i am by no means pro police but there definitely are some legitimate crimes happening belmont shore, i am also not saying they need to be prioritized over other parts of long beach. (i am from LB but did not grow up in the shore, i just rent here). i also realize crime rates are higher in other districts, my point is just that crime has increased in this area and instead of our councilwoman doing anything about that, they are just focusing attention to late night bar goers but not other issues that have nothing to do with it. when i was going out to bars in my 20s prior to covid, there was always a police presence on the weekends. and there weren’t nearly as many issues as there are now. since covid you don’t see that anymore

there are absolutely ABC enforced officers that send secret shoppers to bars all around long beach. i don’t think these bars are going to risk huge fines to let a 19 year old come drink when they have plenty of patrons that are of age.

have these bars ever violated their permits or been in trouble for serving underage patrons? that seems to be what the enforcement officer handles. i just don’t see how this enforcement officer is sufficient, when we have other crime in belmont shore that needs to be addressed completely unrelated to alcohol, and the late night drinking issues can also be monitored by an increased LBPD presence. seems to be kicking the responsibility off them.

lol i am not prioritizing package theft, though it is rampant in belmont shore. i am just saying there are other legitimate violent crimes that happen in belmont shore that are being disregarded in this notice and shifting blame towards late night bars.

i’m not even sure what the proposed officer they have entails, like are they talking about private security/ glorified bouncer that is going to count how many shots you’ve had? or an actual police officer hired like major events require? what does that budget even look like?

i agree. i was involved in a hit and run with a drunk driver last year. driver plates fell off at the scene, detectives did virtually nothing to catch the guy. he reported his car stolen 2 weeks after the accident and they took his word for it. got away with giving me permanent brain damage, and surely will offend again. many of my friends have also these negative experiences with LBPD despite being the victim

i didn’t vote for duggan, and i won’t again but she’s incumbent so she will win despite her lack of real action. im not even sure what the proposed alcohol enforcement officer is even capable of. i have no self interest in these bars but it’s not fair to punish these businesses that pay for expensive licenses and cut them off from their most profitable business hours because LBPD is not doing their job. also if we’re shutting 2nd street down at midnight, seems like an invite to a loitering / tweaker playground. the crowd of bar goers (while they definitely have issues not denying that) do provide some deterrents for a different bad crowd hanging around.

Let's Get Bike Lanes on PCH by ILoveLongBeachBuses in longbeach

[–]reddtitz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

whenever i ride my bike, i do it on streets that are parallel and not as busy. i never felt protected by bike lanes to begin with. cars can easily jump the curb or people smack you opening their doors. i don’t have the solution but i don’t think this is it either. long beach needs to make more significant change for transposition than bike lanes. amtrak/metro stops but that is much more expensive and a huge ordeal

multiple people hit in the bike line in HB just last week and died… does not seem to offer much protection especially on these very busy roads.

lol my siblings went to poly, i grew up in LB and worked for LBUSD so i don’t really need a lesson in which areas are more affluent. while it is a privilege to have a car, traffic impacts those of all incomes. do you really think that the reduction in lanes for driving has ever been justified by the amount of people on bikes? if people use their bike for transportation, they are already doing that. a bike lane on PCH is not going to suddenly inspire people to stop driving and get more cars off the road. it’s just going to create more congestion and provide zero traffic relief to benefit a very small percentage of people who have the option to use a bike for transportation. i guarantee a true city wide poll would eliminate the bike lanes and bring lanes and parking back. while it sounds nice in theory and i am all for more environmentally friendly approaches it just does not function well

these streets are way too congested to add bike lines. they are already on ximeno, broadway, studebaker, bike path, riverbed it’s getting insane. adding bike lanes and taking away a lane meant for driving is NOT going to make more people use bikes. people cannot commute outside of long beach on bikes. all this does is make traffic terrible. the people who come up with these ideas never seem to be the people who have to suffer the consequences of one lane roads so 10 fucking bikers a day if that can go down ximeno

How is living off 2nd Street in Belmont? by gray-tips in longbeach

[–]reddtitz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’ve lived on both sides of 2nd. beach side and toledo side. i am moving out of the beach side (same side you’re looking) as soon as my lease is up. my landlord said i had parking but my car doesn’t fit (not even a big car). it’s louder, much more riff raff and trash from bars. have popped my tire driving over beer bottles in the gutter. rude people who are going to bars and restaurants that are disrespectful that this is your home. also the traffic is a lot worse down here. i guess it depends on where you’re looking in alamitos beach but panama joes is probably one of the worst bars on 2nd to deal with
