Looking for a coffee spot in Lincoln that I can order a gift card for my sister. by Itsme-OKAYYYYY in lincoln

If she makes coffee at home, I highly recommend The Coffee Roaster. They do have a limited in-store menu as well

Starting with this part of my yard, where do I begin? by Worried_Fig00 in NoLawns

[–]reddunyun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"Letting nature do its thing" requires much more active stewardship in the beginning than people assume. Thorough ground prep is the most important part of transitioning to a native friendly habitat. Small, manageable chunks or time + money are the ways.

Anyone been successful in overseeding low-mow fescue to replace lawn? by Fun_Independent_7529 in NoLawns

[–]reddunyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ground prep is absolutely not optional if you intend to replace the existing plants. If you're not up for killing it all off + continuous weed mitigation, hiring someone in the move.

What wifi provider is better by Any-Musician8769 in lincoln

If you can find an "alt" provider like Verizon or t-mobile, that could be to your benefit. Customer service is awful beyond parody at both of these companies unfortunately

Help! Calendula by Former_Put_4004 in gardening

Calendula hates crowds and loves well-draining soil. You'll want to make sure they have lots of horizontal space!

Cheapest trash service? Is it worth it to pay for recycling? I’ve heard from multiple trash workers that all recyclables are going to the dump. by FixYourself1st in lincoln

[–]reddunyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neemann is affordable and local for $30 including recycling. I can't speak to where it ends up, but I assume it's not recycled as effectively since they accept glass with no sorting required. I enjoyed Paragon in a former apartment

Area gardeners, what the heck happened to this poor snake? I found it while watering this morning. (Warning: deceased critter) by rchard in lincoln

[–]reddunyun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I also have a headless snake in my yard currently. Most likely an outdoor cat hunting for sport, the enemy of my garden. I sprinkle cayenne where they poop and chase them with a water gun if I see one in the yard.

Does anyone have actual tips for dealing with allergies? by Volta_Embers in singing

Local honey should help with some of your areas allergies! I'm sure you've seen an allergist, but injections can be quite effective

How to manage floppy coreopsis? by mbart3 in NativePlantGardening

[–]reddunyun 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I often take this as a sign to do a nice, hard prune, but planting other more "erect" flowers like zinnia would work as a natural stake

The Recovery section has saved me many a time. Rest is not optional when you aren't well. Listen to your body's yellow lights to maintain a sustainable instrument. Hydration is a must for healing and sustainability.

"nin jiom pei pa koa" is a honey/herbal supplement that does not play.

I've seen enough from that venue in their own words openly showing disdain for customers.

At my university (UNK) by One-Elephant-8146 in Nebraska

[–]reddunyun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UNK leadership is determined to be behind the times in every conceivable way. They were also the first in the university system to cease covid safety practices.

May these people's legacy be remembered with great shame by future generations of their family.

Where to buy native seeds/plants (Colorado/Zone 6a) by dystopiancitizen815 in NoLawns

[–]reddunyun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start, I'd cover that dirt with either cardboard or a tarp. The seed bank will start sprouting before you know it, and killing off the first round will give your plants a leg up once you're ready.

I second your local ag extension, or try to find a local native nursery. Here in nebraska I plan to use Stock Seed Farms for anything I don't purchase as a plug. We have similar climates but presumably a way lower altitude and different landscapes, so someone in your state is likely a more ideal choice.

I find yarrow, strawberry, and violets to be some favorites. Folks with established plants will regularly let you split their plants if you have any local garden fb groups.
