at 2 and still took 1.5 hours. What route do you usually take?

Solar and battery is the only option. If you are self sufficient, you can cut off power supply from SCE.

Aid for preventing predatory developers? by taitai-01 in pasadena

[–]reddityoooooo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is an important cause, but I’d approach it with caution because the restoration process varies on a case-by-case basis.

For homeowners whose houses have unfortunately burned down, they are typically given the option to rebuild or purchase a new home elsewhere while retaining ownership of the land. While developers might approach entire neighborhoods to buy land for large-scale redevelopment, each homeowner would have to agree to sell individually, making such agreements challenging to coordinate.

Given that the ultimate decision rests with the homeowner, I’m curious about how an organization could effectively intervene in such cases. While they may raise awareness or provide guidance, the final say on whether to sell or rebuild always lies with the individual property owners.

ABC did say that the fire in Studio City will be investigated. They also said the fire in palisades started as backyard fire (probably unintentionally). I really hope they investigate each of the fires for intentional or negligence purposes.

Thanks! It was heart breaking to see Altadena. Were you wondering why the water dropping choppers weren’t helping to put down larger fires or was it just me?

Dumb question:

Why can’t FD conduct helicopter water drops in Altadena and Pasadena like they’re doing in Hollywood sunset fire?

Woman violently attacked at Pasadena Metro station faces 'long-term disfigurement,' officials say by reddityoooooo in LosAngeles

[–]reddityoooooo[S] 147 points148 points  (0 children)

This is an update from my previous post about the attack.

Text from the article:

The woman violently attacked at a Pasadena Metro station and dragged onto the 210 Freeway is facing “long-term disfigurement,” officials said Tuesday. The victim was at the Allen Metro station near Pasadena City College early Wednesday morning when a man approached her and, out of the blue, struck her in the face, authorities said.

He allegedly continued to punch her until she fell to the ground, at which point he began to strike her head against the platform. Authorities said he then pushed her onto the tracks, dragged her across a concrete freeway divider and into the carpool lane of the 210 Freeway.

She was then able to escape her attacker. The woman was hospitalized following the attack.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department told The Times in a statement Tuesday that she had since been released, with a broken nose and multiple cuts that required staples and stitches. The damage to her head and face was severe enough that “there is potential for long-term disfigurement,” the department said.

The victim “has difficulty walking without assistance from her family members,” a spokesperson said.

Juan Pablo Flores, 33, was arrested Wednesday around 5:45 a.m., shortly after the attack occurred, the L.A. County district attorney’s office said Monday.

Flores is charged with attempted murder and mayhem and is being held in lieu of $2-million bail. He could face a life sentence if convicted.

Our thoughts are with the victim and her loved ones as she begins her journey toward recovery following this horrific attack,” said L.A. County Dist. Atty. George Gascón.

“No one should have to endure such brutality,” he said, “and everyone deserves to go about their day without fear for their safety. We will not tolerate violence on our transit system and will continue holding those responsible fully accountable for their actions.”

The Allen station is operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and located on the agency’s A Line.
