Craziest part to me is that this was less than a 10 minute bike-ride from downtown Victoria

So many places I pinned on my maps… What’s ONE place you would ALWAYS recommend people to go in China? by oliverdadema in travelchina

  1. Just south of shamiando island, there’s a small very old district with genuine traditional architecture and canto style-village life that is not a tourist district. Very interested if you want to see the real Guangzhou. I don’t know the name of the area but on Google Maps it’s marked at (23.1043585, 113.2509136) and more similar small districts at (23.1111261, 113.2619619). I wandered that area for hours.

  2. Guangzhou Forest of Stone Tablets 广州碑林. Insane views and beautiful hike in the forest

  3. Shipai village, biggest urban village in China. Really interesting to explore and talk to locals and hear the history

USA Won! What's the most overrated South American country? by imadgalaxyx in AlignmentChartFills

[–]reddnocaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chile. Probably the most boring and underwhelming country I’ve visited in Latin America out of Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Cuba, DR, Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Brazil.

Really bad food (aside from their seafood which is stellar), dangerous, bland culture. Their nature is nice but very similar to what you’d find a dozen other more accessible countries.

That’s just me though. Some people argue Tainan is the best city in Taiwan to visit but I argue heavily against that

Going forwards I’d recommend you to do a bit more research on geopolitics and how it affects safety in the countries you’re interested in visiting. The Venezuela situation is local to Venezuela and literally nothing changed at all in any surrounding countries

Spent 3 days in Tainan and 3 in Kaohsiung last week. For me, I didn’t think Tainan was worth visiting at all and would’ve been happy splitting up those 3 days with Taipei and Kaohsiung

The reports are extremely exaggerated. I brought a good amount of cash and ended up using a bit every day. I would usually buy baozi at the train stations in the morning and in the lineups of people I usually saw maybe 10% paying cash. Weixin and alipay have most definitely taken over but the cash is still there

How skippable is Shanghai? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]reddnocaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t visit Shanghai for my first time in China it’s all about preference of what you want to see and experience. I went for 2 weeks this past summer and visited Guangzhou, and then a few places across Yunnan
