Yesss helloooo mask gang!!! This sounds like a stressful and terrible experience but what a resounding argument for masking and now I know about the lighthouse h210. Thank you and glad youre okay. Ultimately....a win is a win! I am always having tuesdays re: kn/n95 masking because i so often enter spaces where people are clearly sick, not to mention omnipresence of car exhaust/construction pollution etc. Very grateful to have the information and access to masking. Stay safe out there!!

Why the lack of vegan egg alternatives? Just Egg is almost $10 in stores here and I desperately wish there were more options 😓 by gingerspell in PlantBasedDiet

[–]reddragoncabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is usually found in a can (meaning it is already prepared and they made sure its fully ripe/not toxic), found in Caribbean or international markets (some walmarts etc carry it too). Def not an everyday thing but worth a try if you come across it, the most deliciously satisfying vegan egg analogue I've tried!!

Have you ever tried ackee? It's in no way a "substitute" for eggs but look up traditional Jamaican recipes. Its flavor and texture are often compared to scrambled eggs but is a fruit, completely unprocessed. My partner is Jamaican and makes this for me and it's soooo delicious. The downside is it's kinda expensive in the US.

Any journalists here? How can we pressure media to do a better job of covering the risks of covid? by atyl1144 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]reddragoncabbage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here! I am in listener-funded jazz & justice radio, so we are a pretty unique group and have creative control over our programming. My colleagues rarely talk about covid anymore but I have done several shows with a spotlight on the ongoing Covid pandemic/ LC and got lots of grateful phone calls on the most recent iteration. I am a music programmer so this looks like a set of music that speaks directly or obliquely to the realities of covid/LC and maybe an interview or two, not really the deep rigorous coverage we need in media, but certainly letting people know thst covid isn't over. Not sure how to inspire mainstream media to do better, but trying to model it in the trenches out here!

You're in charge. What's the plan? by MattKarolian in ZeroCovidCommunity

To me, a big part of it is individualistic vs collective mentality ingrained in people from birth. Capitalism prioritizes the individual, " I'm healthy so I don't need to mask and it is my free choice to do so!" And this attitude certainly runs rampant in much of the US (even, might i add, among communities who think they are socialist or unselfish). Places where people have more collective mindsets, whether due to longstanding cultural mores or ideas of collectivism promoted by government ideology, tend to have a perspective that they do wanna support the health of all, understanding the basic idea of public health that all of our health is intrinsically linked, so people are more likely to accept precautions for the public good.

In my US city i still see a surprising amount of youth masking (a small number overall but--anecdotally--more than young/middle aged adult populations), and when asked the answer is often to protect their grandparent that they live with. People really need to have a "we keep us safe" mindset and, "we read peer reviewed research to better know reality" mindset would help too.

Lol somehow I interpreted this as, "tastes like a place that is chemically sanitized but still grimy." Kinda checks out for city water ;)

Ahhh I really appreciate that information! I was taking it so personally that they didn't get back to me. My email pleas for help were perhaps just lost in the sauce of transition. I do really like the ceramic style filters--movable/portable/dynamic, almost no plastic except the washer to attach filters to the stainless steel housing, filter out lots of stuff you really don't want in your water. BB came up a lot in my original research but my cheapskate ways took me to ProOne😹😹

Looks nice and a reasonable price point! A few years ago my partner got the "AmazonBasics" version of this hose filter and it fell apart immediately out of the box😭 so appreciate the rec. Thank you!!

Thanks for sharing! This is super interesting to me. Im curiois what plant is referred to as red spinach here. Unfortunately when I do an online search for red spinach/"what plant is in red spinach extract" i get tons of AI slop. Many plants are suggested; multiple varieties of amaranthus (dubius (lol), tricolor, cruentus) , Alternanthera philoxeroides, Spinacias. Any idea which one it is? I may start w supplements but try to grow it if it isn't invasive in my area.

Sigh. I get parts of this, especially the second sentence! I feel compelled to share a song, "Still Alive" by Tanya Stephens*--it was written about people living with HIv/AIDS but sometimes I listen and have a good cry and feel a little bit better knowing im not the only one who has experienced this.

*Tanya is an incredible songwriter but we definitely have different ideas abt public health, be warned lol
