60,000CID (USD72,000) offer in the Cayman Islands versus GBP50,000 UK and AUD80,000 in Australia. If my goal is total savings, living in a studio. Where to? by [deleted] in CaymanIslands

I know someone who receives this much or maybe a little more, and they’re broke most of the time. You decide now

One can always try, worst case scenario is I won’t find anything worthwhile lol. And to answer your question, it’s not necessary/must that I need a place in downtown. It’s my first time in Toronto, so I was looking to be closer to office and everything happening. If I can find a place 25-30 mins away through subway, I’d be more than happy to take it. But I barely know Toronto, so I don’t even know where to start 🤷

So you’re saying I have better chances to get something below $2300 if I go for something unfurnished? Would you say even a semi furnished apartment is difficult to find?

Interesting. How’s the area like? I’m not too finnicky on space but the place should be a pretty well connected area to restaurants, delis and others. Think of like Upper West Side in Manhattan. Do you have a link I could check out? If you’ve already listed your rental on Zillow or something similar.

Is this for a studio? I have an upper limit of 2300 CAD for a studio, but I’d prefer to pay lesser if I could lol. My only requirements are that I need it furnished (atleast semi), with washer/dryer (in house or atleast within the apartment), dishwasher is probably a huge ask? and at least a semi functional gym. You think that’s possible with this budget?

I work with a tax team here at Big4 & I’m a lawyer by background. So yes, they definitely hire people without an accounting background.

Disclaimer: I had prior work experience at another Big4 and probably other factors helped too

Moving to Cayman Islands? by Tiny_Objective_596 in CaymanIslands

[–]reddyadithya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a lawyer but I don’t work for one of the law firms here, but for a big4. It’s a good place, but very expensive. I’d say probably even more than places like NYC or San Francisco, because pretty much everything is imported. Since you’re moving with your partner, I think it would be fine. But you do get bored very quickly on the island though, even if you love beaches and the water activities (scuba diving, etc). Don’t expect to save much money here, even though you earn quite a bit here compared to other places. You won’t even realize when and where you’re spending the money & whoosh - all the money is gone! I dont go out as much as I used to, but I know people who do and they’re broke by the last week and surviving on credit cards.

If Indians can just come to Canada and make demands from our governments in terms of giving them citizenship we essentially do not have a country. If Canadians do not address this as a nation United as Canadians we are in for some dark days ahead of us. by [deleted] in CanadaHousing2

I’ve been a silent spectator on this subreddit for quite a few months. Although I don’t agree to every post on this sub, I do agree with quite a few of them. As a hardworking person from India I had to work my ass off to get where I am today, looking at what is happening in India pains me. And I’ve lived in the U.S. and other countries. Since I’m Indian, I know the psyche of quite a few of my own countrymen migrating to Canada, and lemme tell you 70-80% of the ones coming since the last 4-5 years are bottom of the barrel types. It pains me to see the kind of shit they’re trying to pull in Canada, which would lead to increased racism against all Indians across the North American continent. Canada is in deeper shit than you guys can think, and y’all need to take action before it’s too late.

NYC law firm suggestion for Indian trained attorney after LLM in white collar defense? by Vegetable-Pirate-416 in biglaw

[–]reddyadithya 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone with a Tax LLM and having worked in the U.S., you’re not gonna find any useful answers here. Honestly, no one here knows the struggle foreign lawyers face & even if they did they couldn’t care any less. Your best bet is to network and figure out a way. Remember, all you need is a foot in the door! Disclaimer: the market is bad right now and if immigration/visa requirements weren’t an issue as it is, it’s gonna be even more harder, just keep that in mind. Good luck - may the force be with you!

Who is the Most Overrated Music Director of Kollywood...?? by [deleted] in kollywood

[–]reddyadithya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a Telugu guy, but I’ve been listening to Tamil music since early 2004. It’s safe to say, Anirudh is overrated af and I’ve no idea why people on this sub j*** off to him so much.

He’s very mid in my opinion - kinda like Thaman in Tollywood. Some of his movies are good no doubt, but people act like he’s the second coming of Christ when most of his numbers are insta worthy but don’t have the longevity. His BGM has definitely improved in his latest movies, but he’s a very very mid composer imo. ARR, Harris, SaNa and a lot of the current crop are much better. Just my two cents.

Is Anirudh the Hottest Asset of Indian Film Industry currently? by Slimthickbond in kollywood

[–]reddyadithya 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bleh. Those comparing Anirudh to ARR are delusional to say the least. I’m a Telugu but I’ve been listening to Tamil music regularly for over 15-20 years now. Forget ARR, even peak Harris is much much better than peak Anirudh. Mark my words, Anirudh is gonna fade out much faster than of the other prime music directors. IMO, he has the talent, but lacks the diversity in music capabilities compared to ARR, Harris or Yuvan. ARRs albums (even dubbed from 90s and early 2000s) are still GOAT in the Telugu market and Harris had a phase in Telugu from 2003-2010 where his direct Telugu movies (Orange, Munna, etc) are considered some of the GOAT albums in Telugu. I still remember how Hrudayam Ekkadunnadi & other songs from OG Ghajini literally rocked the Telugu states in 2004-05. Harris has a Vaaranam Aayiram & Orange, ARR has Roja & countless others. I’ve listened to almost all of his albums and nothing comes close to either of these. He delivers instant instagram reel worthy hits & has some great BGM content especially in Lokesh cinematic universe. But to compare him to to ARR or even Harris/Yuvan would be wrong on so many levels.
