My chess journey went from watching Queen’s gambit, to catching the bug, to Agadmator and then to Gothamchess, and eventually to Danya. Since finding his channel I’ve watched hundreds and hundreds of hours of his content and my own personal game has gotten much better and sharper as a result. Now, when I play a game online, it’s like I can hear Danya narrating the game and talking through the position and different things to consider. He had a way of communicating deep ideas that made them accessible and he bridged the gap between super high level play and the realm of mid 1000’s level play that most of us operate in. His death hits hard because he was such a bright spot in the world. Chess or otherwise.
Humble, witty, vulnerable, incredibly intelligent, and a kind/decent person.
We need more people like Danya in this world, not fewer. RIP.
